Hi,
We are going to Turkey for the first time , in the last week of September, for two weeks.
Staying in Altinkum. We normally go to Greece so it will be interesting to compare.
I have read a few reports about the place but are there any useful tips for us, and what would the normal weather be last week in September - first week in October?
Also, I hear that the currency was devalued in June. Has that made much difference? Is it much cheaper than other holiday destinations now?
Thanks in advance.
My husband is going to Altinkum next week on the 4th September. Can you tell us what are the names of the best places to eat and drink in Altinkum?
Also the most reasonable. Heard a lot of main front places are a bit expensive.
First visit to Turkey.
Thanks
Dawnie-Rob

We found the Grand quite good. The problem is, there is so much choice you could never fit them all in. We stayed at the Kusmez and the food there was fine - if you could make the waiter understand what you wanted.
triton hotel: valentines hotel: the golf :these are all on the main road u cannot miss them. i also reccomend you try friends a little bar up side street from valentines ( try the chefs special meetballs) also turkish restaurant up past migros, food is yummy and a lot cheaper than down town.try the turkish pizza (pidda). always ask price of drinks b4 you order as you will find out some charge what they like.
dolmus are 1ytl all over altinkum.
happy holidays.
we are going on the 1st sept. we have been going twice a year for the last three years. your husband will enjoy it. there are two main beach areas that are surrounded by bars and restaurants and a third beach that has a couple of bars/restaurants.
there is a prom walk on the main beach and a boulevard which leads to the old town of didim, about a twenty min walk away. there are bars and eating places along here but tell him to save himself for didim. there are a couple of places to eat in the middle of the town. these are turkish places and they do absolutely lovely food and cheaper than on the front of altinkum. they also will run your husband back to his hotel or apt. after the meal.
there is a good market on saturday in didim. the veg are as big as dustbin lids.some people were pointing out leeks but they were spring onions. ha.
it is a clean resort and very friendly. tell him to try the toy bar on the main beach area for a welcoming. the owner is called billy and he's a mine of information.a very nice man. the name altinkum means 'golden sand' and thats what they are. the sea is lovely and clear and quite shallow, ideal for children. pinnochios is a good eating place . we took the plunge and bought an apt. so we don't eat out as much . ask him to buy you a gucci watch while he is there (you deserve it if you are staying home). it will only cost him£3 . they are very nice copies.
if he likes a quiet beach tell him to get on the dolmush in altinkum . it will say yesilkent on the front of it. tell him to stay on to the terminus (outside a row of white houses). its only five mins away from altinkum. as he walks down the long path he will see the most beautiful scenery which is the backdrop to the beach.
Thanks for the information, I will pass it all on to my husband.
Awful about the bombs, I will probably worry while he is away. He has said to me he will enjoy his holiday away and won't let anyone doing things like this put him off.
Regards
Dawn
Been to altinkum about 23 times Love it Love it Love it Pay A visit to the swan Bar And the elvis Bar And Characters wich is great For Kids Its Up by the swan Bar and round the corner we know the people who own it !!!!Buzzz
hi luk my mum lives in altinkum its a lovely place only been the once but going bk on 7th sep no bombs gonna stop me hehe but yer altinkum is a lovely place very friendly i rang my mum today n shes saying theres nothing to worry about in altinkum so im going and i will have a good time jojoxx
My husband came back last Monday from Altinkum and had a good time.
He did visit some of the places recommended by HT members and was quite impressed.
Had some nice meals in the Summer Garden and the Four Seasons. He was doing ok most of the week until he went on a boat trip which included a meal. Next day unfortunately he has he described it as "Sultan's Revenge", in other words the trots!!! Still a bit dodgy at the moment, but he is still going to work.
He did enjoy his holiday, his hotel was a bit basic but it didn't bother him about that.
He found the people there really friendly. The only thing what did bother him he saw a middle age chap, who should have known better, a British person, unfortunately kick a kitten.
Shame when one of your own nationality show themselves up as a brute.
Thank you all for all your help and suggestions
Regards Dawn
Altinkum itself was great .although we were all inclusive we did go out quite alot.
the place i liked best was Billy and Lees, its near cresent homes, the shopping centre, and across from elaines chippy.billys served the best breakfast i could find ,with british bacon and sausage.the staff are very welcoming .it also has live football..
all in all a great trip.

Thinking of going the esra apartments next year , can anyone fill me in on the hotel , the area and whats to do & where to eat, usually go AI but dont want to be tied to the hotel.
Does anyone have any info on excursions from the company called Oracle?? They were really good last time we went to Turkey and would like to book some for this time
Have also been looking at flights, we are renting privately, but on a nice resort, been looking at some of the different prices, but would anyone know whether it is best for us to book nearer the time? Is it likely to be alot cheaper?
Any advice on the area, beaches/bars/restaurants/trips etc would be great and really appreciated
Oh and one other thing,is it still quite cheap over there? last time we came to turkey it was still very cheap! wondered if its changed much?
You will love Altinkum I am going back in July for my 6th time,
Adaland is brill but Altinkum has got a waterpark just a short Dolmus ride.
Boat trips are great for a day out and there are loads of bars and restaurants all along the front.
It is still pretty good value to eat out etc, also buying your genuine fake clothing.
I am doing a DIY this time and renting an apartment works out alot cheaper than Travel agents.

Any question feel free to e mail me
I would agree totally with the above post.
Most of the restaurants will pick you up and drop you back at your apartment(for free),you can get a free minibus also to the water park(20 mins max).
In my opinion you would probably be better off booking your flights now, unless you can wait until just a couple of days prior to departure (risky if you have to depart on a set date),try Aegean flights.com they seem to have some reasonable prices.
Cheers!
Think with the flights i'm just going to keep checking every few days and see if anything suprisingly cheap comes up! haha
