Alanya is quite a big resort which is quite spoilt by all the building work that is going on. It has loads of restaurants and shops and a nice harbour.
You need to go a bit further inland (1-2 miles) to see the proper side of Turkey. Lush greenery mixed with dusty trails. You can get lunch on rafts in the middle of the river which is a great thing to try.
We didn't go to the beach as they looked gravelly, but others have said they are fine.
Other than that, there's not much else to say. Pretty much the same as other Turkish resorts - plenty of shops and restaurants!

Only ventured into the resort twice and was ripped off when buying presents the second time. Bought 5 t-shirts in the bazaar and when I got back to the hotel they had by some sleight of hand removed one of them.
Due to the AI nature of the hotel didn't really explore the town too much.

The resort of Alanya was good but too far from the airport, it took us over 2 hours to get from airport to hotel. Due to hotel being quite far from the centre of Alanya we only went into the centre to shop a couple of times but it seemed lively enough with plenty of english bars, and the people were really friendly. A couple of girls did have a nasty experience down by the harbour when they were threatened by what seemed a homeless man. The beach is not good, it is pebbles, shingle and flat rocks going into the sea, hardly anyone ventured in. I wouldn't visit this resort again but only because of the long journey from the airport and the beach.

The resort was quiet really but with building work( of which did not affect us at all ) going on all around l dont suppose it will be so for too long. The Hotels private beach is stoney and the sea bed seems to be made of uneven concrete!
The hotel also has it's own bar down at the beach where you can still get your free local drinks and snacks which we thought was an added bonus.I can definately recommend to anyone to go the Orient Palace , we will certainly be returning next year.

A building site with what seemed like cat litter on the beach.

Have stayed in Alanya about 8 times, and must say that the beach is getting dirtier the last few years. They need a shake up.
The resort is big and bustling, but if you don't want all that then just go a street or two behind the main road and it starts to get quieter.
Try Taffy's (near McDonalds) to good British or Indian food
They do quiz nights, karaoke etc, and will arrange transport to and from hotel for you. Welsh & turkish owners

The beach is dangerous, theres a strong under current, also a shelf that just drops with no warning.
I had a severe case of upset stomach the day after swimming in the sea! Alanya is an awful resort, british are in the minority here and it shows.
The restaurants are very nice but the waiters that try to pull you in are pushy and dam right rude at times ,you have to be really firm with them,if you have small blonde hair children as I have you will not get a minutes peace, town will be a nightmare.

The resort overall was very hot and sticky you started sweating when you walked outside the room.
As usual when you go to towns in turkey and other places, people are always asking you to got to there restaurants but in alanya they grabbed you and touched and kissed us children which was a real pain!
It was a little bit dirty and some rubbish but it was o.k. Alanya on the whole is alright.

This was our second holiday in Turkey but our first to Alanya. The resort was very clean and tidy, the only rubbish we saw was dropped by tourists!
There were numerous restaurants to choose from and each one had staff posted outside to tempt you in. You need to be firm and polite and keep walking if you're not interested. You may find this annoying but it's part of a Turkish holiday.
The food was excellent in all the restaurants we visited and very reasonably priced. Our favourites were 'Big Ben's', the food and service were excellent with very friendly staff, and 'Ali Baba's' in the shopping bazaar, where again the food and service were excellent and the owner brought us turkish tea and Raki on the house and sat and drank it with us.
The clubs were free to enter but the drinks very expensive once you were inside.
The castle is a 'must' visit but unless you are extremely fit take a taxi up and walk down. The views are spectacular and the shopping from roadside stalls very reasonable.
Shopping in the bazaar is an experience but with great bargains to be had if you are willing to take your time, accept their hospitality and haggle with them.
The market on a Friday is huge with every kind of fruit and vegetable on sale as well as some livestock. Well worth a visit.
The beach was reasonably clean, the litter visible was left by tourists which is unnecessary when there is a bin placed by every couple of sun loungers. The sand is extremely hot and impossible to walk on barefoot.
Overall we found the resort excellent with the turkish people extremely friendly and obliging. We would not hesitate in recommending this resort to other holiday makers.
