Calangute beach was too busy for us, you are hassled every 2 minutes. Candolim Beach is better and there are some nice shacks do nice food. Antonio's beach shack expecially was the best.

We have visited Calangute on many occassions and we always find the locals very friendly. There are many bars and cafes who serve very good food and they will always cook the food to your liking.
The beach from Candolim to Baga is wonderful. Take a walk along the beach and visit the shacks for a drink or a super meal all at reasonable prices.
The sunbeds are free if you use a shack and the beach sellers are quite amusing walking up and down selling their wares.
Crossing a road can be a problem due to the amount of traffic and you are never quite sure which way a vehicle is going. The chemists are very helpful should you need advice.

I would visit Calangute again, but not to stay over. There was nothing really that bad about it. Just that we found it a bit to manic, and busy. Taxi drivers were to pushy, even while we out for a walk. Beach sellers did understand NO THANKYOU. They have a living to make as well,we at home get it so easy. The local people were brilliant. When they smiled at you, it was so genuine and fresh. Sunsets, well you can get these anywhere, but sit at a shack, on the beach, with a cold drink. Magical.

Calangute what can I say we loved it - people very friendly - no hastle - beaches beautiful. Our son was married on Mandarin beach on Feb 14th (that is another story in itself) but we are already looking for flights for next Feb can't wait. One of the best holidays we've had and we have been many places.

Loved Goa. Loved Calangute. Lots of shops, beach lovely, loads of trips at inexpensive prices, taxi's are cheap, though try the tuk tuks as they are fun.
Loads of restaurants selling food of all kinds at really cheap prices. A good meal is less than £1.50.
Mind how you cross the road as no one stops for you, and keep away from the many dogs that roam around.
Give to those who beg if you can, and tip if you get good service. £1 isn't much, it means the world to them, and you'll feel better for it when you return.
Try not to let the the airport put you off. It's horrendous I know, but don't let it spoil a smashing place with beautiful people.
Our first time and we're looking forward to going back in a couple of years
