Golden Sands itself was a great place, lots to do. Getting the little train around the resort is a good place to start to get used to where your going. there is a Casino, which was fun, lots of bars and nightclubs, and places to eat. the beach was lovely too, can get crowded though.

The resort of Golden Sands is a lovely place and there is a lot to do, you never go bored with jet skiing, windsurfing and boat trips, there is also lots for children to do, horse/donkey rides, bouncy castles and little fairground type rides. There are also lots of bars and resteraunts to dine in and the prices are very satisfactory. I would reccomend Golden Sands to anyone thinking about visiting Bulgaria.

Since 2004 when I first discovered the Golden Sands holiday resort, I have kept going back time and time again. I think it is one of the nicest places that I have ever visited. Reasonable prices for a holiday resort, great beach, no shortage of entertainment to suit all tastes. Excellent variety of dining places for anything from tea or coffee refreshments to light snacks to full meals. Golden Sands is also half way from Varna to Albena, so take a day off to visit Albena. Also allow plenty of time to visit Varna, beautiful Varna.

First time to Golden Sands, well impressed, everyone was very friendly we had no one dragging us in the restaurants, bars etc we were asked but a polite no thanks was sufficient.
Loads of girls giving out flyers to try and fill the clubs up but again a polite no thanks was sufficient, we found a great little watering hole just down the middle of party street where you got 2 large beers for 3 lev (Wind Bar).
The resort itself was quiet and not everywhere open the weather was not very good at all which spoiled it from being a perfect break, we ate at different places and the food we had was great, from 3 leva for a pizza upto 16 lev for a mixed grill.
Watched proper Bulgarian folk dancers which was great (don't tap glasses with them if you don't want to get up with them) had me up drinking red wine the quickest then doing what I think was A Cossack dance then the hat swapping with the dancers, my wife thought it was hilarious and couldn't take a photo for laughing.
Got some great deals from the shops. Me and the wife walked up and down constantly and thoroughly enjoyed it but a word of warning on our last day my wife stayed at the hotel to pack the cases and went down the street to watch Liverpool in the cup and when walking past a open bar opposite Muppets karaoke was approached by a prostitute (I had noticed a lot of single girls at this place but didn't think nothing of it till then) Again a polite no thanks was sufficient (thank God).
When speaking to a local when watching the match was told that is where they hang out and will approach single males, it is legal in Bulgaria so be warned. Would definitely go again but when it as warmed up.

The resort itself can cater for everyone, we went in may and some of the attractinons had not fully opened ie the Aquapark, this is a good resort for anyone who is on a budget.

not alot to do unless you like looking round their little market or sunbathing or swimming. no sight seeing to be done, but resort and public toilets spotless. a little lady sits outside every convienience knitting charges you a few pence cleans toilet before and after use. this goes for restaraunts also so keep a little change handy because no change no wee. i have never been anywhere were every public toilet was okay to use. food/drink/shopping very very cheap so try not to book all inc as you can eat out for next to nothing. locals exremely friendly, and very willing to help.

Golden Sands is a resort of mainly hotels interspersed with a few apartment blocks. The north end of the resort is better laid out and seems more upmarket. The beach cannot be faulted and is adorned with umberellas and loungers that are set in neat rows which add a nice touch. Street sellers approach you but a smile and a NO are accepted. The people are friendly and the area is clean and free of grafiti. Golden Sands and the Black Sea are a well kept secret from the majority but it is easy to see why people who have been once keep returning.

The road was swept and washed, then swept again daily. There was only the mini train and no cars allowed on it so it was also very safe. Did not see a dirty loo once. The resort is built on the seafront of a beatuiful nature reserve, so it is very green and cooling.
We fell into a kind of inbetween age - too old for nightclubs (there seemed to be plenty - especially on "party street" which we never made it to) and too young for Tom Jones impersonators (plenty also). But there were plenty of music bars, dancing, people watching, street entertainers to keep us occupied. Also, while you got encouraged to come into bars/restaurants you never felt hassled or unsafe in any other way.
The beach was 1st class. The Black Sea has a very low salt content, so it was like swimming in fresh water - hence no showers on the beach!
There were also lots of organised tours to take. We did Balchik and Kaliakra Cape which were great & only a half day. Lonely Planet gave details of ruins of a monastery built into the rocks, where you could walk down through the nature reserve which surrounds the resort - it sounded good, but we got lost twice in the woods, so I wouldn't advise this unless you aranged a taxi to come & save you!
Overall, very clean, lots too do without being too big or tacky, people everywhere friendly - and excellent value to eat & drink!

Ladies of the night patrol the streets not suitable for children at night .
Rubbish everywhere .Harrassed by waiters, club promoters and ignorant locals, we felt intrusive not on holiday .
The city of Varna is the opposite, nice people clean and welcoming .
My advice go to the big places, not sunny beach or golden sands until they get their act together.
