There is a tremendous thunderstorm at the moment, lighting torrential rain the lot. They still reckon the monsoon is being delayed for another 3/4 days.

Gemma - that's what we do - 6 months in Goa then back to sunny Spain for the summer - then a holiday somewhere else hot before it's back to Goa for the winter.
Have a nice summer in Spain (or somewhere else nice). We are off to Croatia in 2 weeks then Turkey in August.
It's been raining virtualy all day today and they still say the Monsoon is another 3 days away. One advantage it's nice and cool at the moment.
Don't konw about the Monsoon here but, i just got a phone call from my mother saying that the area in Brum where i'm from is flooded.Think i'll stay and enjoy the rain here.
I said today, i don't think it rains in the monsoon as it has over the past few days here!!
Well, the last 24 hours has been wild to say the least.Heavy rains and cyclonic winds. We sitting in a bar by the beach yesterday and the wind was incredible.Tiles flying off roof's massive bar signs lying everywhere amazed no one was killed.
Sounds horrific ... and when I think of all those poor slum people, its so sad. It must be even worse for them during the monsoon period.

Will stick with Croatia and Turkey this smmer, thanks very much!!! and look forward to returning to Goa in November
The weather has calmed down today, but it was a pretty wild weekend. Strong winds, very heavy rain. Lots of trees and power lines down. Some areas have had no power for a couple of days now. Coco beach has disappeared, but the River Princess is still there!
The power situation today is ok.but during the previous 48 hours i think we only had power for about 3 hours.Thank god i bought an invertor a month ago.
Think the monsoon has definitely arrived here in South Yorks ! I live in Rotherham which is currently underwater after yesterdays rain. We had no power for most of yesterday; no phones and lots of RAF helicopters airlifting people to safety. Schools are closed and we are currently waiting to see if the nearby Ulley dam is going to burst ! think Goa has got off fairly lightly !
Last year the monsoons made an awful mess of some of the beaches up north, does any one who is out there know if the monsoons this year are making the same mess as last year
It is hard to be sure, as the tides are so much higher during the monsoon that most of the beaches dispappear for a while, but some are unlikely to reappear in all their glory. Coco beach has been especially badly damaged, and there is little or no beach to speak of in front of the Taj hotels at Sinquerim. Calangute and Baga seem ok so far.
Phil, any news on the beaches further north, Mandrem, Ashwen etc?
Sorry, not been up that way for a while, but these beaches are much wider so are usually OK. I certianly haven't seen any reports of any damage, except from Keri.
Ive heard the monsoon is lasting till november now, can anyone tell me if it would be nice in october?will places be open?
Most of the restaurants will be open in October but often the Shacks do not go up until the end of October or beginning of November.
The shacks in the South last year were still being built on 14th November.
It is really nice & green in October.
Last year we had 2 days when it rained a little in the evenings / night but not monsoon rain.
Hi just read about the shacks still being built in the South on the 14th! We arrive just south of Benaulim on 10th Nov, will any shacks be up and running at this time??
