The best Villa in Maroulas Village. River beach is a great place for sunset and to eat fish.

Our hotel was outside of Rethymnon in Adelianos Kampos. An ugly road really and very busy.Did have a good array of shops and bars which were friendly.Bus stops outside hotel that takes you into Rethymnon, takes about 30 mins.Buy ticket before you get on bus at shop opposite hotel..

Although the Appolon apart/hotel was a lovely place to stay the resort was dusty and noisy (traffic) and not very pleasing on the eye. We hired a car and travelled very easily to the south of the island and I would recommend this. Here after seeing some breathtaking scenery on our journey we found (in less than an hours drive) beautiful bays and wonderful taverners with amazing views.

didn't go into the village much, but it appeared to have all the facilities anyone would need. (clubs, bars etc)

Not really a resort as such so can't comment on entertainment (unless you call looking in a few shops entertainment!)It seemed clean.Beach great outside hotel but gets more rocky the more you go away from it.

We stayed at the Theartermis Palace Hotel 25 min walk from the centre of Rethymnon. The old town and harbour are full of restaurants and bars which provided a brilliant atmosphere at night. Seek out the traditional tavernas situated up the alleys in the old town, very reasonably priced and quite idyllic!
Day time can be spent on the long sandy beach, shopping in the various jewellery. leather and olive related shops, visiting the Fortezza or just having a cold beer overlooking the harbour.
There are limited boat trips available and I would recommend the Yellow Train excursions which are very reasonably priced at 15 euros.
Overall the town is suitable for families or younger people as there are ample bars, restaurants and a few clubs.

The resort is very special. It has very low key nightclub scene, with the bars mainly attached to tavernas and cafes the resort comes alive at night, cordoning off the main street by the harbour to encourage pedestrians to walk around the shops and bars and enjoy the atmosphere.

Red flags on the beach, most days, really limiting the amount of time you can go in the water. Plenty of shops and restaurants, though, and the weather was scorching throughout our stay.

We stayed just outside main resort of rethmyno at hotel Palladion and would get taxi into harbour at night,we went in oct half term and it was very quiet, believe that it is almost the end of season that week, lovely to sit at harbour bar at night, bit cool so take a jacket, food very expensive at the harbour side resturants so beware, best to go into the old town which is lovely, lots of quaint little streets to wander around, food is great, the beaches are lovely and clean,Knossos is worth a visit, wasnt much entertainment as it was oct but great for a relaxing time, can book boat trips from harbour, would say it was more suitable for couples at that time of year.

Town of Rethymnon split into old and new. The old part of town is situated around the old Venetion port overlooked by an impressive "Fortessa". Typically norrow streets filled with mainly jewellery and leather goods shops. Plenty of tavernas and traditional restaurants to choose from. Fantastic fish restaurants surrounding the port.

The resort was very large with plenty of nice cocktail bars, especially in the harbour area. It was a pleasant 10 minute walk from the hotel to the harbour. The old town was very pleasant with cobbled streets and plenty of gift shops.
The hotel had its own private beach which was across a busy main road. You did not have to pay for the sunbeds on the beach which were exclusively for the hotel. Nobody else was allowed to use the sunbeds and when other people not staying at the hotel did try to use them, the sunbed man for the hotel soon moved them on!
There was plenty of room between the sunbeds to move them around the umbrella.
There was always a life guard on duty as the sea on occasions was very rough and the undercurrents are very strong. When the green flag was flying, it was a very pleasant swim.
