The best Villa in Maroulas Village. River beach is a great place for sunset and to eat fish.

Spotlessly clean hotel. helpful staff but unfortunately the beach was very small and not very inviting.

Very secluded. Only few watersports on site, had to get boat 20mins away for anything exciting. Beaches manmade and clean but you have to pay for the sunbeds and the only bar you have to pay for your drinks and food. Would not visit this resort again, but would definately go back to crete.

There was no resort only 3 hotels but that didn't bother us as we are happy to take a taxi to the local villages
the proper beach next to the hotel was stony buy I liked it it was often to unsafe to go in the sea with children so we only went down a couple of times. you can't take much with you as you have to cross a river to get to it.

The beach is 230 steps away from the hotel (yes I counted) so not far at all. They charge €4 per day for each sunbed with umbrella. There are many shops across the road from them if you need to stock up on food or drinks. There is a lady who comes onto the beach selling donuts which she claims are ‘very good good’, people selling portions of watermelon and a Chinese man and woman offering Chinese massage. There are no toilets on the beach but you are close enough to go back to your room or if you’re cheeky you could go into one of the bars opposite. There is a Spar round the corner to the hotel (to the left if the sea is behind you).
The pavements are high, narrow and uneven – not good for people with walking disabilities or for pushchairs. Although this is a busy town it is clean. Timeshare people are a pain with their scratchcards. Our ploy was to walk past quickly and not reply to any of their questions.
Rethymnon old town is lovely and has lots of restaurants and trendy cocktail bars on the approach. There are lots of touristy shops but they can be quite repetitive as every few along seems to be a jewellers, café, leather shop or pottery shop. We only went around the harbour twice as you only have a small space to walk around it and constantly get pestered to go into the surrounding café’s. If you want cheap gifts there is a €1.50 shop which has some of the same souvenirs that are in the regular shops at a cheaper price.
You can get on the White train which leaves from the port and goes around the old town and past the castle, this was €6 each for 30 minutes.
There is a Yellow Train which goes from Rethymnon to 6 locations. Each tour takes around 3-4 hours for €15 each. We went to Eleftherna, they journey was nice but the destination was boring.
We got the bus (no 10) to Rethymnon bus station and got a further bus to Georgioupolis. There is nothing much to do there, just a few cafe bars, shops and a beach. We heard more English people speaking there than anywhere else we went to. It was really hot when we were there and on one display it showed that it was 41 degrees.
We booked a Jeep Safari through our Cosmos rep Sarah at a cost of €68 each including hot lunch and drinks with meal. Well worth the money as it is a really good day out. You go out in a group in an 8 seater 4x4 Landrover with an English speaking guide (we had George who was hilarious). He takes you to see vultures, to a local taverna, then you go off road which can be bumpy and you go to a lovely quaint village called Spilli and then round the mountain roads to a beach called Preveli Beach. When you get to the beach there is a 15 minute trek up and down a mountain to the beach or a beach before the trek which we should have gone to as it was scorching. They give you over an hour on the beach and then it’s time to trek back up and down the mountain to meet at the taverna for lunch at 2pm. After lunch we headed back and on the way stopped off at a gorge with magnificent views. We were picked up at our hotel at 9:15am and returned to the hotel at around 4pm. It was a great day.
There is a market on a Thursday and Sunday at the port on the approach to the old town. We went and it wasn’t worth the trip. It was messy and not big. I could get a better variety at home for a similar price so I bought nothing which is very unlike me.
Oh yeah………. watch out for that moped!!!! There are hundreds of them and I’m sure the drivers aim at the tourists!!

Very quiet resort but lovely area and surroundings. Some nice little tavernas to have a meal and a relaxing drink(OR TWO) just watching the world go by. At weekend all the locals come out with their families to dine so every where get packed. We took the boat from the port to Rethynon which was a good full day out , shopping and exploring the old town very enjoyable. Port area very pretty with nice little cafes and watering holes. My sister and I both have walking difficulties but we didnt find the amble too much, even though quite hilly.

Going to Crete for 12 years, Rethymno is where our Cretan fiends live. Its central for the South (great) the East and the West via the main hi-way, nice size everything in moderation but car hire is recomended , for those who sqirm at this challenge a good bus service even to the mountain villages where the true Cretans live and still practise "philoxinia" (welcome stranger) Have a nice stay ! Rethymno is a lovely town.We love the historical old town which is fascinating with narrow alleyways many traditional tavernas and gift shops as well as designer clothes shops, the bustle of the weekly market and the fabulous beach.
The town, in our opinion is better suited to older couples or families with very small children as there isn't much in the way of entertainment for older kids.
There are no British bars, no kareoke, nothing brash at all. There are also very few Brits who holiday in this part of Crete, most of the tourists are Scandinavian and Dutch.
We absolutely love the place with its friendly locals and safe environment.

Nice resort just need tidying up a little such as holes in the pavment and the roads and those idiots on scooters who come from nowhere without even there lights on doing wheelies.
Fairly low key entertainment but there are some place's that put something on most nights, however Rythmnon old town is not far and the world is your oyester there.
The beach is quite shingley so you have to be careful what you have on your feet even more so in the sea.It can also get quite rough so dont go in the sea if the red flag is flying.
I would visit the resort again no problem but I would have to chose my accomadation more carefully.
