The resort was clean. The entertainment was boring not much to do as we had already done it before. Evening was quiet not much going on,except new years eve when the place came a live, with a live band and beautiful fireworks.
Everyone in a party mood.
Beach Black sand and a bit windy weather.
Will not be going back for along time as I found it boring with nothing much to do except walk for miles, even that be came the same.

To much dog poo.
I liked the BONO BUS card system which got us cheaply all round the north of the island (so cheaply that on some occasions it was free!) If you travel by bus anywhere in Tenerife, make sure you get one of these BONO-BUS cards - fares are much cheaper (50% at least). They cost €12 or €30 and are obtainable at the GUAGUA (bus) station or at places where you see the TITSA sign.

Puerto de la Cruz is a laid back resort, no all night partying. Some of it is hilly, but taxis are cheap and numerous. The Lido on the seafront provides excellent swimming and sunbathing for adults and children alike (but partially under redevelopment when we were there). Beaches are black sand with Punta Brava among the best. Swimming not recommended for children.

The entertainment is all of a Spanish Theme with small bars. So no karaoke or fun pubs, quite a few night clubs but mainly only locals.

Puerto de la Cruz was really different, lots of history, churches etc and the locals were very friendly. The buildings were really old and you need to explore the little back streets to see the balconies etc, very pretty. A lot of work being done down by the lido at the moment but it is still open and will be even more impressive when finished.
At the bottom of the steps from El Tope on your right is a split level shopping centre, really nice and much bigger than it first appears.
We weren't bothered by the "time-shares" too much as they seemed to be looking for german tourists etc not british.
Good times to be had in the Queen Bee pub (say hello to Hose, Tomas and Angelo) and Beehive 1 (Carlos and Sante).
All in all a great holiday, just a shame the hotel has such a steep climb.

area undergoing a ddevelopment with the Lido area being a cannot miss with large large salt water pools and 10's of sun beds (sun beds free in admission 3.30Euros each Parrasols extra 1.50Euros. The beach WHAT BEACH a bit iof rubish grey looking grit forget it.......
not too many decent places to eat and most were empty so difficult to judge where to eat, but no real bad experiences. I would estimate thjat there was only about 10 - 15% of English people there about 70% Spanish and i found this quite suprising.
DONT EXPECT TOO MUCH SUNSHINE 7-10am no sun 10 - 1 mainly sun 1 - 3 cloudy 3-5 mixed....!!!! but be warned you burn whilst overcast but it is not the ideal sunshine resort

Puerto is very different to the other resorts on the island. It lacks the brashness of the south, there is a much more Spanish feel to it and the atmosphere is very relaxed. There are also less English tourists - we were the only two people from First Choice to travel north.
We spent our evenings just strolling along the sea front, looking at the work of the many artists and stopping off at one of the many bars for a drink and a spot of people watching.
The only drawback with holidaying in the north of the island is the cloud that often hangs over the mountains. Although the weather in July was hot, it was also very cloudy for most of the two weeks we were there. However, don't be mislaid by this - you will still get sunburnt, so be cautious!
There are many restaurants offering traditional Canarian food and entertainment. Shoppers are also catered for with a new shopping precinct and camera shops in abundance.
Loro Park is nearby and a 'must see' for anyone who hasn't been before. Plus the usual trips offered by the tour operators.
If you like a calm, quiet, relaxing holiday, in a warm climate and can cope with the possibility of cloudy days, then go north. If you like noisy bars and boiling hot sunshine, go south!

Lovely picturesque green resort on the north side of the island. Not for the young at heart as there are few discos etc, and may not suit those who have mobility problems either as it is very hilly.
Plenty to do in the area if you choose to. Parrot Park, Botanical Gardens, Banana Plantation and of course a trip up mount Teide. Clean resort: I saw the streets cleaned and washed down every morning.
There had been a festival at the time of my visit with the young locals sleeping on the beach etc but as soon as the sun came up (around 8am) the cleaners were on the beach removing any rubbish.
A lovely resort for a relaxing holiday.
