Once again I shall refer to the
WEATHER SITE posted by eddieriff. A site that I had never used before, but once verified with television and press information, has proved to be accurate.
I would imagine that when people are preparing to come on holiday, perhaps the most important aspect would be to find out what weather to expect. It is all well and good to post temperature figures, but these are not particularly helpful for an overall picture of what to expect, especially when the source is sometimes dubious.
It would be meaningless and slightly boring for me or anyone else to post a daily temperature report as there are plenty of sites, like the one above, which can offer that information accurately. But if it would be helpful, I shall post from time to time (or whenever asked) information that might be viewed as useful, observed by living here.
These observations are generally based near my home, (which is a driving distance of 90 kilometres from Benidorm, but in real terms is approximately 60 kilometres south, and usually therefore, a degree or so warmer), but it might also be worth mentioning that I do tend to travel up and down the coast quite regularly.
This year by comparison has been quite disappointing. There has been no hurry to get to the beaches early in the morning, as for the most part, the weather has not warmed up until after 10.30am, and sometimes even later. There has been a slight (and very welcome!) rise in daytime temperatures in May, and from late morning to mid afternoon we have seen a peak of around 24 degrees centigrade. Unfortunately, there has also been a slight, but persistent colder breeze, which has rather taken the edge off things.
Most days in May it has been pleasant enough to sit in the sun outside a bar during the early afternoon for a drink, but only the hardiest of tourists would want to sit outside in the evenings to eat or drink. That is not to say that I have not seen a few oddities, but there again, I have also seen tourists in the sea, as well as walking around in little more that swim suits, in January and February!
For many years I can remember sitting on the terrace of my local bar watching Champions League football games, this year the bar has not even bothered setting up a T.V. outside.
The sea is cold! I would suggest that anyone over the age of 8, or who does not originate from Scandinavia, would not enjoy it much. The evenings are cool. Once acclimatized, I cannot see anyone sensibly wanting to go out without some light, warm clothing.
So, to sum up. If you are coming over in the near future to stay in a hotel with a heated and sheltered pool, there should be no reason to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a sun bed. But you should enjoy a few hours of sun from late morning to mid afternoon. You should be able to sit outside of bars during the day, but take some warmer clothes for the nighttimes.
