Beaches

we have visited goa for the last 7 years,& have noticed a big increase of traffic which sometimes can be a bit daunting when walking the main road especially on a night time the beach is nice & clean there seems to be more & more bars putting music on but most of the bands are not very good, and it can be a bit noisy, i think the resort has cleaned up a bit over the last few years, but they still need to get some sort of waste disposal set up, having said all that we love the place & will be back for more.

If you have never been to Goa befor it can be a bit of an eye opener,it's not the cleanest place in the world but the beach was clean and litter free (unlike some of the beaches we visit in Greece every year!)There are pleanty of resturants along the main street and a good few shops, though they mostly all sell the same sort of things.

I was a little suprised at how busy the resort was with a very busy road running along the main drag. You did get a lot of hassle from taxi drivers and street seller`s and you seem to be saying "No Thanks" very frequently.
The standard of the food in most restraunts was very good and exceptionaly cheap typically £10.00 for a 2-course dinner for two including a couple of drinks!
The beach is lovely and the sea very warm, and you can enjoy a couple of drinks and the use of the beach shacks sunbeds for the day for a few pounds. But on the downside you do get plenty of hassle from beach sellers who seem to come from all directions once they clock your wallet coming out. No good pretending to be asleep they can spot your eyes moving (Not joking :-)
I would suggest hiring a moped (with a good horn)or hire a taxi for the day (approx £12.00)to see the beaches and natural sorroundings of northern Goa which is very beautiful and only takes approx 1 hour to drive.
I would recommend Candolim which is a nice place to stay and provides a good base to explore the rest of Goa due to its faily central location.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink at exceptionaly cheap prices. The standard of the food was very good with a wide choice of diffrent restraunts serving a wide variaty of food.
I would definatley return to this resort, however if you are looking for a more sedate holiday try lookin further north beyond Anjuna or try south Goa.

There were the usual piles of rubbish along the roadside that you expect to see in Goa, but generally shops, shacks and resaurants were clean.
The beach was clean, though shelved steeply and had strong currents. We used the Arabian Shack - overseen by Lawrence! Everyone there was friendly, sun beds were free, the food was very good at reasonable prices.
Would possibly use this resort again, though as previously commented we like to go to different areas

We like Candolim very much so much so we visit twice a year, only wish we could have more time off of work to visit more often.
The place is very clean you don't see any litter.
The entertainment is low key a few bars with karaoke and pub quizes also some very nice singers. You can go slightly out of town to the nightclubs which are very busy but are open air exept for matrix the only one we did not enjoy.
The beach is very nice and also very clean and there is a lot of shacks to visit although the one we go to is Ganesh's it is run by Ganesh, his sister Yeshi and cousin Babu it is just down the road where the whispering palm hotel is. The shack to the right of Ganesh as you are looking out to sea is run by not so nice a family and would advise people to stay clear and go elsewhere as they cause a lot of bother for the decent shack owners.
If you visit Ganesh shack he is a very good person to ask any information you may be looking for.
I will be visiting again 7th april and then in January 2008 hope to see new customers at Ganesh's.

Is situated not far from the beach there are many different roads leading to it.
Transport is very cheap to visit Panjam or any of the other places in Goa. Try the local transport this is good and next to nothing and is exciting.
Vist the spice plantation and educate yourself this is very interesting, and bathe with the elephants.

i was dissappointed the first couple of days, the resort is a bit of a shock as a first time visitor to india but i slowly got used to the way of life, very friendly people & food was unbelivable also very very cheap.

I have found the beach a bit dirty in Candolim and have tended to travel a bit further toward Calangute for a cleaner part of the beach as the Shack owners up that end organise the cleaning of their part of the beach. Candolim beach this year we found to be quite dirty and disappointing.

Candolim is a fairly spread out resort, geared solely to tourism and consisting primarily of hotels, guest houses, restaurants and souvenir shops.
The beach, lined with beach shacks is not as busy as Calangute and Baga beach and the current is also not quite as strong.
Personally I found it to lack the character found in other, working resorts, like Baga and Calangute and, because it is primarily geared to tourism it is also slightly more expensive.
