The type of bread you get may vary from restaurant to restaurant but generally you always get some sort of bread before a meal.

Lavash is the most common.

I can't imagine Bitez being the only resort in Turkey that doesn't do it!!!

Hmmmmm Enjoy!!! :wink

Hmmmmm Lahmacun, I dream of them!!!

They are so cheap as well!! If you were on a budget, you can't beat it!!!

Also has anyone here ever been to a turkish soup kitchen?? They are open really late and all the workers go there after a hard days graft!!! They sell things like sheeps brain soup, but if you are not that brave they also do Tripe soup which is gorgeous!!!

I know it sound disgusting but once you try it you change your mind!! Also they do the best bread in there, to dip in your soup!!! Bit of chilli oil and you have a great midnight snack!!!

Hi IRMED.. glad you liked TURUNC i'm going back for the third time this year in Sept. & will be looking forward to my fresh SEA BASS with that lovely bread in Korfez restaurant.... i think it's made simply with flour ,salt & water sesame seeds on top and baked in a Very Hot oven.... although it's nice sitting next to the sea while eating... :ghug

Yummy If I remeber rightly it is called Lavas (lavash)

its called lavas (said lavash)..i used to have a restaurant here and we had a traditional wood oven..the dough is leavened..it has yeast. the secret is in rolling it very thin brush top with a little beaten egg and top with sesame seeds and cook in a very hot oven. takes only a few mins to cook and puff up with steam ... afiyet olsun

I love lavas too - can you cook ıt ın a normal oven by any chance?

I could have lived on the bread alone - so soft in the middle and tasty crust. We bought bread from the local shop and stuffed it with cheese and ham slices to make afternoon snacks

Hi
Our friends went to Altinkum in May and were disappointed that none of the restaurants they went to served the Lavash bread that they were used to having in Icmeler. They asked about it in a few places and the waiters didn't know what they meant. Is it possible that it's a regional recipe? I wish I knew how to make it as we all love it. Not long to go till we can have some more :)

I read a few posts and decided to have a go at making it, one post said (i think) it was flour water and salt, got no yeast so used self raising! and i saw them rolling it with a twig (got plenty of those) and flipping it back and forth, so i just mixed a handfull o flour with water till it was doughy and rolled it with , not a twig, but well i wont go into details , but a thin stick, and put sesame seeds on it and shoved it in a hot oven,,,,,it wasnt bad, the oven has to be really hot though,, and it did start to puff up but it was a bit thick one end, (turks have years of perfectin the technique!) with butter on it was ok! quite surprised, kids were grateful as usual said i was trying to poison them, no, that pleasure i save for their dad! anyway proper recipes gratefully welcomed!
