This is Goa and you have to accept that their poor infastructure means that this is not and unlikely to ever be of the same standard as European resorts.
In fact most people who visit don't want it to be. There are no pavements, roads are chaotic, cows and dogs roam the streets and beeches but you can't help but fall in love with it!!
On Candolim beach we went to Ganesh Shack (behind Whispering Palms Hotel). Ganesh is a lovely friendly person and his sister and cousin make you feel very welcome. Food is good and reasonably priced and his standards are high.
We would'nt go anywhere else.

This resort was great. There were plenty of shops which all i can is very cheap indeed. The people were a bit overpowering trying to get you into there particular shop but once you say no and walk on they do not persist. There is plenty of places to eat and drink and the prices of the food and drink was unbelievably cheap. A couple can eat and drink for about twelve pounds, and thats with both having three courses plus a lot of drinks.
We would definetely come back to this resort.

Candolim is becoming quite crowded, roads to beach and restaurants dangerous day and night. Normal Indian problems with beggars and hawkers.

Ive been to Goa 3 times and have always stayed in Candolim, it was however Fredas first visit and our first time staying in Prazeres, we had a little trouble on the first day and had to move rooms 3 times but the staff were really friendly and helped us alot.
The staff kept the rooms really tidy and clean, the pool area was always clean and so was the resteraunt.
We only ate in the resteraunt about 4 or 5 times and we were down for breakfast every day and the food i thought was very nice.
We were down at Claudinas shack on Candolim beach every day as Alex and Antony are very good friends of mine, we ate out most nights at Fishermans Cove as I know know Blaize and Lenny and Reddy very well, they are fantastic people and entertain every one all the time, Cactus is also a good eating establishment, Ram is very friendly, he, up untill last year worked for Blaize and Lenny then opened up his own resteraunt and is doing very well, the food is amazing.
We also ate at Flambe's, the staff there are so funny and your definately well looked after, the kitchen is also open and you can see your food being cooked which i thought was brillient.
We went up to Calagute a fair few times to see Lelie and Babu at The Log Cabin, which is a great karaoke place.
Candolim beach is a beautiful beach, i dont know what everyones problem with the river princess is, its abit of a landmark now, its an eyesore at first but it is a beautiful ship and its been there so long its a part of the beach, they keep saying theyre going to move it but that may never happen lol.
We had some grat partys at Claudinas Shack with bingo and cocktail sticks lol.
We also had some great nights at the hotel, they gave Freda a birthday party, which was hilerious, we had karaoke and disco and indian nights, it really was great, we even had a party at the owners other hotel, he gave us a trip up there.
It really is a great hotel and id definately go back there again and i would recommend anyone to go there for a great holiday and always choose Candolim resort. Its the best.

Candolim - Excellent. We were there just before the season started and it was just 'warming-up'!
Can imagine the week after we left it got very busy as charters had just started to arrive, and not our cup of tea as we prefer a bit quieter. 1st week there were no shacks open at Candolim, only at Baga & Calangute but they started opening as we left.
Plenty of restaurants, bars & shops. Easily accessible by bus, rickshaw, taxi or by foot along the beach! Wonderful people, wonderful memories.
Hope to be back in 2006!

Candolim is a pleasant resort by Goan standards, good restaurants and bars, beautiful sandy beaches, friendly locals.
Downside if you haven't been before - the noise - car horns constantly beeping and taxi drivers and stallholders trying to entice you (it can get a bit much sometimes) Not easy walking as there are no footpaths and the roads are very dusty - ladies don't bother taking heels or any footwear that you would want to wear again at home.
Very laid back type of holiday with some good excursions available would mainly suit beach lovers who enjoy the simple things in life.
