The best Villa in Maroulas Village. River beach is a great place for sunset and to eat fish.

Beaches

The resort is kept very clean and tiday by the very hardworking family.
Rooms are very clean. Entertainment is minimal but the resort is more of a chill out for couples and entertainment is close at hand if you fancy.
The beach is long and spacious, its not a classic but its good enough!

We did visit Rethymnon quite a few times, usually in the afternoon to stay there for the evening. We found the resort not well kept at all, it seems that no one cares. there is litter strewn anywhere and everywhere, very smelly and it felt unloved, is the best way I can describe it.The beaches at Rethymnon were better looked after than at the hotel but were still very noisy and rough.

Rethymnon is lively, the tavernas are good and really cheap.

The resort around the hotel was sufficient for us. A number of bars and supermarkets doted with a few jewellery shops and gift shops. There was only 1 night club(if you could call it that) where my son and his friend would go with some British lads they had met and I felt quite happy for them to go out on their own. Lively without being too noisy and overrun with drunken yobs!!.

The old town of Rethymnon is delightful with lots of winding streets and a lovely harbour with fish tavernas inviting you in.
This can be quite intimidating at first but a polite no is all it takes for them to back off. There are lots of small shops including jewellers and leather goods and lots of lace and linen. Steer clear of the Partisan shop on the main street as they are very pushy and we were well fleeced the first year we were there.
There are delightful shops further into the town and very old buildings and streets where the cretans live so it is easy to mix with the locals. Driving takes a brave heart - greek taxi drivers are interesting!! and the streets are narrow and often one way or have furniture out with locals chatting away so take care. Parking is difficult and in the evening the front of the town closes to traffic and becomes a pedestrian paradise with barrows selling lots of different stuff that isn't available during the day.
It is customary for the taxi drivers to get people to double up in their cabs and they often stop if they have room in their cab to pick up other people. It doesn't add to the cost of your journey and be quite interesting, particulary if they are locals and you get to see a bit more of the town than you expected. The bars tend to be cafe bars and cocktail bars and not pubs and nightclubs to evenings are stress free.
The beach is of a high standard with Blue Flag status and a lot of the facilities are managed by the beachfront hotels so are kept tidy and clean. A fantastic holiday experience if you are looking for a relaxing stress free holiday. stick to Malia if you are looking for fast and 24 hour fun

The resort of Rethymnon was a lot larger than we had expected from the desciption in the brochure. It was really more like a town. There were plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from but you felt pressured into buying something in the shops of going into the restaurants by the pushy shopkeepers and waiters. The traffic was appalling with the drivers going in any direction they wished! Some people on motorbikes would even cut through the restaurants for a quick route!
The beach was ok but not the best we have ever seen. There is a museum and an old fort to visit and also some large boats to take you out of day trips. Other than that, there is not a huge amount to do in the resort other than shopping, which some of the shops were quite expensive, or eating!
Beware of the timeshare reps in blue t.shirts who will get you to try a scratch card and you will win a prize which you then go and pick up from a hotel, but are then trapped there for 5 hours being talked into buying a timeshare!
Overall, this was a pleasant resort but a little too busy for us. Not reccommended for someone who wants a quiet holiday.

the resort it self was very scruffy the beach was not to bad but very rocky need shoes to into sea although while we where they the sea was very rough most days the red flag was up so no swimming which is bad because we are beach lovers the entertaiment at our hotel was very poor althoug the germans seem to love it the resturant we visited every night was very good (the white lady) they had entertainment most nights which was ok.

The Resort in general was clean and tidy.
There was a wide varity of entertainment in the resort, from a sport's pub, which had some sort of sport on from the moment it opened to the time it closed, there were pubs and resturants with soft background music, some that had traditional dancing.
There weren't any nightclubs a such, maybe one, but the music wasn't loud.
The beach by the hotel was only a 5 min walk, it was stoney with little patches of sand, the sea had a very stong current, and I wouldn't advise it for kids! However it was clearly marked with flags flying red, amber, and green, telling you if it is safe to swim or not. There was a lifeguard on the beach too, but we never saw anyone!!
However if you go into Rethymnon the beach is lovely, clean, sandy and very very hot!!!!!! The sea is calm for the kids, its not far and very easy to get to on the bus, the buses run every half hour its well worth the visit.
All in all we had a great holiday, we paid for 2 star and that's excatly what we got!

The hotel isn't really in a resort. The nearest village is Panorma, which isn't a tourist place at all but is traditional Greece.
There's a couple of Tavernas here and a cove where you can swim, but my daughter said the fish nibbled her! It is just about walkable, but the best way to get here is the little white"train" which travels on the pavement several times a day and stops at the Creta Mare and Marine.
If you are looking to get away from it all this is the place to be.
