Es Cana is a lovely quiet family resort with a few discos for the party animals. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Beach is lovely and sandy.

Es Cana is very small and compact and aimed strictly at families looking for a quite holiday. It has one loop road running down towards the beach and back out towards the flea market with most bars, shops and restaraunts alongside it. You can walk the full resort in around 15 mins.
The resort and beach are fairly clean but the killer in this area is jelly fish. The main beach and the larger beach a short walk away are plagued with shoals of them, its the first time I have been in the med and absolutely no one is in the sea. Be catious if any travel agents etc talk about it being a one off as locals we talked to say it happens sporadically throughout the summer every year.
We couldn't risk it with a three year old so we gave up and got a bus into Santa Eulia most days which has a far superior beach and simply superb breakfasts and lunches to be had at the bar Dona Anna alongside the marina. (buses run every 30 mins each way, journey is 10 mins, 1.25 Euros one way, kids free).
There are some fairly nice bar/restaraunts along the beach in Es Cana and 2 good Italian restaraunts as you head towards the flea market and a small selection of bars but really the best option again is to bus into Santa Eulia where the choice and quality is far better.
We really enjoyed our stay but a week was definately long enough in such a small resort. The big plus is the close and accessible proximity of the much bigger Santa Eulia resort and if you are looking at this area that would be the resort I would choose.

Resort doesnt change over the years and remains a fairly quiet and lovely place to visit.

The resort was quiet when we visited as was mid may and not much had opened yet although considering it was the start of the season, no one in the shops or bars seemed that happy to see the tourists!
Tthe beach was lovley however we could'nt go in the sea because of the jellyfish, which was a real shame.
I would'nt visit this resort again as there just was'nt enough to occupy us.

My views on the resort of Es Cana are simply brilliant for families or couples, probaly not the place for those looking for lively night life, it is quite the opposite to San Antonio and Playa den Bossa, but more going on than Portinax and San Miquel.

The beach is small and most days there were heaps and heaps of sea weed which in the sun smelt.Either that or it was the drains. The pavements are very narrow, non existant in some places, I would not haved to have been pushing a wheel chair or pushchair round, its not safe. There is no where to walk and nights and no quiet pubs where you can just sit, they all seemed to blast music at you,
We used the ferry a lot, good service, weather permitting and reasonably priced. You can pay on the boat, they have the destination on the front, Santa Elulia was 8 euros return, Ibiza 13 euros rtn, Calla Llonga was 11 euros return,You have to change boats at Santa Elulia for Ibiza and Calla llonga but heres the good bit, we never waited more than 5 mins, if your boat is not in, its coming round the bay, talk about organised !!
We also used the little train at night which costs 6 euros return to Santa Elulia , drops you off by the marina and picks up 1 hour later, you just have time to walk the length of the promenade which is 100% better than Es Cana.
Would we go back ? yes probably in a couple of years.

Escana is a fantastic family resort. There are plenty of bars that cater for children and have entertainment, beach is fantastic but lots of jelly fish in the water so we did not fancy swimming. Glass bottom boat is a must very cheap and well worth it to see the ship wreck.

Es Cana is a small, quiet, relaxed resort with a family/older couple feel to it.
In our opinion it appeared to be a little under developed as there are large areas of wasteland both adjacent to the beach and inland, where a few more hotels/bars/restaurants would move the resort on a little (although suspect the locals want to keep it low key).
Best bit for us were the beaches which were excellant. Our favorite was the Calla Nova beach, about 10 min walk from the main resort, which was very clean with crystal clear water. Also tried the beaches at Punta Arabia and S`argassama which were ok but a little rocky.
Hippy market was ok, but to be honest you could buy 90% in the resort shops for the same price if not cheaper.
Took the boat ferry to Santa Elulia which was a decent day out with again 2 nice, clean beaches.
Biggest disappointment was the nightlife which was remarkably quiet and unvaried (even for May). The most popular bars seemed to be Apaches (because they were selling beer for 1 euro a pint) and Charlies (because it was the only bar with decent night time entertainment). The only time things seemed to get lively is when the queue was forming for bingo/open the box at Charlies, which just about summed things up for me.
Towards the end of our stay some of the other bars (Popeyes, Nags Head etc)were starting to open up which suggested things would improve towards high season.
All in all, Es cana ia an ideal resort/base for the quieter, beach type holiday.
