Baga Beach is a long streach of shacks with great waves and plenty of sunbeds. There is never a second you get yourself though with out some one trying to sell you something. If your alseep they will try and wake you, you will say 'No thankyou' a thousand times over.
You have to be also careful when you go they get alot of people from all over India that the men in our shack we went to called the 'looky looky men.' Becuase they just stair at you and take pictures at the white women. Its uncomfortable to say the least.
You cant really take a walk down the beach becuase you are hassled to go into every shack you walk past, though everyone is lovely and you are waited on hand and foot were ever you go, it gets too much if your not one for the 'hussle and bussle' Yet ask the locals for other quiet beaches they reccomend. There are plenty of hidden little heavens.
We got told to go to a place called, Sweet Chilly. From the outside it looks amazing great for kids really nicely done up. Yet we never booked so didnt get a seat that saw any of the entertainment but the night wasnt spoilt by that. Two starters were taken back because they were cold. Two of our party ordered crab. it came about a hour later with no meat in it what so ever. It was like some one had already opened it and scraped it all out. In the claw tho was a little bit of meat that the two tryed, the next day falling ill to food poisioning. It was a terrible night in all. The best crab we had was in a small little place just on Baga road all the food and service was lovely. Dont always judge a place by what it looks like. There are plenty of places to go close to the hotel.
A place I really advise everyone to try is 'After 7' for a little bit of class. You can see the chefs cooking behind a glass screen the service is like butlers all dressed in trousers and shirts and the menu is just class to die for, A little more expensive than the rest but you get what you pay for and more.
'East meets West' is also a place I really recommend everyone tries. The staff are brilliant and the food is delicious.

North Goa’s main tourist beach, and a lovely beach it is, stretches about 4 miles from the south at Fort Agua, through the centre portion at Calengute, to the Bagga end in the north. When my family first went here about 10 years ago, it was still for the most part beachshack and sunbed free. In recent years there has been a lot of development in the area, shacks line the beach with their respective sunbeds. It all depends what your looking for doesn’t it? I guess for some people the way this area is now is how they like it, but for us, we now go a short way north of here to Arambol beach, a more tranquil place altogether, although having said that, Arambol is also changing, perhaps before long we will need to cross that bit farther north again into Maharastra. It’s a shame how we tourists can inadvertently change a place until the reasons we came are no longer there.

We have been to Calengute about 11 times now. The beach and streets did not seem to be a clean as in previous times. He Ho that's GOA.

Calangute seems to becoming more crowded, polluted and fly blown with every year I visit. You are pestered from dawn to dusk by street sellers, beggars, shack owners and taxi drivers.

Calangute is dirty, noisy and manic - but I love it

Never having been to Calangute we were understandably nervous about what it would be like. It probably took 2 or 3 days to get used to the place but I thought it was immense. The locals were exceptionally friendly and seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our stay in Goa.
We tended to go to Candolim beach during the day as it was more relaxed but it is certainly worth going to Calangute beach on a Sunday and watching the locals. A sight never to be forgotten.
I would also note that at no time (even at 3am walking down the beach) did either myself or 'erself feel wary or threatened or nervous, unlike practically any street in Blighty. The place just did not feel like somewhere you had to be wary. It had a positive feel. Hard to explain.
I would imagine the resort is pretty hard going if you have young kids and there didn't seem to be terribly much for children or teenagers to do, unless they want to lie in the sun. But if you like relaxing, sitting back enjoying the world go by, as we do, then this place is terrific.
Thought East meets West was the best for food but in fairness had very few poor meals.
All in all a very good place to go and we will certainly be returning.
