We have just returned from holiday staying at the Royal Star.

Do not be fooled, this is not to a 4 star standard, it may have the facilities to give it 4 stars but not the service.

If you like to collect your cutlery and napkin and lay the table yourself if you can find a clean table, then you'll like it, if you like veal in breadcrumbs, in a stew, or done as meatballs at most sittings then you'll like it, if screaming kids running around the dinning is your thing then you'll like it.

How about reception staff that's no help at all,or
coach parties arriving night and day making the entrance foyer like a bus station rest room not to mention the continuos traffic noise from the busy main road on which this hotel is situated.

They have made an attempt to upgrade this hotel to a 4 star and have failed, the jaccui is situated at the rear of the hotel overlooking the graveyard, just what you need to soothe away the blues?

If you like to join a queue a mile long to get a drink then you'll like it.

The rooms I must say would be this hotels best feature, and only this would bring it into a 4 star category as the rest is sadly lacking and disappointing, it's more a 3 star tarted up.
So if this is what your looking for and not the usual trimmings and service that a 4 star offers then you'll like it!!!!

Travelled to the Hotel Royal Star and returned yesterday. We had an extremely disappointing holiday. My party consisted of 4 adults, my 9 year old boy and my 10 month old baby. The facilities for babies were nil, particularly in relation to ramps for pushchairs. We ended up carrying the baby up and down stairs continously. The lifts were too few in number, and badly programmed so usually went straight past. We regularly ended up waiting 5 minutes for a lift.

The restaurant food was extremely bad - I enjoy a variety of food but it was difficult to find anything to eat except plain salad. I ended up buying babyfood from the restaurant as there was little for the baby to eat. My 9 year old ate chips and tomatoes for a whole week - and usually is an adventurous eater! The choice of food included such things as undercooked pork, overcooked chicken, dry paella, and other meats we joked were a generic meat product named on the day! The snack bar food was left out for at least an hour - when it was topped up the old food was placed on top of the new rather than thrown away - so could possibly have been standing for several hours. We ended up spending a few meals out, there were some lovely restaurants in the centre of Lloret.

On the first day the card machine was broken so we could not be issued with all inclusive cards, so were issued bands instead. However the staff in the bar refused to serve us, resulting in us needing to ask our holiday rep to intervene.

The drinks were served during the day in tiny plastic glasses, a maximum of 2 per card. This resulted in 1 person being unable to get a round - instead 2 adults and my 9 year old needed to go up each time to get 5 drinks. However the Spanish guests were all given any number of drinks. The wine was heavily watered down and undrinkable. Instead I stuck to lemonade for the entire week.

The kids club failed to open on most occasions, and the one time it did my 9 year old was the only child, the 2 staff in attendance failed to entertain him and he left in boredom after 40 minutes.

The children's pool was situated on a rooftop balcony only reached by 2 flights of iron stairs - extremely dangerous. The park consisted of 2 broken swings, a small climbing frame, and a see saw. Needless to say - not many children bothered.

The games room had more broken games than working games - most were switched off. In other all inclusive hotels the pool table was free - however here it was 2 Euros which worked out very expensive after a few games (I've never found a pool table that expensive in the UK!)

The entertainment was abysmal - most of the time the main bar was only quarter full. However the entertainment staff did their best.

The cleaning staff were fairly good, though surly. However the glasses in my room smelt suspicously of hand soap rather than washing up liquid, so I washed them up myself before using them. The maids varied in efficiency - one would refuse to make up the cot, whereas another made the cot each day. The floor outside near the pool was not cleaned until the next morning, and there were many pieces of broken glass. This meant I could not put my baby on the floor until I had picked up every last piece each day.

All in all - wouldn't go back again!

