This is a large resort with plenty to do. Cleopatra beach is the nicest of the beaches it has.
The walk up to the Castle and the views you get are lovely. We didn't go the road way, we walked from the harbour side up the hill through the really old houses, it was great, however, you have to be goood on your feet.
Plenty of shops and restaurants and the place has a nice international feel to it.
It is not purely a tourist resort and you don't have to go too far to see the real Turkey.
The Turkish people were lovely and just wanted to talk and learn English with you.
We had a lovely time and will go back one day.

Alanya had something for everyone. I did two good day tours. We were going to do a boat tour and scuba diving but ran out of time.
The restaurants that we went to were really nice - The staff were really friendly and made our evenings great.
The clubs played really good music and were really clean.

This is a small town near Alanya. and as it was at the end of the season there was not much in the way of entertainment. Alanya is a big city with all kinds of entertainment and only 45p away by local Dolmus. The hotel beach was great especially as it was quiet. The cleanliness overall at all the various places we visited was impressive.

We go to Alanya every year without fail. It's one of the friendliest places to go.
There is plenty to do there, with some great bars and restaurants. For the more lively ones there are plenty of discos and you can party the night away till 6!!!
The beaches there are great - not sand but small pebbles and the sea is lovely and clear. You can always get a sunbed on Cleopatra beach as well, and guys come round selling drinks so there is no need to move!!
The food in Turkey is fantastic and kitchen standards are high. I can't even remember a bad meal I have had in Alanya and the service is always out of this world, they can't do enough for you!!
I would recommend Alanya to anyone, everytime we go we find new things to do, with boat trips, trips to the castle, the mountains, the Dim caves and river. Fishing trips, scuba diving, watersports or just relaxing on the beach, it's all fantastic!!
A great place!! I will go back time and time again!!

We've been to Alanya 5 times now and love the variety - from MacDonalds to traditional Turkish cuisine, there's no shortage of places to eat. The bars in the harbour are much more expensive but try the Bistro Bellman or James Dean bar for the club experience. A short walk out of town on the east beach side of Alanya is the New Elvis bar - there is one on the other side of town - but try this one and Murat and the gang will look after you - especially if you're into Elvis [no, he doesn't work behind the bar!!]. Another good place to eat is the Panderosa - watch the guys behind the bar juggling with the bottles and cocktail shakers!
Closer to the Grand Kaptan is a small township called Oba [about 10 minutes walk and easier to find at night as its all lit up!] There are some shops and restaurants to pass the time but try Mitos - a bar/hotel with large screen tv for the football! Mustafa will remember your name after only being told once!
The Blue Parrot in the side road between the annex and the main hotel serves good food and the staff are really friendly but also try the Orange Grove on the next block Omer and Mikail are just 2 of the guys who looked after us. The food is excellent - try the English breakfast if you've missed the one in the hotel! It's true - this bar has the cleanest loos in Alanya. All credit to Ann and her partner who own it!
The beach over the road from the hotel was clean enough - go under the subway from the right hand side of the pool - this passes the sauna and Turkish bath too. The sand isn't very nice though, quite grey and dusty and shingle rather than fine. Be very careful going into the sea though - there's quite a deep shelf into the shallow water which is difficult to get back out of if you're not very agile - and the rocks are very slippy. I should know, I slipped and broke my elbow on our last day!
This brings me [finally!] on to the hospital ... the general manager of the hotel called me an ambulance which arrived in less than 10 minutes. I was taken straight into A&E, assessed, x-rayed, treated and chauffered back to the hotel within 2 hours. The hospital is spotless, the ambulance staff put me right at ease [even sang to me!] and although it wasn't a particularly cheap experience, or how I'd wanted to spend my last day, I can confidently say that if you need medical assistance in Alanya you'll be well looked after! [You can even buy viagra over the counter in the chemists if you need it!!]

Alanya is a gorgeous place . Great for shopping, great for sunworshippers and great for night life. Especially if you go down to the harbour but be extra careful for pickpockets.
Every bar is very welcomming for all cultures . Please try this resort it is fantastic we have made a lot of friends in Alanya in the last 7 years that we have been going, it is like going home now, and yes we are going again in 2005 in August but beware this time of year it is very hot.

the club mermaid beach had too many pebbles and stones and my son found it hard to walk on, the first day we visited the beach i cut my foot on a big rock walking into the water, the watersports were really cheap and enjoyable. The resort was very quiet, and too far to walk to any shops or bars, we had to go by taxi or bus. The resort entertainmenmt was good the two entertainers were really good with the kids, they did the club dance and waterpolo daily and there was also a minidisco and different nightly shows.

Alanya is a fantastic resort for family and couples.
Always plenty to do and see, or lovely beaches to laze on.
Shopping is a must especially in the market, but leave pleanty of time to go through the ritual of bartaring.
The beaches are stunning, very clean with refreshment stands every few yards.
Lots of bars and pavement restrants as well as famous take aways.
We will definatly visit Alanya again

As the hotel was so far out of the main resort and because we had a young child with us we did not have many opportunities to explore the resort entertainment.
The closest beach was a 10 minute walk away, but is not particularly suitable for children and the sea can be quite dangerous. To visit a reasonable beach you will need to take a bus or taxi into Alanya itself.
The main currency in use was Euros, followed by Turkish lire. Pounds were rarely mentioned.
Tipping is required for most services except taxis. In fact, it will help you to tip the staff in advance and in euros to get a better service during your stay.
There are bargains to be had in the markets but be prepared to haggle ( remember the majority of the products will be copies ). Some of this haggling can get excitable and even disturbing to the uninitiated.
