In our opinion Stalis was miles better than Malia. The beach road was lined with restaurants and bars, both traditional Greek and British. We had the best of both worlds - Great Greek cuisine where we practised our smattering of Greek and good old British entertainment when we fancied a change. There were quizzes, Karaoke nights and live music, alongside tavernas and coctail bars.

The beach is narrow but clean and well equiped with sunbeds and umbrellas. Depending on which part of the strip you went the prices varied between 5 and 6 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella. There were also beach showers and where we were we had the use of the hotel bar and swimming pool. The sea could get a bit rough as most days there was a good breeze but this made the waves all the more fun. It was quite rocky in places but as the sea was clear they could be easily avoided.

The resort was kept very clean. We enjoyed the Happy train which had a number of excursions on offer. One word of warning if you decide to take the bus anywhere- in our experience they weren't very reliable. We waited at the bus stop for an hour one evening for the bus to Agios Nickolaus, as we were told they went on the hour and half past the hour.Various buses past but not one stopped in the whole hour, so we never did get to Ag Nik - which was a shame. We made a good choice in picking Stalis.

Stalis was a great resort in which to stay, comprising basically of one long strip along the beach road into Malia. It is not a resort that opens early, with most places starting to serve breakfast at around 9.30. A taxi to the furthest end of Stalis was 8 euros which was good value. There were loads of good quality restauarants and little eateries - Jasmine House (the chinese), Angelos, Zorbas to name a few. We didn't have a bad meal in the fortnight we were there. There were plenty of British style pubs - with quizzes, Karaoke etc.
We took the "happy train" to Krassi up in the mountains and spent a pleasant few hours there. We normally hire a motor bike but found the roads too busy until you were out of the main resort.
There were several ways to go to the beach, which I admit is not the best I have seen. It is very rocky in places, and there are some large waves in the sea - the red flag was often flying.

The nights out are mainly your evening meals, with plenty of resteraunts and cocktail bars to choose from. Many of these face onto the sea. The Rose and Crown was our faviourite with excellent food and value for money. The beach was very clean with plenty of watersports available.

This was our third time in Stalis and it is still a fantastic place to visit. There is plenty to do , it is safe for children. The places to eat and drink are fantastic with plenty to choose from and you are well looked after. Try Yannis, Maistraili, Roma and there are too many others to mention.
The water park is great but you do not have to go to the big on the reps tell you about you can go to the one at Kastelli. It only costs 22 euros that includes your transport from Stalis.
If uou have teenagers go through to Star Beach in Hersonnisis where they can go Go Karting, The Greek Night in the hills is also good for a laugh especially if you want to Greek Dance.

Stalis is what we expected. Very clean and tidy. Just enough bars and restaurants, not too noisy and not too busy. Lots of proper Greek restaurants serving really good food, no complaints at all. Beach clean, some parts sunbeds too close together. We found the best part in front of Mythos Bar, cost bit more but more space. Suprised how reasonable food and drink was. Got beer at euros 1.50, most we paid was 3 euros. Food we found to be very cheap and really tasty especially the traditional Greek food. Will visit again but not yet, like to try somewhere different next year.

Stalis is fantastic for everyone who likes a more laid back holiday whereby if they want to eat out in a different place everynight {costs about 20-30 euros for 2 course meal with a few drinks} they can.

Drinks anything from 1.50 - 4 euros for a beer

Cocktails - 5 - 7 euros

Fried breakfast 3-7 euros

If they want to have a dance there a lots of lively bars and pubs

If they want to go hardcore and party/pull whatever they are 10 mins from Malia which has all that.

For couples and families this place is ideal - the beaches are good and theres plenty to do.

If your in your teens to early/mid 20's this may not be quite as lively as you would like - but again Malia is close and costs around 15 euros each way in the taxis.

Although the rep gives you scare stories dont be afraid to rent a quad just remember these rules:

Dont drink and drive as remember most people who drive these bikes are wearing shorts so if a car hits you are you come off it it could be messy!

Remember to wear a helmet - Police are really clamping down on this now so if you use the bike to visit other resorts you will find police doing stop checks everywhere - I saw lots of holiday makers getting tickets due to not wearing their helmets etc

Make sure you get special full insurance - the clause in the contract states though that if you damage the bike you can pay between 25-250 euros for any damage

Remember only the name on the contract you sign is covered by the policy - so if your taking driving in turns make sure your the one on the bike if you have a crash lol

Remember most drivers of other countries are well below are own driving standards so give yourself plenty of time to brake as taxis and mopeds will cut you up on a regualr basis -

it may all sound risky above but this is just common sence and these bikes are the best way to visit near by resorts - just remember most holiday insurance policies do not cover you for accidents on you quade so be sensible.

You will have a great time and most weather sites which we checked before we left were all wrong - saying the weather would be 27-32 degrees - it was 40 -50 degrees while we were there so take a decent UV factor cream with you and enjoy

Overall are holiday was great - shame about BV

Stalis is a lovely resort. The beach is clean with showers available.

There are some fabulous restaurants. You must try Maria's Golden Beach, Amici (Italian), Creta Beach and a fantastic hidden gem called Hellas.

There are plenty of bars and tavernas along the main strip with some bars showing the latest movies outdoors. There are several quad bikes passing through to the busier town of Malia a short distance away but this didn't bother us. The beach is small but clean with plenty of watersports although you do have to pay for sun loungers.