My wife , my 8 year old son & myself visted the Royal Star hotel on an all inclusive basis from 19 July 2002 to 2 August 2002 and initially were a bit apprehensive as we had not tried out this sort of package before . In addition we had not used Discount Holidays or stayed in Lloret so did not know what to expect . I had scanned the net ( including this site ) prior to going and reviews on this site swayed me from staying at the Royal Beah hotel . Let me say staright away that The Royal Star was a good choice & we had an excellent holiday ! The hotel is well situated in Fenals but is within walking distance of Lloret & beaches at Lloret & Fenals . Whilst it is fairly quiet for such a large hotel the noise of the main road nearby does take a little while to get used to . However the main drawback on the noise front is the constant slamming of doors & loutish behaviour of inconsiderate clubbers returning to their rooms in the small hours this should be borne in mind if you are a light sleeper as whilst the hotel encourages guests ( by a written note in the info pack given on arrival to all guests ) to keep the noise down after midnight & forbids use of the swimming pools after 21.00 the management / hotel security do not actually do anything should any commotion arise . This did cause a couple of sleepless nights & a number of confrontations when my sleep was disturbed so again this may not be everyone's cup of tea . Turning to the food it should be noted that this hotel caters for a wide span of european nationalities and this is reflected in the range of food at mealtimes . We enjoyed most of the food on offer ( there was always a good salad selection , soup of the day , a fish dish , pasta and stew or chicken etc , with various desserts and lots of fresh fruit available too ). If however you only like fast food al la McDonalds / Burger King then this hotel would not be a good choice for you ! The accommodation itself is good & is scrupuluosly clean - I cannot praise the cleaning staff enough - they are the best I have experienced in my many years of holidaying abroad . There are 2 fair sized swimming pools one of which has little or no shallow end and also receives less sun than the other & is consequently not as popular for sunbathers or families with kids . The hotel staff are efficient & generally do a good job but lean towards the surly side in nature - this may be due to the fact that most guests are staying on an All Inclusive basis & because not much money is being fed into the tills the opportunity for tips is much reduced ! Entertainment is the usual mix , some good , some bad . I would recommend the Brazilian Night & the Magic Show - the latter is popular for kids . Conversely I would stay away from the Karaoke night ( the Karaoke machine doesn't work very well & the comperes couldn't run a p***-up in a brewery ! ) & the Flamenco Night is also one to avoid for most Brits although Spaniards & clog dancers might actually like this turn ! With regard to the drinks available I would say clear of the draught lager ( Estelle Damm ) which is even worse than the usual Mediterranean fizzy & I would recommend that anyone staying on an All Inclusive basis sticks to the shorts such as whisky , gin , bacardi . TIP : In order to obtain food & drinks you have your photo taken & placed onto an identity card . The Bar restrict drinks to 2 per adult card & one per child card . However you can obtain 4 drinks on an adult card if you have a photo taken of the husband & wife , boyfriend & girlfriend on the one ID card - recommended as the queue can grow during peak times & only a rocket up the a**e could hurry up the waiters ! Anyway despite the minor gripes we enjoyed our stay & would have no hesitation in returning ( but I'd definitely pack wax ear plugs for the door slamming next time ! ) .

My wife and I are just back from a week all inclusive stay at this Hotel and in the main had a great time. The room was great and the hotel suits all ages with 2 good swimming pools and good location. The only real complaint I did have was the noise during the night, doors slamming shouting , loud talking at 3 or 4 a.m. , but you will get that most places although the hotel did request everyone to try and be quiet after midnight as this is when the entertainment closed. . There was also a drawback with the hotel being near 2 main roads but you got used to the traffic noise. all Inclusive certainly meant that with food and drink available all day with good choices in all departments even a daily cocktail free. The had a no food policy outside the dining area that worked well as the poolsides were very clean and kept that way with the plastic tumblers taken away as soon as you finished your drink. All in all a very good Hotel, close to 2 beaches, close aand far anough away from the clubs at night, easy walking distance to a varied selection of entertainment. The Hotel also had a new policy that you coul use 3 other hotels for free all inclusive drinks and could even have your meals at these hotels (24 hr notice required) They also supplied a great picnic if required for trips. **** right enough.

we stayed at the royal star in june of 2002.The hotel itself is really stylish with big marble pillars and marble floors. The rooms are really comfortable and very modern they have a tv and a hair dryer and are very clean. The hotel has 2 large pools with plenty of sun beds although you have to go down early if you want to get a bed.The entertainment was OK although it is was better for children. The hotel offers plenty to do for the kids like an indoor pool, kids fun room, kids play area etc...Now i have to be totally honest and say that the food is not that great it is very limited in choice there always seamed to be pork on in the evening and the food was not always hot, the snack bar was actually better than the main meals it has burgers and chips etc...The drinks however are really good and the bar staff were always friendly. The hotel could be noisy in the early hours but unless you are a light sleeper this should not be a problem. On the whole this is a nice hotel it is just a pity that the food is not that great
