Stalis is the best place to go Malia is too much to handle you get mithered to death and they just throw drinks down your neck, the best bar to go to are ryhtem bar and the Irish house frendly and funny.

Stalis on first impression is abit strange when you are used to visiting Spain, but we grew to enjoy it.
Forget pathways down the main street, you are fighting for space with mopeds, quad bikes, cars and coaches but after a couple of days you don't take too much notice, although the quad numbers on the road do become too much as most of the riders don't really have a clue.
Entertainment on the whole was pretty low key, but there are plenty of really good eating places along the main steet with something for everybody. If you want booze and loud music and idiots go to Malia.
The beaches were'nt as good as we had expected but we eventually found an area we went to a number of times as it was kept really clean and on a calm day walking into the sea was like walking into a luke warm bath.Plenty of beds and brollies but prices differ depending where you go.

It depends on your age and expectations...young, free and wild - this is the place for you!
We are not in this category and for us the resort was a let down. Yes there is entertainment - hence my '5' - but its noisy, brash and aimed at those that seek a bit of GB in Greece e.g. Rovers Return Pub. Fine if that's your bag.
Plenty of Tavernas - all seemed to give good service.
Good sandy beach, clean water (bit rough when the wind blows). Sun loungers at 3 euros for two if you pick the right spot.
The big problem for strollers on the beach road is quad bikes and scooters, not to mention the odd bus.
I can only assume it is one hell hole in high season.

The resort was great, the people friendly, food was very good in all the restaurants e.g. the Argo, The Fontana.

The resort is a typical busy Greek tourist resort! There are countless restuarants - some good and others not so - but in two week we did not have one bad meal. Yannis was the best restuarant we visited in our opinion with very close attention to detail to ensure that your meal (and service) was first-class. There was every sort of entertainment, although I guess teenagers and early 20's etc would be better catered for in nearby Malia. The beach appeared to be very busy everyday so I guess that speaks for itself. Stalis is a very good place to stay to really explore Crete and get away from the holiday crowds and I would recommend a car for the culture vultures to thoroughly explore the island. Crete people are generally very friendly and approachable.

Great resort, plenty of shops, bars & restaurants. We ate out most nights at many different restaurants and each one of them were very welcoming and served great food. We expecially like greek food and didn't have one bad meal the whole two weeks.
We can recommend Knossos restaurant and certainly their lasange, not a big dish but boy it's tasty.
We found Stalis to be pretty central and not far onto the New National Road which takes you east or west for sightseeing if you hire a car.
Biggest negative of Stalis is no footpaths so you have to watch out for traffic all the time.
