Most rooms have pool views.
Visit Taverna Odas in the old town and The House on the main strip is brilliant for any time of the day.

The best rooms to stay are typically the ones that are located nearer the strip. Like Nefeli for example. It was 2 minutes from the night life but when you wanted to recover it was also out of the way, sharing a personal swimming pool with neighbouring ho

The resort was mainly for young, lively partyers. But it had something for everyone.

Malia is an English resort with all the poor taste of young English teenagers, plus is not cheap. However besides the pubs, take aways and clubs, the area still has lovely beaches not so far away from the main street, and conserve an old town up a hill that is very pintoresque. The locals love and hate tourist, and sometimes came across as greedy. In the very positive side the old town has great restaurants.

The resort has obviously never been sued because of an accident, because the pavements and obstructions are rife, and an accident waiting to happen. Very unkempt and in need of repair everywhere, perhaps they do this in the winter? Beach strewn with debris and no attempt to clear it up by anyone. Because of the lateness of our visit - no entertainment was available - this did not matter to us, but may to others.
Dont think that you will be safe on a zebra crossing because the local drivers take no notice!

I would only visit Crete again with a gang of lads. I dont think its the place to go for couples unless you are a couple who likes clubbing together. Malia is built for the Brits. Wall to wall clubs and bars. Most were closed when we went but i can imagine it is like a war zone at 6am after a night of heavy boozing.

Malia is gr8 but we went in the last week of the season and the whole place was closed which we expected. Go to stallis next door which has a lot of bars and restaurants open.

Malia was a long strip of lively bars and nightclubs. The highlights for me were the Gatecrasher night at Candys, and the Foam Party at the castle club (or similar name).
Just as in many med resorts, the PRs were out in force in front of the bars trying to get people in. Offers were typically 4 spirits + mixers, or 2 bottled beers for 5 euros per person. Anything from none to three shots per person would also be given on top.
The atmosphere was great. Not a hint of trouble all week.
The beach was narrow and covered in populated sunloungers. Not for anyone who seeks a peaceful shoreside stroll. Also beware when walking into the sea. Underfoot it changes from sand to jagged rock very quickly. Just set back from the beach was "Pleasure Beach" - a collection of a bar, sunloungers, pool and a very loud music system blasting out music all day. Ideal for the Club 18-30 or 2wentys people.
The resort, while not perfectly clean, was in pretty good shape. I've seen resorts before now that have been utter dumps. Malia scrubs up pretty well, although one bar rep who was there for a short stint said she hated all the neon lights.
It was lively and friendly, if a little expensive (the poor exchange rate again) but I would be willing to go back one day.

Malia however was very clean. If you want a very lively holiday and you are a party animal then go to Malia, if not then dont go there

bikini beach - feel like sardines in a tin, very busy full and squashed! the other beach was much better!
pubs and clubs are good but can be quite dear, they pour vodka in glass at same time as lemonade so you think you are getting alot when your not! haggle with reps outside pubs to get best deals and even though they offer free fish bowls - they are like what u'd have ur cereal in!! tiny!

We stayed in Malia and i have to say it definatley is for younger people. We went at the end of September 2008 so it was pretty much the end of season but it was still reasonably busy. Would definatly reccomend Malia to all my friends and we are definatley going back next year for 2 weeks.
