Location
Very well maintained brand new in fact spacious and beautiful. It was very clean no mess anywhere that we could see.
The location was awful in the middle of nowhere I would say I suppose that's why they built the complex so big. There are a couple of restaurants on site a pizza place we ate on the first night was good food but quite expensive I thought.
The staff dont really speak much and the rep stays in reception for you to go and see with any queries.
The entertainment is poor an hour for the kids each night eight till nine and believe me it gets boring when your stuck there each night.
The two staff did try but they needed to have more staff and more entertainment on.

Apartments are generous in size with basic but attractive decor and equipment.
Entertainment is obviously a matter of taste but the Thomson crowd were always up-beat & good with the kids, but be warned I believe that one of the evening shows featured a parrot on a bike ??????. We chose not to take up the kind invitation of complex evening entertainment.
Although the brochures make out facilities are close at hand you should note that the main area of shops & restaurants are a good 15-20 min. walk (downhill)via a well lit paved path, this could take a fair bit longer if you have toddlers in tow.
From what we saw you can't pre-book a taxi but have to wait in a queue at the front of the apartments until one turns up. We didn't have this trouble as we chose to hire a car for the week.
This turned out to be a good decision as the island is beautiful with very good, quiet roads and fantastic sights to be found that you can only be found by getting out there.
Overall very good holiday in a good complex on a beautiful island with great weather.

We were delighted with our apartment, clean, very spacious, light and airy. We were on the lst floor and liked this better, as we were able to leave our windows open for a through breeze. There is no air conditioning or fan. You have to hire a fan if needed, however we managed very well with this.
The apartments are surrounded with beautiful gardens, even bananas growing on the trees, lovely flowering shrubs everywhere. Several beautiful swimming pools within the very large complex, plenty of free sunbeds.

Complex is spread over a large area with absolutely beautiful gardens which an army of gardeners constantly keep looking spectacular. The pool areas are extremely spacious and because of this the complex never really seems too busy. Our two weeks included the Oct half term yet there were always masses of sunbeds available throughout the day. Those very few that did creep down before 9.00 to place towels over the beds really did look rather silly. The pools themselves were all extremely clean and the whole complex including the pools themselves were kept spotless by dozens of cleaners.
Yes the largest of the pools is salt water but that really didn't bother us as there were loads of showers on the poolside to rinse under when you got out of the pool. The largest pool has a beautiful fountain in the centre which sparks into life at 10.00 each morning. The only problem were the annoying idiots who, despite the repeated polite requests for them not to do so, insisted on trying to sit on or plant their rubber inflatables over this fountain.
The apartments themselves are very clean and modern. There is no air conditioning and we found it very hot in Oct so I should imagine this is a serious drawback in the height of Summer. Basic utensils/ equipment is provided such as kettle, toaster and microwave as well as a fridge with tiny freezer compartment. The cleaning was OK but nothing special but in fairness we seemed to be provided with ample towells regularly.
I know it sounds rather petty but I did find it rather annoying and penny pinching to find that despite being 4 star you had to pay 6 euro's a day for the use of the TV. (slightly less if you have it all week)
The location is OK but is a little out of town. The walk to the shops restaurants is about 10-15 minutes down the main road but is not particularly pretty. In fairness though after a good meal at one of the many fine restaurants in town the walk home is quite refreshing albeit it is uphill.
Kids clubs at complex were very good and the facilities for kids excellent. The obligatory childrens disco in the evening was also very well run.
There was a pleasant mix of Nationalities at the complex including Dutch, Germans and Italians as well as British and everyone seemed to get on very well indeed.
In conclusion a spotlessly clean, beautiful and spacious complex with excellent facilities. Location won't suite all but not being too near the centre of things had a number of advantages at least for us.
Never said it before but probably will go back.

Staff were always helpful and happy to phone to a taxi for the short ride (less than 3 euro's) to the town.
Supermarket next to hotel is very expensive so if you want to get a quantity of food then go to the hyperdino which as a very good choice and is alot cheaper.
Room cleaned 5 days a week although it was just a make the bed, empty bin and wipe the floor. If you make that much mess and can't be bothered to clean it up then you deserve to live in your own filth.
Gardens surrounding the complex were very well kept and made the place fee very well looked after.
A bit of a walk into town but (about 25 minutes to old town) but it is mainly downhill and the taxi's are less that 3 euro's each way, plenty of them about.
Didn't listen to any of the entertainment so can't comment
Found the reps very helpful and the welcome meeting was not your usual 2 hours of 'buy our trips'. A kids club is available but there was just the two of us. I would say geared more towards the family especially in the summer, whislt we were there not many kids about.
Would certainly go there again.

