Take a torch for night-time. Returning to the hotel at night is dangerous.

Get a ground room floor as it will help as there are no lifts to the other floors so it can be a bit of a walk with a pram.
Make sure on the strip you visit the Meze restaurant with the funny symbols in the name. It is one of the best Meze places in Protaras. Also Molti was a great restaurant to stay in.

The resort was really clean, the first week lots was open as it was half term, but second week nearly everything shut down. Visit the Blue Spice across the road from hotel it is lovely.
Entertainment, we stayed around the hotel mostly so didnt visit any, but we could hear it around us well into early hours of the morning.
Beach looked good, but once again didnt visit it as sunbeds were packed away start of November. Yes we would visit this resort again.

The best beach by far is the Yianna Marie beach in front of the Golden Star, it has clear blue waters clean sand and all facilities you could need. The restaraunts on the main street are not up to much, corner restaraunt and diva are highly over priced and not good service, the standard has dropped. I would recommend the Yianna Marie just of the main street, good selection with great prices.

Before we went to Pernera we had never been to Cyprus and it was an amazing holiday! The Cypriot people are lovely and extremely friendly (they even wished us a safe flight home) and the food was out of this world. Restaurants that I would recommend would be The Blue Spice Bar, Noufaro and Chopsticks the local Chinese. However, the best place of all was The Polyxenia Restaurant and kiosk across from our apartments. They held a Greek night on a Friday night and the staff were very friendly. Especially a certain Young guy that was dreamy and Estonian! If you read this contact me on erintodd1990@hotmail.com I am the girl that danced on the chair on the Greek night and came for cocktails to the Kiosk. The shops were also very good especially a jewellery shop called Infinity in Protaras. Girls will love it! All in all the resort is a great palce to spend a brilliant holiday!

IT WAS GREAT!! the beaches were beautiful and had great watersports. It had lots of fabulously cheap booze in the bars near the hotel so you could just about make it back to the hotel in one piece after a night out! The locals were very friendly and i would definately recomend this resort. Im going back next year so I obviously liked it!

Resort ideal for a family holiday.Plenty of choice of barsand restaurants, some themed. Not over commercialsed still possible to find some more traditional tavernas.Something vor everyone.
Promises overlooking the fountain near fig tree bay offered good selection of food, and staff very friendly and welcoming.
Mini-cruise to Egypt offered good value for money. If booked in resort, half price of tour operator. £300 for a family of four. Well worth it for visit to pramids and Egyptian museum, only drawback guide desperate for comission on sales at factory, expect to pay over price elsewhere.

A couple we met had been to the Caribbean earlier this year and as they sat with us by the pool they looked out at the golden sands and the blue sea and said why did we pay all that money when we could have come here.
Families or couples old or young cant go wrong with Protaras.

Protaras is wonderful!!! It is full of things to do. It has bars, restaurants and brilliant water sports. The beach is so clean and picturesque. I am visiting again because it is just such a lovely area with very nice welcoming people.

I have been on holiday to Protaras twice now.(both times with my boyfriend). Once in August 2004 then again in October 2005. August was better for nightlife being in our 20's. But then October was nice as it was a bit more relaxing. If you want livlier nightlife then head to Ayia Napa by bus or taxi. Its lovely in Protaras as it is not rowdy but theres enough to do at night...its nice for families as well as couples (young or old). There is a very safe feeling about the place.
Night time entertainment is mostly based around karoke, hypnotists, tribute acts and fun pubs. There are two clubs that are open til the early hours. But if you wanted something else theres the dancing waters show, or maybe a nice stroll along the beach, mini golf and rides for the kids.
Theres plenty of nice restaurants if you want to eat out. Most do a mixture of local and international food and also a childrens menu so everyone is catered for. We have never had one bad meal in protaras and have always been looked after well by the waiters who are friendly and helpful. I would recommend Promises and Oscars. A good one for families who like an early meal is porkys...it doesnt look as nice as some of the others but the food is nice and they do great ice creams. I think they have a bouncy castle too. Great value for money.
Our favourite bar is probably ripples accross from the egyptian bar. We made friends with the people who own it and they remembered us when we went back over a year later! They are really nice people. Another good one for a dance if you want one without going to ayia napa is ghetto bar. Although the woman DJ is a bit annoying when she sings every other song! Some nights she dont sing at all! Thats great!
A lot of people on here mention elvis...its not as bad as it sounds...he mostly comes down the street in a car then runs into Bells bar and starts singing and the crowd in there goes mad! But you can get away from it if you dont like it. A nice place to go is Eden square to watch the entertainment. There was a realy good cypriot singer on one night in October we stayed there about 3 hours he was that good he sang lots of the best english songs old and new. There was also a magician type show and some dancers. The cocktails from the bar are lovely. I managed 4 pina coladas! yum!
In the day if you dont want to be by the beautiful beaches or pool then theres plenty of trips. We did the jeep safari to the troodos mountains! A great experience - youll be scared to death but glad you went to see some real cyprus! May be a bit too scary or a long day for small kids.
We also hired a harley type bike and ventured out the resort. We went to ayia napa where we got a glass bottom boat trip for 2CYP- bargain! Also went to famagusta view point and mini zoo (dont think the animals are neglected like i did they have actually been rescued and being looked after-oops!), protaras aquarium - a little expensive. Then we also found some small little beaches and unspoilt places which were nice to see. If you go self catering and eat in there was a big supermarket but i cannot remember where it was!
One last thing...the beaches! They are truly amazing! (im talking about flamingo beach and fig tree bay -both in the heart of protaras). Clean crystal blue sea, silky soft sand and plenty of watersports!
I am struggling to find another holiday destination to try this year as i dont think anywhere will compare to protaras! Hope this has helped! any questions email me on loranloranloran@hotmail.com

Protaras is a purpose built resort. It is not overly pretty and has a one way traffic system (which most of the locals ignore). We stayed near the lower end of Protaras. Protaras has a McDonalds and a Pizza Hut and a Southern Fried Chicken place, along with some theme bars. We frequented the Friends bar, which serves nice drinks, basic English food and shows non-stop DVD's of Friends. (It was a bit cold when we were there in October, so it was nice to sit in a bar and watch Friends of an evening).
Nicolas Taverna must be visited. The food is authentic Cypriot food and cooked in a traditional clay oven. The lamb and chicken dishes are superb. The potatoes are lovely, really sweet. We were given free salad and drinks when we visited there.
There are a couple of nightclubs which we did not go to. There are loads of shops/supermarkets selling gifts, food, papers, clothes and souvenirs. There are lots of opticians there as well. Protaras is one long strip, and it extends into the next area of Pernera which has a lot more shows and more beaches.
You can easily hire a car, or book day trips.
The water/fire show is fantastic and must be seen. It is near McDonalds (You can't miss the golden arches).
Also the little church is worth a visit. Its up a lot of steps but the view is great when you get up there.
