As always I'd be away tomorrow if only I could afford it this year
We will avoid the weekend of March 21st as it was utter chaos in the hotel over that weekend.
I'd already booked when I saw your warning Jay Trip. However, I've been out there at other times when the locals were on holiday and rather enjoyed it as you get to have so many more interesting conversations with actual Tunisians and lots of hugs and kisses from their adorable children.
Even Tunisian guests who were there when they arrived were also shocked.
We were told that the extra guests were workers on a subsidised holiday from their work place.
I met a friend at the airport who had been to the Rui hotel in Hammamet and the same thing happened there.
It only affected the AI larger hotels and if we get to return we will probably go HB.
were off to PEK in may. would not miss it i love it there
Aslemma,Do you know if the tour operators will be taking bookings again for March.
I've just had a look for you on the Thomas Cook site, putting in 13th March from Gatwick, and they've come up with prices so it looks as though they are taking bookings. I've had my BA flight booked for the past couple of months, also my hotel with Travel Republic, and BA are certainly still flying. There are rumours and counter-rumours on all the websites discussing the problem. FO advice is still only to avoid unnecessary travel up until 27th February and I think the tour operators have been playing a waiting game.
Incidentally, I doubt there will be many Tunisians on subsidised holidays from their work places this year, whenever you go.
I dont really have an issue of people having subsidised holidays as they will probably have paid into the scheme through their work.
It was their behaviour that shocked me and other guests, including Tunisians.
The waiters and entertainment team were having discussions as to who could take that weekend off as they said they dreaded it.
Even some of the lovely staff were telling us to avoid this bank holiday weekend.
Perhaps if we want to continue we had better retire to gossip corner or we'll get our wrists slapped.
Im still looking forward to going back on 2nd October,it will be our 8th visit, love Tunisia.
I am going to at least one and maybe, two weddings in September. If the funds would stretch I would get the first flight out, but that's unlikely to happen this year.
I knew you wouldn't be able stay away dorra and by the autumn things should have settled down.
We had our first holiday to Tunisia beginning of December and loved it, we will hopefully be returning in November and hopefully a bit warmer.
Yes Aslemma,we missed each other the last time we went,we are staying in Port el Kantoui at the Royal Kenz again.SPOTTISWOODE we have been many times in November, evenings are cold and needed a jacket, but daytime has been lovely, sunny and warm between 11 and 3pm.
Going Back for 2 weeks in July with other members of the family and Just the 2 of us in September
Marhaba Palace PEK in May - yippee!
Sorry forgot to say 4th timer, just came back 10 Jan (not evacuated, no idea of any troubles)!
Watch it Anne or you may become addicted to the place. I've been going out there for 11 years now, usually twice a year, so the locals say I'm almost a native.
