The area was ok it is in the middle of candolim and calangute but taxis are easy and cheap to get,a 10 min walk to the beach where the was fab shacks and the beach is great,
I am going back in january but we are going more into baga as we like it a little more lively and closer to more restraunts.

Although Calangute is not as clean as the neighbouring resorts it has a certain charm that lures you back. There is always things going on and is fab for people watching and watching the day go by. The beach has more of a litter problem than candolim but this did not deter us in the slightest.

Very much a third world country with poverty being very obvious but this didn't make any difference to the locals who were most welcoming and always had a smile on their faces. We have never said good morning so many times. Interesting resort with lots of bars and beach shacks, with most providing some sort of entertainment. Trying to find a curry was like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Calangute is very busy with shops, restaurants bars lining the main road.
I felt a little intimidated by the shop keepers when I first arrived but soon got used to them and soon felt comfortable going into shops to browse and haggle over prices. The area is very dusty (bright red dust that ruins shoes, take a pair of cheap flip-flops)and there is lots of litter, traffic and the occasional cow.
There are plenty of bars etc. but did not venture out much in the evening, so can't comment too much on entertainment. The beach was busy and sea very rough, swimming not recommended. Loungers are readily available, owners just expect you to buy a drink from their shack (very cheap and they don't keep hassling you to buy more).
The resort is great for shopping, tailor made clothes and shoes are great buys. We visited towards the end of the tourist season and the weather became very hot during the second week.
The Goan people are lovely, very friendly. Despite being very busy I felt completly safe in the resort.

Calangutes changing, that i think every agrees.
I fisrt visited Goa, Calangute 7 years ago and have been 4 times now.
Calangutes getting more busy every season, too busy.
Part of Calangutes attraction is its lively bars and restaurants, but its becoming a place were you cant have a relaxing walk at any time, day and night.
I'll go back to Goa but will look to South Goa , to find the Goa of my first visit.

Calangute is a very busy resort, but having stayed at the baga end,it was more sedate.
The roads could be cleared of litter to improve the cleanliness of the resort.
The beach and the shacks are fantastic and i would definately stay here again.
