we have stayed in paphos before and we like it for its history & scenery rather than beaches etc. the harbour area is very picturesque & the castle is worth a visit as are the the ruins & mosaics near the harbour, the tombs of the kings are interesting & the coastal road to limasol has some spectacular views especialy of aphrodites rock. the ancient city of kourion lies not far away and is still being excavated,so there is plenty to see if you interested in history etc

Great resort, facilities to cater for all ages, however....
If you are planning to eat a lot of fish dishes i would recommend getting a local taxi to an 'out of town ' fish restaurant. Being a huge seafood lover, I made the mistake of eating at one of the fish restaurants next to Paphos harbour.
The final bill came to £75 Cypriot pounds !!!!
The meal was... 4 Tiger Prawns, 2 Red snapper fish , a bowl of salad and a bottle of white wine ( wine was only £6.50 Cypriot pounds).
Having eaten in Latchi the day before- the fish was much fresher, and the meal was half the price. On the way to the restaurant at the Harbour, the taxi driver had suggested an out of town fish restaurant, advising that the restaurants next to the harbour don't serve fresh fish and are very expensive.
We decided to try for ourselves and were left with a hefty bill for a meal that was sold to us on the pretences the fish was fresh , and were left hugely disappointed. Seafood Lovers..... please take the taxi drivers advice when asking about good seafood restaurants !
The restaurant that we were left hugely disappointed with was Theo's, I expressed my cause for concern politely ( after I had noticed that they were charging us £32 Cypriot pounds for the 2 red snappers alone, and them being on the menu for £7 Cypriot pounds!! Cheeky )The waiter replied that it was catch of the day and that being the reason they were so expensive.
The bill arrived £15 Cypriot pounds lighter but even with that knocked off the experience was enough to leave us hugely disappointed on out final evening. So please take my advice, I wouldn't recommend any fish restaurants (especially Theo's) at Paphos harbour.

Resort was very tidy, plenty of bars in bar street with loud music and also plenty of restaurants.
Drinks very pricy about same price as back home some even more expensive. Sea front restaurants and bars had cheap beer though £1 per pint.
Harbour is very nice. On the downside Paphos has got the timeshare touts which reside mainly on the walkway to the harbour and constantly pester you, they also pull you up as they are riding down the streets.
New large market opened up just behind the main seafront road - it is just like ASDA and very cheap so no need to bring your suntan creams, shampoos etc. I marked the beach standards as a 1 because there was no beach where we were located, but there was one just off the tomb of the kings road.
Would recommend Big Mammas restaurant if you like very large portions and Moulias fish restaurants.

The resort was very clean and pleasant. Plenty of bars, resturants, historic sites to visit. Loads of shops, the assistants can be a bit of a pain. Watch out for people with scratch cards, they are very persistant and they are selling time share. Best just to ignore them completely. The harbour is very pretty and the old town worth a visit. Didnt think much of the aquarium. Not the best beach I have seen.

Paphos - again I know the area well. Now I've introduced my wife and family and they like it as much as I do. My step-daughter really liked the Pelican and the ice-creams in the fantastic kiosks at Paphos Harbour. We hired a jeep and went off into The Troodos mountains. You have got to go there. Beautiful scenery, lovely hotels and a climate warm but fresh. Beautiful drive up, winding roads but no sudden drops like there is in Kefalonia. My wife was suitably impressed and managed to keep her eyes open! Standard of road system very good. Main motorway from Paphos to Nicosia is like a good British dual carriageway. Speed limit is 55 mph and there are lots of traffic police about and many cameras but there is no need to dash about as the scenery is spectacular!

The hotel and its surroundings were kept very clean and tidy at all times. The town of Paphos is a lively, jostling and exciting place to be. I was surprised at how it had changed since the days I lived in Cyprus during the 70's.
Local beaches, especially around Coral Bay were good.
Paphos, in fact Cyprus, is a place I recommend to all.

great nightlife in paphos strip,6 young lads. shame about the trouble the locals were causing with us. they got extra people with them aswell from all over. the police arrived and none of them were spoken to or charged, we just got told to go home for our own safety. while a bar manager was smooth talking the manager. luckily we made friends with the workers over there so were secure enough to enjoy ourselves

a lovely picturesque place to visit, everything was easy accessible, either it be by hiring a car, going on the bus or having a stroll.

The beach and sea swimming oppportunites were not as obvious as I had first thought. The beach is a area that steeply shelves to a reasonable rock pool area for basking in but for the more enthusiastic sea swimmer its a scramble over some rocks. I would recommend taking a left through the grounds to the next bit of the beach where this what is termed as a "floating pier" is which is a walkway made of floats with rope rails and steps into the sea. Not only is it fun just to negotiate, it is aptly placed to be in on the waves yet not swept away by them..hence on windier days they close it off.
Had not ventured much into the resort as the hotel had so much there and we had hired a car for a day to travel further afield. HOwever it seems that it has developed somewhat from its fishing village origins, there is clearly development work going on and the emergence of British stores and bars could mean it may "blackpoolize" in time which depending on your tastes may not be a bad thing?
I may be tempted to see another part of the island when I return to Cyprus.
