We didn't see much of the resort as there was no where to go to outside the hotels. We didn,t go to the beach as it was not the cleanest, there was camel dung all over it

The resort of Skanes was not the kind of resort you would go if you want a happening place. It only consists of large hotel complexes and a beach.
The beach was fantastic and very clean and safe for children.

I didn't see much of the resort as the hotel was adequate for what I wanted...... to relax & get sunned.
I went to the beach which was again, very clean & there was lots to do down there.
I will be going back to Monastir so maybe I will see more outside of the Sahara Beach Hotel..........

very central resort and other areas of Tunisia are only a cheap and short cab ride away.

Monastir did't see much of the resort as we spent most of our time at the hotel Skanes Beach.
The Beach was fantastic. Apart from being close to the airport noise it was ok.

The resort of Skanes is very small.
It was perfect for what we wanted, which was a relaxing holiday but not for those wanting bars and restaurants or anything like that.
The beach is lovely - even further down away from the Thalassa hotel, we had quite a few nice sunset strolls down it (the sunsets are amazing by the way) and weren't hassled at all, and it was very clean and tidy.
The resort is ideal for exploring the near-by towns of Monastir to 1 side and Sousse to the other - both of which are worth a visit.

The resort itself is on the whole very good, the beaches are beautiful white sand and blue water, and the beaches are very clean, a bit of litter as with everywhere, no signs of sewage or anything like that.
It’s great bathing for kids, the water is very shallow for quite a distance, and there are lots of fish, shells, crabs and all the stuff kids look for. Also you can get pony, donkey and camel rides on the beach.
Two things I would mention... There quite a few sand banks so just beware that the depth of water can change in a single step, not a lot, maybe a few inches, but that might be enough to scare smaller kids, we did encounter a jelly fish and heard of one lady getting stung, nothing serious and a rub over with a bit of tomato cured the problem, but its worth making note of it.
Our hotel was in between Monastir and Sousse, a taxi ride from both. 6 Dinar (3 quid) will get you to either place. Sousse is busier than Monastir, busier, bigger, and nosier, more hassle etc, etc. Well worth spending the day winding through the medina bartering with the traders, but shop around, it is very easy to get ripped off, bartering can be fun. personally I can't do it very well so I stuck to the government shops (Soula Center) where things had a price sticker on it and you knew where you where. Monastir is smaller, quieter, and a little more laid back, with more site seeing, different shops etc. Both are quite nice to walk around in the evening as well.
Usual safety precautions to take, don't walk in dark alleys at night, keep an eye on your wallet, nothing you wouldn't do anywhere else.
Try and take advantage of the tour operators trips, they can be good, there's camel caravans, quad biking, pirate ship voyages, especially good is the Romans and Pirates day, the mooring at the Roman coliseum and El Jem, followed by a afternoon trip on a pirates ship, which stops half way for a while, where you can leap off the side of the boat or do a bit of fishing. (The kids love this day out)
All in all a great place for a family holiday if you don't want to spend a fortune in amusement arcades and funfairs...there aren't any!!!
