Beaches

Beaches are quite small and are shingle rather than sand.

The resort is a lovely place to visit, I would without a doubt go again. The trips are very good and organised, the people are very friendly and willing to help.
The resort was clean enough, the roads are very busy and crossing them does take a bit of time and alot of judgement, the star beach was an eye opener, lots of young people listening to loud music and lots of posing, very good.
The sunbeds at the beach are 50 euros with a brolley its 5.00 euros. well worth it, the slides are 8 euros for all day.
The places in the town to eat and drink are very nice. I would definately go back.

Hersonisos itself is a nice, relaxed resort. Plenty of bars/restaurants and discos but it never appeared rowdy.
The breach next to the hotel is shingle( niot the best) but sand in Hersonisos.
This hotel is definitely for people wanting a laid back holiday.

As with most All Inclusive Hotels it was situated around 15 minues bus ride away from Hersonissoss. However the hotel had a bus service that took you into Hersonissoss for 1 Euro per person.
The resort its self had a few bars which were lively on an evening and a number of supermarkets and gift shops.

Bit disappointed with resort.
The beaches were tiny and every inch of them was taken up by sunbeds which had to be paid for each day. No room to lay your towel down or for kids to play on beach. Sand was dark and felt more like grit. Wasnt very good access to beach you had to walk through hotels and appartments to find a way on to it. It all seemed very built up around edge of beach. You had to keep your eyes open all the time for motorbike and four wheel bikes they were everywhere.
The shops were nice, even had 1.50euro shops (equivalent to our £1 shops) to get all your gifts and soveniers from. Plenty of bars and restaurants. And over run by car rental shops.
Would go there again because hotel we stayed in was very nice, we mainly stayed around hotel only going into resort to look at shops.

Star Beach is definitely for the young but if you get there early it is a lot emptier until the afternoon and you can get on the things much easier. Water slides, karting, a gym etc makes it good fun but it does get absolutely heaving as the day wears on. It is a fun place even if not in the ‘first flush’ and we all enjoyed the amenities and the daytime atmosphere.
Open Air Museum of Cretan Life is by Star Beach and well worth a visit.
Hersonissos is busy and noisy. Ok to shop in during the day but not very nice at night (for us anyway). We saw girls fighting, people falling over in the road drunk, and bouncers everywhere. Even uniformed security at the McDonalds.
McDonalds in Hersonissos is something to be missed. Burgers are acceptable, trays dirty, drinks disgusting, food left about so flies were everywhere, pavement by seats outside so dirty your feet stuck to the ground, toilets that matched the worse public ones.
Boat trips are relatively cheap and nice but watch out for the wind as if it gets up the trip can be a lesson in keeping your breakfast down.
Heraklion is worth a visit with a number of museums, Venetian Fort, Churches etc. If you are expecting it to be like Rhodes Old Town you will be disappointed though.
Anissaras public beach outside the Captains Restaurant is clean and well looked after. Two sunbeds and an umbrella are 6 euros.
Just near Captains is the Greek Taverna. Very friendly and nice food in nice gardens.
Supermarket Mike is behind Captains and a lot cheaper than some right on the beach front.
A 'Happy Train' runs from the beach area up into the hills and takes about an hour. A nice little trip and you get some nice views.

If you go to this resort, make sure you take the time to find 'Old Hersonnissos', Koutouloufari, and Piskopiano these villages are by far the best of anywhere in Greece.
Beaches at Annalipsi are fantastically clean with every amenity, beware of the Quads they are everywhere.
Make sure you visit the Traditional Greek Taverna on the front its TOPS for beer and food.

Hersonnissis is a nice place. Locals are a bit miserable especially the taxi drivers. Restaurants in town reasonable and friendly. Would go back to mainland Greece instead next time.