Large apartment good bathroom and kitchen. We had a travel cot for our 1 year old which was fine and hired a high chair which was a quality Chicco one.
Towels and bedding changed regularly except for the cot which was strange but used spare bed sheet. Cleaning was ok nothing special.
Utensils were ok but no dust pan or brush if you smashed anything and could be dangerous with a small child.
Patio area ok but dusty and baby got filthy on the floor. Plants around the patio to give privacy were not fully grown and little one kept escaping so we could never take our eyes off him for one second!
Can be noisy on ground floor as the furniture is heavy metal and scraps on the tiled floor and the walls are very thin. If you have a little one get a first floor to avoid this plus patios are safer if you block the stairs off with a chair or suitcase.
Would imagine that the rooms could be very hot in the height of the season as no air con but ok at this time of year.
There are single storey units with a ground floor patio and roof sun terrace so its worth asking for.
The grounds of the hotel are lovely. Well maintained and mature looking.
The staff are always tending to them and the whole place is kept very clean and tidy looking at all times. There are lots of bins around that get emptied most days.
The complex seems secure as there are gates that allow the workers in and out but they are always locked after someone goes out of them so even if you are near them you have no problems with people using them to get in and out.
The grounds are watered with partially treated sanitation water as most places are but sometimes the smell can be over powering. I found I had to get up at 06.30 when the sprinklers came on and shut the windows as the smell was terrible. It did not last but I was worried about my little boy playing on the patio after as the water splashed on to it.
The pool areas were great. The larger ones were saltwater and we avoided these but they were wonderful not crowded at all. There were 4 pools in all. Two large salt ones near the main reception and two smaller fresh water pools near to the villas. The smaller ones were lovely with a great kids pool the best I have seen so far. It is about a foot deep in the centre and tiles can be slippy so you have to watch the little kids although that goes without saying.
The tiles are slippy around the pools as well but there are no steep sides and the areas are always clean and well presented with tables, chairs, sunbeds and showers.
No need to put your towel out as there are plenty of sunbeds at this time of year and are free.
The pool bar by the little pool was ok.
Friendly staff who appreciate a try at Spanish. I used a small phrase book and it was enough.
The food was a bit limited but you could take your own food anyway.
Good clean toilets there as well!!
The reception area was pleasant and large for when you arrive and leave.
The reps display was large and informative. Can't say about welcome meeting as rep didn't turn up? but there were always plenty of reps around and lots of kids reps although our little boy was too young to use any of the facilities which was shame for him but he made lots of friends by the pool.
The kids clubs seemed well attended and the reps seem to be working flat out all the time but were young and energetic enough to do it!
The play areas were for kids from 3 upwards although we used it with close supervision. it could do with some smaller kids play areas as well.
We used the main buffet restaurant once and it was 1 time too many. The food was worse than an old school canteen!! I do not recommend it at all. Eat out it is much better and is no more expensive. The waiters don't speak English in there and this was a problem the place was clean but had no atmosphere at all.
We didn't use the bar as the entertainment wasn't what we went for but it did seem popular with families with older kids. Not too much noise from this either but would imagine it could be heard if you were located near to the main reception area so be aware if you have little kids.
Don't use the supermarket next door unless you have to as it is very expensive. There are 2 Nettos on the main road that is directly down from the complex and you can shop after you eat out at night and get a taxi back for 2 euros.
Never had to wait for a taxi need to phone for one if you are going from the hotel into town.
The walk into town will take about 15 mins at a slow walk and is fine. Not very scenic as alot of building work going on but didn't feel the complex was too far out.
There are trolleys at the back door of reception for your bags when you get there.
This is great as the complex is big and with kids in the dark the rooms can be hard to find and quite a walk they are one refundable euro.
There is internet access for one euro for 10 mins but plenty of places do it on the main strip.
Overall good rooms, smart complex, clean, great pools, friendly people, nice atmosphere but terrible food.
Can't have it all.

About 10 minutes walk to centre. complex consists of ten pin bowling alley plus fast food area attached. Very good Italian pizza restaurante, very expensive supermarket. Riu perfume shop, and a ice cream parlour. A lot of units set to open in the near future.
Large salt water swimming pools with a very friendly life guard.
Plenty of sunbeds so theres no need to get up early, and the usual day time activity, ie darts, football ,water polo, killer pool etc...etc...
The complex has a buffet restaurante but having eating their breakfast and evening meals would not recommend the half board basis as it tends to cater more for the italians. its must nicer to walk to town and have a meal in the many restaurants.
Kids entertainment is 8.30 to 9.30 so tended to get back about 9.45.
Pool bar was very slow if ordering meals, because they seemed to be very short staffed ,pint of lager was 3 euros.
the waterpark which is just next store is 18 euros for adults and 12 for kids, please note that as of august 05 it is only half complete.
Had a vey good holiday here and would recommend for younger kids as the entertainment team try very hard.
Apartments are excellent with plenty of room.
What lets the place down is the supermarket next door. with 1500 people staying at peak times and drinks being expensive in the hotel.
There are endless queue's at the tills or should I say till, as they only ever operate with one. Try Nettos supermarket in town which is a lot cheaper.

The staff at the Papagayo were brilliant in providing us with a reasonably priced room, after the reps told us it was fully booked. The whole complex was immaculate with gardeners and cleaners on the go all the time. The pools are superb, the more boisterous kids tend to stick to the top one, so if you want to chill pick the lower pool. The apartment was spacious and well fitted out.
This is the second time I have been there and I will be going again. The 15 minute walk into town is no problem, with great views over Lobos Island & across to Lanzarote, or 2.85 Euro in a taxi.
The hotel was full when we were there and no one we spoke to had a bad word to say about it.

Although the apartments were about 15 minutes walk from the town centre this was a nice walk before and after dinner. Found a good English bar called the Winning Post which was only a couple of minutes walk from the apartments.
Hotel staff very friendly although the poolside bar staff were sometimes quite rude and took ages for children to get served. Childrens entertainment was brilliant - Rowly Powly Schmoley and Super Sarah made the holiday and would definately go back just for them.
Spent most of the time around the main pool where all of the entertainment was - spent 2 weeks trying to win the poolside quiz for a Super Family T-Shirt but was always pipped at the post (do not try and sweek talk Rowly into giving you one as we did as this does not work).
