Stayed at Calangute fantastic beach, beachsellers a bit of a pain but shack owners tend to clear them, if you have one too many kingfishers you can find your way to the main steps from the beach look for the big light...bustling resort but fasinating....

Calangute beach is horrible, however Baga Beach is very good and only a short Taxi away....go to the Silver Sands Shack as they are brilliant including all the curries (aloo gobi...10/10) and even egg and chips were enjoyed!

Love Calangute but did not realise that we needed a taxi to reach the resort that the hotel states that it is in.

I don't use Baga Beach so I can't comment. We travel to Candolim Beach every day.

Candolim is very friendly with good food - quieter than Calangute and Baga where most of the younger people tend to go.
More effort is being made to clean up the resort and beach area and I have seen a definite improvement in the last 5 years.
The main beach area now has security on to keep the beach sellers away. Beach sellers can be a pain but I am not sure I like to see these security men weilding their truncheons - usually at the women and children - the men still seem to do as they please! Had an argument with one of these men for actually using the truncheon on one of the ladies that give massages - she was only sitting in the shade out of the sun near the sun beds - not bothering anyone - not acceptable.

As calangute is the main shopping area and all roads are quite dusty it can quickly become littered.
The Colonia de Braganza entrance and reception areas however were kept very clean. Lots of eating places on the main roads and side roads. Excellent foods at next to nothing prices 50ruppes in a taxi about 65pence will take you to Chinese, Italian, Goan, Tibetan and a few English restaurants for the less adventurous can even get a Sunday lunch roast for about £3 for a day. On the beach with lunch incl then a full night out look at £10 per person per day incl drinks.

Calangute is lively and bustling. There is something for everyone here. There are many shops along Calangute high street and the beach has much to offer with good restaurants, watersports and lively beach shacks.
There is not much in the way of pavement, and what little there is used by the shop keepers to display their goods.
There are banks and at least 3 ATM points on the high street that are open 24 hours a day. Shop around for the best exchange rate as these can differ from place to place.

Calangute is lovely, lively and bustling.
I'd defintely stay here again.
Beaches are beautiful, beach shacks everyhwere to watch the world go by and eat fresh sea food.
Watersports about, high street busy with shops and shopkeepers trying to entice you into their shops for a sale.
You can get all you need here so don't bother to overpack your case with toiletries as they can all be brought when there.

We love this place because it caters for westerners whilst retaining the Goan way of life. This is how it should be, we are visiting their country and because it helps their economy they cater for western needs and positivly enjoy us being there. What we like about this hotel is it is amongst the residential area where you can get a feel of their way of life. Great places to eat and shop.
