Candolim is not an asian Las Vegas however its a moderately quiet beach resort, offering plenty of varied small restaraunts bars and shops.
Language not a problem transport not a problem and there are some interesting places to visit in surrounding areas.
Locals very friendly we will definatly be going back.

My 6th time in Candolim. Lovely, friendly people. The beach gets busy over Christmas and New Year but there is plenty of room.
Too many restaurants to mention and you will be able to find a cuisine that suits, from English to Italian as well as various Indian,Thai and Chinese.
Candolim is great for couples who do not like it too quiet but like eating out for pennies. Already booked again for Christmas 2007.

Candolim is lively resort plenty of restaurants & bars where the food is cheap & good. There is a large beach with a steady incline into the sea (but please be careful near the shipwreck as there are dangerous under currents someone drowned while we were there) . A bit of advice don't where white or pale coloured shoes or trousers as the streets are mainly dust tracks & contains iron ore , which will stain .The beach bars are great & offer good food/drink again v.cheap & offer some repite from the constant line of street peddlers. i would also recommend Bagga again a good choice bars & restaurants & good beach, but Calangut is v.dirty & not too many tourists down there . All the best J & J.

Candolim beach is part ot a pretty four mile long sandy beach. Beach shacks are built each season (October to April) and these sell cold drinks and excellent food at very reasonable prices all day until late evening.
The most popular shacks try to charge you for the use of their sunbeds but many will welcome you for free if you buy drinks or food.
The beach is clean but beware of wandering dogs and cattle. The sea can be dangerous as it can get deep close to the land. You will be visited by dozens of local sellers who can be very persistent though if you are firm you will be left alone. Local police try to keep the sellers away.
A large tanker has been beached 150m from shore since 2000.
The main street through Candolim is narrow and very busy. Excellent restaurants and shops line the street and traffic, mainly mopeds, is constant and heavy.
An over-abundance of taxis park everywhere and owners try and find customers.
It is a very poor country and it is not easy to differentiate between the genuine poor and the professional beggars.
The biggest problem with the resort is the fact that rubbish is not collected by the authorities. Plastic bottles, empty packaging, building materials and other waste is just dumped and left.
Entertainment is mainly restricted to hotels and restaurants but a few clubs have opened. It is best to travel by taxi late evening.
Calangute is two miles north and much busier than Candolim.
Weather during December was sunny and dry every day - about 32 degrees Centigrade.
I would certainly consider another visit to this area.

Glad we picked this resort. Has to be one of the best value for money in Goa. Have stayed at plenty of resorts with higher star ratings - Sonnesta matches the best.
Food was good if somewhat pricey. Perhaps a more varied menu would not go amiss.
Location has to be perfect - not too far from the parties further north if that's what you want. Yet, the beach is just a short stroll away through the resport gardens if all you want is to dream on the sands.
All staff polite, courteous, efficient. Housekeeping were especially patient at waiting on when we were ready for them to service our room.
Felt sorry for the resort who tried to lay on some theme evenings. Alas, most guests had other ideas so the evenings appeared too quiet. Feel that the resport has plenty to offer (inc good gym, pool table, pool etc) to allow guests to pick their own preference for other ways to amuse themselves.

Candolim as always is just the best place to stay in North Goa. Tried down South one year and still ended up travelling to Candolim for a couple of nights.

Candolim is the best resort in the area. We visited calengute and found this resort to be one of the worst places I have ever been to, make sure you are not staying in the main area as this resort is busy, dirty and very noisy.
If we had chosen this resort to stay in we when we arrived would have got back on the next flight and returned back home! Candolim is a great resort with hussle and bussle and great bars and resurants to eat in, all the locals are really friendly and helpful.
I would also recommend the Arabian Beach Shack owned by Anthony and run by Lawrance,Zina, Simon and Michael. You will not be dissapointed with the hospitality and food quality. These people are some of the nicest we have ever met, will be returning next year!

We would definatley go back to Candolim, we satyed in Calangute the previous year, which was hectic, especially when all the people from Mumbai come down for New Year. Candolim was peaceful, and you could cross the road without nearly being killed like in Calangute!
