Do nt raise your hopes too high.

The previous stamps were in operation for well over 20 years ! I know, cos when I first started coming to Egypt I had them ( still got the old passport ) !

How much does it equate to if you are paying in Sterling? Is it the same price for children?? Do they accept the new £20 notes? Thanks

About 8 quid. Yes. Yes.

Hi, I went to Sharm 3 years ago for the first time and got my visa from the embassy prior to going, was fed up with being ripped off for £15 each!!

I found that when I was there and visited Ras Mohamed (Outside Sinai) I was never asked to produce my passpport/visa.

So the question is will I ever be expected to produce the visa, in which case why bother having one, or are there random road side checks for visa's and I have just been lucky in the past?

I am aware that a visa is only required if travelling outside the sinai area, and Ras Mohamed is where we will be going for the day on a snorkelling trip.

Sorry I know this should have been posted in the visa section, couldn't see how to move it there.

Many thanks in advance

Steve

Whenever we have got visas i believe ours were £15 each or 12, cant remember. This year taking family to pyramids and luxor so it will be interesting what we get charged this time.

After Egypt, I intend to fly to New York. So I think the USA is much more strict on visas, even if your country is in the visa waiver program.

Thank goodness we read this report before we go to Sham in July. We are stopping at 'Coral Sea resort'. We probably won't be venturing out much, but would like to go on a glass bottom boat trip and to the water park. I take it a visa is not necessary for these excursions?
First timers to Egypt and don't want to fall for a con like new laws.
thanks

No Beth, you do not require a visa for the activities that you mention.

A follow up to my last post.

In Sharm airport last week (thurs), I was disgusted to once again see the big company reps, insisting that all their guests queued for and purchased a visa. This was despite the fact that I had talked to a fair few of the travellers on the plane and knew that they were just lazing on the beach for a week or two. I had told them not to buy visas, but of course, if they are first timers to Sinai, they are going to listen to "the voice of officialdom".
Out of a full Airbus 321, there were only three couples, including us, who went straight to passport control.

I do so wish there was a way to bring this malpractice by the tour reps, to the attention of someone who can do something about it. Somebody, somewhere is making a fat little earner out of this!

Hi. We are off to Sharm next Sunday, our first visit to Egypt. We intend lazing around the resort for the week so do not intend getting a visa (or being bullied into buying one by a TO rep)! I just wanted to make sure that all we have to do is just go through to passport control without joining the visas queue. Do we just tell the staff at passport control that we will only be staying on the Sinai Peninsular? Sorry if this seems such a numpty question!

Caz, when you are on the plane, you will be given a landing card to fill in with details of your name, passport and hotel address etc. On the back of this card, just write "SINAI ONLY" clearly and legibly. This is all you need to do before handing the card with your passport to the guy at passport control.

Ah, that sounds easy enough! Many thanks for the information.

Hi, just a quick question. We're going to sharm again in may for the second year in a row. Do we have to get the visa stamps again?

If you are only going to stay in Sharm, then you just need to put 'Sinai only' on the back of your card. I think they have a rubber stamp at the visa desk anyway. If you are going out of Sinai i.e. Cairo, Luxor you need to get the visa stamp put in so that you can travel.

Although I am sure if you don't get them at the airport and then change your mind about going on trips to cairo etc, an enterprising rep will bend over backwards to organise them for you in order to sell you the trip.

Have a great holiday. :cheers
