Largest Rooms are in the newly refurbished rooms around the low 2000's. If you have mobility problems let reception know they will try to get you a room close to the bars/reception and no stairs to climb.

Skanes itself was just hotels - but the brochure didn't say it was anything else, so that's what we expected. There was nothing within walking distance of the hotel. We did take the Noddy Train into Monastir and visited the Ribbat and the Medina for half a day. Half a day was plenty to see all that was worth seeing. We had a great holiday, but don't fell that we know any more about Tunisia than before we went!

The resort of Sousse is divided into two categories. The Town and the Hotels. The town is typical of a hot, foreign culture, with sights and sounds which can easily turn your stomach ie a bulls head complete with snot and blood hanging in a butchers.

Avoid the town centre if you are not into a cultural experience. The beach and hotels and promenade have lots of eateries a vast array of local and foreign cuisine. All clean and reasonable priced. A cheap Supermarket Magazine by the picture house is the only one to sell alcohol.

All other alcohol is Alcohol free!!!! The upper end with the hotels is clean, fun and full of shops restuaranst and is very well maintained.

Sousse is definately geared for tourists and mainly male orientated in the hotels, bars and restaurants. We didn't go to the Medina as the haggling and hassle put us off (from previous experiences) I'm sure women would feel more comfortable with more females around the tourist areas.
The beaches are lovely and well kept. The gardens also are well looked after. I didn't mind all the cats around as I'm a cat lover anyway.

To set the record straight from the start, I love Sousse and usually visit twice a year, only occasionally diverting to Port El Kantaoui.

It must be remembered that Sousse is a working town, as well as a tourist resort, which is why some of it is not quite as sparkly as PEK, and the back streets are something else entirely. I think that is why I love it so.

The Medina is fascinating and well worth a visit - don't be intimidated - join in the fun but just be firm if you don't want to buy or don't like the prices. They will accept a shake of the head and 'no thank you'. Try and look confident even if you don't feel it at first. If you really can't bother with haggling just shop in the Soula Centre which has fixed prices.

The beach is great and absolutely superb for making sand-castles. The water is safe as it doesn't suddenly get deep so children can paddle.

Taxis are cheap and plentiful and there is a station at Sousse so you can explore other areas independently and cheaply, also quite a good bus service.

As you can go into any of the hotels you will always manage to find entertainment, though the Casino has been closed for the past couple of years.

The resort of Skanes is very clean, but it is a bit isolated, as the is nothing around but other hotels and one shop.

On the beach there is paragliding, which my husband and brother-in-law tried and it cost 15 dinars each. There was also jet skiing, banana boats, water skiing, all at very reasonable prices.

The beach was very clean, except for quite alot of seaweed the first few days, but when that went, the water was absolutely gorgeous.

I would definately go to Skanes again.

We stayed at the Houda resort at the end of october, there were only three of us staying all inclusive.

We booked in and had our luggage taken up for us, taking in how massive the reception area was. There are no lifts so i was glad someone else helped with the cases.

The room was lovely with a great veiw of the beach
The weather was fantastic we spent much of our time (when not doing exscursions) around the pool, the water polo was great fun.Being all inclusive (this was our first all inclusive holiday)was great as we were able to have as many cold drinks as we wanted.

The food was not to everyones taste but i was able to fill my face at ever meal, the snacks were good to.

The pool area was huge but get there early if you want a good spot, the beach was just as good.

The evening entertainment was ok and I take my hat of to the entertainment team who work all hours and do a great job.

A week was not enough we wish we had booked two as we did not want to leave.

If we came back to Tunisia there is only one place we would stay and that would be here

Sousse is hustle and bustle around the medina and can be a bit daunting. Take care crossing roads. Not all that picturesque.

For a more relaxing report with pavement cafes etc visit Port El Kantoui.

The beach at Sousse has good and bad days some days it is very dirty and I saw a dead cat on the beach other days it is very clean and clear.

Quite alot of bars though, and get the impression they mainly want you to buy food. If you like smokin waterpipes you can smoke them anywhere cheaply so makes up for the dissapointment of the beer.

I didnt really like young men coming up trying to offer us cocaine or weed. The medina was very intmidating I didnt get very far before I turned back and walked away they were selling turtles which was very disturbing.

Definitely wouldn't go back to Tunisia but glad I went for the experience.
