Since last year the authroties have made efforts to eliminate the quad bkie menace on the beach road at night, though there is "still improvements to be made"

The resort of Stalis is very small and homely. On the main Stalis-Malia beach road, there is a strip of bars and restaurants as well as a beach, where you can participate in watersports and suchlike. The reason for us staying in Stalis was actually because its a cheaper and safer version of Malia. Eventually, I preferred staying in Stalis as opposed to Malia because Malia is EXTREMELY dangerous- you have to watch your bags constantly and I saw people constantly getting into fights, getting 'bottled' and stabbed. The nightlife there is AMAZING but it's a risk you have to take. Stalis is much safer and more suited for families if that's what you are looking for. The only thing that annoyed me about Stalis was that when you walk down the strip, you are continuously harassed by restaurant employees persuading you to go and eat in there and we probably would have eaten in there if they weren't so irritating! But apart from that, the resort is brilliant and I would definately stay there again. If you're looking for a 18-30s holiday, it's worth staying in Stalis and getting a taxi to Malia when you need to. I wouldn't recommend staying in Malia unless you like waking up to smashed windows and bloody swimming pools :|

Stalis - Malija is a nice place to be in. There is a great balance - if you want more fun, entertainment and parties you can go to Malija which is very close to STALIS. If you prefer a quiet place then you can stay in Stalis and enjoy calm and quiet relaxation.

Excellent restauranta and bars. loads of trips to go on. beach clean and nice my only gripe is the sunbeds are to close for comfort. you can get deals on the beach if you look, 2 sunbed,a table,a brolly and 2 lunches for 8 euros.and beach service if you want it what more do you need.

Stalis is a lively resort great for teenagers. It has some great restaurants including Katrina's where the mousaka is fab and the cretan corner has good food. All the staff in the restaurants are very friendly. Beware though, you may be a little hassled in the main strip (beach road) to go into the restaurants.
The quad bikes can be a nuisance in the hgih season and the cretian's driving has a lot to be desired.
The beach can be busy in high season but the sea is warm and there are life gaurds.
Malia is about an half an hour walk from Stalis and is very very lively with alot of young people who tend to have a lot to drink so not worth a visit at night.
We hired a car and went to Knossos Palace and Spinalonga, both were very enjoyable.
The water park at Heraklion was good fun too.

Stalis as a whole was brilliant. The hotel as i mentioned above was not the crem del la crem but what do you expect for £350 p/w including flights and transfers. We were only there for the beach and the nightlife in malia/stalis.
Loads and loads of restaurants to choose from. Staff in the bars etc are all extremly friendly and are always a laugh. Visit bars called Rythm Club (R&B and Commercial Dance), La Rocca (same as rythm) & Yo Yo (indie rock).
If you are there for a quiet holiday there are also plenty of small bars to choose from. There are some beautiful restaurants situated on the sea front and a really nice italian next to the chuch situated on the left side of the strip.
Malia is a 2 Minute taxi journey and is worth going there if your up for a drink. Insane deals on drinks 4 drinks for price of one, free fishbowls and shots when you buy a drink. Its all good. Go to Candy Club its best club there.
Like i say Stalis is a smallish town with beautiful veiws and lovely people. reasonable prices and nice bars and restaurants. Absolutely loved the holiday. I would reccomend Stalis to anyone.

Stalis is getting bigger every year, we visited it many years ago and it has grown tenfold since then. Its a typical family resort of the Greek islands with bars and shops catering for most needs.
To get a decent pint and meal you are probably now paying the same price as here at home. You can still get beer at 1.5 euros a pint but if you pay slightly more and get bottles or british draugths you can tell the difference.
No longer a good place for bring a bottle of scotch home on the cheap, our supermarkets are as cheap as theirs now. Even canned and bottled beer or wine is as cheap here for nights on the balcony. Smokers can relax though, the ciggies are a lot cheaper, easily evident by those bringing them home by the thousand on the last day of their hols. probably about half price for the ciggies.
The beach is lovely but the sea currents are strong, take notice of how far you venture into the water as I am a good swimmer and could feel myself being pulled out to sea on a breezy day. Be careful if your kids are in the sea.
Sunbeds are a couple of euros each on average on the beach with a sun brolley chucked in with the price on average. Try the pool are at the Malliotakis hotel, you can rent the loungers, use their pool area and its right on the beach. It has a good pool bar for food and drink and the staff in there are very friendly. Just walk towards Malia to find it.
Good bars are plentiful, the red lion quiz and bingo are a good laugh if you want a quiet night, the rovers return is a good bar, but so are a lot of others. I have mentioned a couple with typically english names but thats just because its easy to remember their names.
Try a Gyros from Nikos or chippy,s for a late night snack, or a crepe for the same places, gets rid of the late night munchies.
I have not read other reviews on the area yet but i have no doubt they will mention quad bikes. They are an unnecesarry nuisance. Young kids and more mature persons who should know better are spoiling the area by using no road sense or manners. Accidents are happening all the time and according to some locals we had a drink with they hope to be banned by next year. I hope so.
Walked along to Malia, we are young at heart 40 somethings who enjoy a noisy night out at times but the resort is a dump. Greek police are trying to do something about it but are failing. The greeks are happy selling anyone willing to pay as much alcohol as they can drink, pouring it through funnels, drinking four bottles of plonk through 4 straws from a bucket full of ice, buy one get one free but dont like drunks behaviour. Unless they control their greed for our lager louts money they wont get anywhere.
We enjoyed our 2 weeks there but hired a car and had a look around. Sissi along the caost is a lovely place, still a bit greek and a bit slower pace, well worth a holiday there if you want to relax.

The is resort is not for children. You cant move for idiots on quad bikes and as for the beach.............. where are they supposed to build a sandcastle for goodness sake. They have the loungers packed like sardines on the beach and then have the cheek to charge you to lie on one.
