I would say don't leave it until your holiday to sort things out as you may end up in a worse predicament then normal.
For years I suffered from heavy periods and nothing worked (no fibroids either!) Tablet medication had no effect and the Mirena coil meant that I bled for about 2 weeks out of every three and having given it the suggested 6 months to settle had it taken out. Ended up with Endometrial Ablation and have never looked back.
Just don't assume that medication will be the answer only to find that it just causes you to bleed for longer. Having been there IMO i would rather have a shorter heavier burst than have it last for the best part of the holiday. Try before you go and make sure it is right for you.

brilliant! I took it on holiday to Croatia and had no problems at all.
It's made of a sort of flexible latex/rubber like material and is roughly the size of an eggcup (just the the part you put the egg in). You don't feel it inside you at all, and I'm apt to forget I'm using it!
Everyone's reaction is usually yuk, but it isn't yukky at all.
One of the best buys I've ever made, and I won't have to buy tampons or pads ever again - can't be bad.

Probably going slightly off topic so I'll make it short. Have any of you ladies who have the mirena coil fitted noticed any significant weight gain which can't be shifted however hard you try, or is it just an age thing?
I had the Mirena coil fitted when I was 34. Due to medical reasons I was unable to continue with the pill and this was the only option other than sterilisation for me or the snip for the husband, something neither of us wanted. I have just turned 48 and have noticed over the last six months or so my body shape is changing. I am not actually putting on extra weight it just seems to me moving to other places I have never been a big person, at 5' 11 I have always been size 12, I do feel like I am bigger around the trunk these days. So for me personally I am putting it down to age
Don't know about you but I think this coil is brill, not seen any sign of periods since having it fitted, BLISS
Hi Jackie I too am 48 and this year for the first time I have what used to be called "midriff bulge". It doesn't matter how much I try to cut back on food I just can't shift it. I would much rather have this though, than remove the coil. I get no pmt and only an occasional scant period - mostly when I'm stressed
In past year 18months have been on holiday 6 times EACH and EVERYTIME my dear friend comes with me as ive said it be on time comes either late early and puts a mark on my holiday, this year im not going to risk it i have my no flow pills ready to take!
