Sounds like fun Gunny. Pity he didn't know about it before as he comes home on Wednesday and I don't think he'll have time to fit it in. If he texts again, I'll suggest it to him for Tuesday :)

How you keeping Gunny. Haven't seen you on otl for a while?

we are thinking of going to turkey next year, as we have never been before some suggestions as to the best places to go for would be great. THere will be me and my partner travelling along with our 2 daughters aged 9 and 6 also my mom and 8 year old nephew. We go all inclusive and tend to stay on the complex as much as possible, so we are looking for great entertainment.

Thanks any advice will be much appreciated :tup

it must be me but i dont understand why people travel all the way to turkey and then stay onthe complex and go all inc you could be any where in the world including this country if we had the weather my daughter went to the magic life complex and said if it wasnt for paying the 10 to enter turkey she wouldnt have known where she was once in the hotel.i much prefer going s/c and seeing the resort and surrounding areas as much as possible

i suppose each person is different, some people like the secruity, while others like to explore. i find that all inclusive is better for us, as we have already paid up front we do not have to worry about budgeting our money. i also have never fancied s/c and thats just the lazy person in me, im on hols i dont fancy cooking, washing up ect, and i wouldnt fancy budgeting for meals as knowing my little fam, by the second week we wouldnt have any money left for food :cheers
i have been to several countries and always gone outside hotel and had a look around, but find it easier staying within the hotel, where i feel that little bit safer and can relax that much more knowing its not to far to my bed after a little tipple :rofl .

we are off to a hotel on lara beach in sep and ive read that not much happens outside the hotel, you have to travel in to main resort, so maybe that might be an area to look at, ive never been to turkey before so cant tell you much more sorry.

the reasons for us staying on the complex are we have 3 kids travelling with us and it's sometimes easier to stay at the hotel, they enjoy the hotel entertainment and animation team, we do have a look round but trying to please 3 kids is sometimes more hard work.

we always go s/c or b&b in turkey as we like to be out and about exploring the place. It is so cheap to buy there.Yet when we go to spain or malta we half board/full board.we are b/b to Marmaris 14th aug cannot wait.http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/posting.php?mode=reply&f=28&t=109914#

Obviously everyone likes different things but would only ever choose to go s/c. I don't cook anything as we go out to eat but I like to be able to choose where to eat and what to do. To me being stuck in a hotel would be awful, I agree with nuttynet, you could be anywhere in the world if you don't go outside the complex. That is all the fun of going to new places, to go out and explore, see a bit of culture etc.

Maybe I am just a bit more adventurous, I love to look around and try new things and I don't need to be entertained, I can find my own entertainment. I don't find it a problem with two young children either, they are happy to go anywhere and do anything really, we go walking and jump on buses and in taxis and they love it much as we do.

Hi ashnaimee

Each to their own I suppose. It's interesting how everybody thinks their way to holiday is the 'correct' way.

My idea of a nightmare would be to drag a couple of little kids out each night looking for a different restaurant to eat in, I would feel selfish. Kids aren't into the ambience they just want fuel so that they can go back to what they really wish to be doing. Often you see parents who quite obvioulsly wish to make a night of it in a restuarant and you can see the kids are bored out of their brains after 2 hours of sitting there or worse still they are running round the restaurant getting on the other diners nerves whilst the couple finish their second bottle of wine turning a blind eye because they are trying to hoiliday how they did before kids.

Anyway tons of resturants in Turkey are full of Sky Sports, Kareoke, fry ups and roasts as that is what they think we want so unless you know an area really well you can become a bit unstuck.

Ashnaimee if you are looking for a very nice place to stay with children, you could do worse than go to Club Lykia World in Olu Deniz where I have just returned from. It has 17 swimming pools, endless kids clubs, it isn't AI it is Full Board Plus, which is breakfast, lunch, dinner and wine soft drinks and beer (larger beer not proper beer). No louts and very multicultural.

The food is out of this world and there were hundreds of happy families there, some people had been as many as 6 times, never got bored and rarely leave the complex.

It's also stunningly beautiful with wonderful sunsets. It's your two weeks a year you must work hard for them and should spend them how you wish.

Good Luck, Doe.

I never said I thought my way was the "correct" way.

We don't drag our kids around every night and they enjoy going to different places. We don't sit there for 2 hours drinking wine or trying to behave the same as before we had children, so they don't get bored or run around either, they are both well behaved at the table. Turkish familes always take their children out to dinner.

Also if you are a little adventurous you can find lots of decent traditional restaurants, which is where we like to eat.

If anyone prefers All inclusive then of course they should do it, I never said they shouldn't, I was just saying what I prefer - there is no "correct" way to have a holiday

Er. I was just trying to give ashmaimee a recommendation of where to go to have a good holiday with her kids which is what she came on to the thread for, she asked for a suitable AI type place and Lykia was my suggestion. :que it seems everyone who asks for this kind of recommendation gets a lecture on why they should go self-catering instead of an answer which is what I was trying to give. :que

OK, keep it friendly folks.

Sometimes the written word can be misconstrued, which is what I think has happened here. I don't think anyone meant to be offensive and I just think (hope) that some comments have been taken the wrong way.

Thank you Doe. That place sounds great I will certainly keep it in mind. Like you say everyone is different and the way I see it as long as I have the hot weather and great entertainment for the kids that is my idea of a holiday, but it most likely isn't the next person's ideal holiday. Thank you 4 your recommendation.
