Me too i was supposed to be going in october but have changed today to barcelo fuerteventura

Did you have to pay extra for this change?
When in October where you due to go?

We go in 9 days and I hope it is all fine now, the reviews from August have been terrible and I do feel a bit worried, but hey were still going with camera and notebook and pens if needs be!

I will never book a holiday with Last Choice again after this year due to do to 2 other destinations and it all going wrong and one of the hotels appearing on Holiday hit squad

hi all i wasthinking about changing hols so i checked out a few other reviews .alot of them seemed to be gripped by the sickness bug !! in august so maybe it was not just the hotel .the review i checked out was hotel fuerteventura (barcelo).i staying with this place now as the review from september is good and if health and safety have been im sure its got alot better.

Hi kellie marie
They didnt charge a fee to change but we're now only going for 7 days instead of 10 for about £70 less than we payed for caletta dorada for 10 days, hubby was happy with this as he thinks a weeks long enough were as i wanted to try a longer holiday.
Weve had similar problems, we originaly booked for pegasus palace in turkey the hotel had just opened when we booked about 18months ago. There were then lots of terrible reviews on here, then the hotel was on holidays undercover, then with reports of terrorist attacks and birdflu we decided to change to fuerteventura. I have looked at recent reviews for pegasus and they seem quite good now . I think the problem is new complexes there are always teething problems and first choice often move the guests in even if buildingworks /refurbishments are not complete.
Two things i have learned from this is not to book anywhere which says new for 2006 etc. and not to book so early, we did this to be sure of getting free child places but it ended up being a lot of hassle.
Im sure the caletta dorado will be great when they have sorted out the teething problems.

Hi jennie
I looked at lots of reviews to decide where to change to and quite a few reported sickness bugs and said it was a problem over the island.
quite a few different hotel reviews also reported a problem with ants and stated that the whole island had a problem with them. I suppose what matters is customer sevice and how the hotels handle these things. and if FC have sent people out hopefully these problems will be sorted out as they dont want huge compo claims.
My husband thinks looking at all the reviews on here and other sites is daft and say one persons paradise is another persons hell. i just cant help myself though.

hi, im feeling a lot happier now reading all the last few posts about caleta. in some ways i wish hadnt read any reviews before hand, but you cant help yourself once you start!! only 2 more sleeps for us cant wait!!

p.s i did go into f.c to try and change after getting letter but as i got a good 2 week deal, i couldnt change to anything simular without it costing me alot more.

I wish i hadn't read reviews now TBH , but i am worried , we have been twice before and had a great time but this is the first AI we've ever done, if we get offered a change to the Barcelo i might well consider it(we are going on 14th October)...i'm just confused now :?

Spurry I am going I think the bug has passed now. The bug visited other hotels on the island too.

Have you received a letter stating the changes e.g now 4 bars instead of 7 as you can change based on those reasons., but will have to pay any extra costs the new holiday involves.
We did look into changing but there were no avaliable holidays for the date we go unless I wanted to pay out another £700.

I am going with a positive mind there have been two reports from September that are good but I know what you mean I wish I never loked at the reviews either

We chose the CD because my 15 yr old daughter met a great bunch of kids last year and they are all meeting up this year, i must be honest ,i don't want to change, and as long there is 1 bar i'll be happy let alone 4(that wasn't a consideration when booking). I don't fancy forking out extra cash to move to the Barcelo, we booked last October on return from our 2 weeks there , i emailed Grupo Touricomplex and requested a specific area to stay(by the pool at the CD/section 3 now i think)and they said they didn't think it would be a problem...so hopefully we'll have a great time just as we have done twice previously there in '99 & 2005.
I'm just gonna ignore all the :swear reviews and make the most of it,My wife has also moaned at me(for a change  )for reading the reviews

Hi Spurry
we changed because of the letter we recieved yesterday about only four bars not seven and complex having lot of steps. I have trouble coming down steps due to a back problem and was concerned about some of the health and safety issues with my daughter only being 2.
We ummed and ahhed about wether to change as the complex had some good reviews up untill August and we were really looking forward to going.
I rang first choice to get some prices and we decided to change to barcelo
before we payed aprox £1500 for 10 days AI from 4th Oct (2 adults one child ), now we are going on same date for a week AI and its cost us a bit over £1400 i dont think you get free child places at this hotel so it works out more expensive but this hotel is 4* and a premier and its also close to the beach so its better for me with my back!!. we were quoted 2000 + for ten days wich we coulnd afford so we cut down to a week. not sure if your daughter would like the barcelo as ive heard its only about 30% british we dont mind this but i imagine there will be more british teenagers at the dorada.
We normaly woulnt have been able to change so close to departure but were able to because of the letter and didnt incure the usual £30 per person admin fee. first choice will refund us the difference approx £80 but if the new hotel was more expensive we would have had to pay the difference

Did anybody actually find out what was causing the bleeding and open sores on people?

Some say it was due to no chlorine? So plain water causes your skin to bleed? I'd want to know what bug it was!

My 6yr old son suffered from the blistering sore around his genitals as did alot of the children there. This was due to there being no chlorine in the pool. Towards the end of our second week we witnessed the pool being treated with chlorine and was happy to allow him back in. The last three days of our holiday were very good.
We all also had the BUG, after this we ate off the resort for the remainder of our holiday.

I don't wish to put a downer on anyones holiday as I felt exactly the same before I went. I went with an open mind. I think we were very unfortunate to have the all the problems that we encurred and unfortunatley it has resulted in us sending a 6page letter to FC.
Hopefully FC have sorted the problems out
