Nice promenade to walk into town, supposed to be 3kl i thought more like miles.
Nice old town with narrow streets, nice jewellry for your lover, good restaurants, never hasseled.
3 euro for a taxi plus a good bus service with Hotel placard on the windscreen so nothing to panic about, nice park to sit in for some shade, very hot in june.
So if in doubt GO FOR IT.

Rethmynon is much larger than we anticipated, with large department stores and shops in the new town. The old town and harbour area is lovely, with small cobbled streets with tavernas and tourist shops to browse around, its very picturesque. Around the harbour there are some more expensive fish tavernas, and walking through there you get a lot of hassle, we were stopped at every one asking if we wanted a meal, drink, look at the menu etc, Not so bad in other areas and on the seafront. The tavernas are all pretty much the same price, and the food is lovely. There are some cocktail bars, tavernas and shops along the sea front but no rowdy bars with loud music which was nice. The beach is lovely and clean and the sea shallow.

Location - On the down-side, the hotel complex is a little remote so if you want to visit Panormo, 2 miles away, you can jump on the little train which runs there and back every hour in the afternoon and evening. Alternatively, it will take about 45 minutes to walk there along the old coast road looking out over the sea. Panormo is a small harbour town with a few bars and restaurants but it really is a typically old-Greek village !! Rethymnon, on the other hand, is about 12 miles away and can be reached by taxi in comfort in 15 minutes for 17 Euros (confirm price with driver before setting off). Alternatively, there is a bus service from the main road outside the hotel which I believe costs about 3 or 4 Euros but takes the best part of an hour due to all the stops on the way. I'm told the bus is not air conditioned and can get very full at certain times of ther day. Rethymnon is wonderful if, like us, you enjoy wandering around a labyrinth of twisty little streets full of shops, bars and restaurants, the new intermingled with typical old-style Greek culture. Along the front leading to the harbour are a multitude of restaurants, all vying for your custom and you can get a bit overwhelmed with it. Moving further into the town you will find the better restaurants and although we were all-inclusive at the hotel, we always like to eat out at least once during our stay. It was here that we stumbled across one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to eat in. May I strongly recommend La Renza for it's exquisite food, very fine wines and wonderful service. (Alexander, your father should be proud that his restaurant is in good hands).

The "old town" was wonderful to wander round. You never seemed to go down the same street twice. Lots of shop and restaurant owners trying to get you to stop and buy, but all extremely pleasant and not too pushy.
Entertainment was vey low key and you had to go looking for it (which suited us).
The beach was kept very clean considering the amount of people visiting it each day. The lady walking the beach selling "diet, very slimming doughnuts" brought a smile every time we heard her.
Would certainly visit this resort again.

Excellant resort. Adele basically leads into Platanes with both resorts having plenty bars and tavernas.
Beach is gorgeous.
White Lady was great for food and the bar in Paladion Hotel was excellant at night.

Accomodation is just a five minute walk from the main street in Platanias either via a main road or shortcut via an underpass (the latter not recommended at night as it's very dark, badly lit and you can't see where you're walking!)
Beach in resort is mainly shingle and stretches for miles, as far as Rethymnon town itself.
Plenty of bars to choose from,I can recommend Sky Park and Axos. Good variety of restaurants to choose from too including traditional Greek, Indian,Chinese,British and fast food also.
Some of the tavernas even do greek dancing and syrtaki in the evening to keep you entertained.

Paid a visit to Rethymynon-quite busy plenty of quaint greek shops and plenty of eating places also has a nice beech and harbour.
Resort appears cleany although there roads and footpaths leave a lot to be desired.

Adele is a beach resort, part of the ribbon development which follows the beach Road on the way in to Rethymnon. It's is regularly swept by a team of local ladies armed with brushes so was generally quite spic and span at the time of our off season visit. Lined with bars, tavernas, shops and supermarkets there is plenty to do. It is very popular with visitors of all nationalities. The adjacent clean ,sandy beach is part of the thirteen kilometers which runs to the town itself. A flag system is in operation but care should be taken when swimming since there are currents which may be a hazard to those who fail to consider the risks involved whilst offshore in the sea.
We will be visiting the area in the future.

Our hotel was classed as Rethymnon however the resort was set in very quiet grounds around 15km away from the town. It was easily accessed by car or bus and worked out cheap compared to English prices.
The town was spotless with a fantastic selection of shops -take your credit cards! Bars, cafes and restaurants all seemed to be of a high standard and were reasonably priced.
All the locals seemed very pleasant and helpful however our holiday was 2 weeks before the end of season and some appeared out for a hard sell. A traditional market tops this town off and is well worth a visit even if you are not staying there.

Plenty of top restaurants in Rethymnon. Good beaches within a four miles of Camari Gardens. Plenty to see in this quarter of Crete.
