Were off the donaire beach in 5 wks time i know you cant use flatables in the pool does this also mean floats to the ones which are made off foam ?
Reply
Hi, just got back from the Donaire - great hotel! I didn't see anyone with foam floats in the pool so I'm not too sure if they are allowed. However, a lot of children had armbands, lifejackets and other float things so if it fits in the case - take it! Kids are allowed inflatables in the kids pool, just not in the big pool. Enjoy your holiday!

Hi Jewel glad you had a great time i have just under 3wks now and so looking forward to it,was the weather hot ? Do you know what day the market is on nr the hotel ? And also did you email the hotel before you went and got the room you liked ?
Reply
Weather was really hot for the whole two weeks. There were two nights out of the whole two weeks when it was a little breezy so I wore a little jacket, but other than that, I couldn't have hoped for better. The market is on a Friday (behind aquapolis waterpark). There isn't loads so don't expect too much but I got a few bits and bobs while I was there - don't forget to knock the prices down! I did email the hotel and ask for a corner room (I heard they were bigger) with a sea/pool view. We didn't get that room but we were on the top floor (8th) and next to the corner room with a fab view of the pools and the beach. No complaints there - the corner rooms are about the same size, they just have a larger balcony (we were rarely on ours)! I would recommend that you do email them and put in a room request. I have posted several comments in the other forums if you need to know anything about theme/water parks, weather, and hotel etc. It is a great hotel though, you should really enjoy it.

Thanks Jewels for all that info, just 2 questions when you emailed the hotel which i have done yesterday did they come bck to you with a reply ? As i havent had one yet, also around the pool or the beach does it get very breezy ?
Reply
No, they didn't get back to me at all after I emailed them so not to worry - they will consider your request I'm sure. The pool and beach were not very breezy at all. You get a slight breeze about once or twice a day but as the weather was so hot, we needed something to cool us down, so it was greatly appreciated!

Hi all
I was just wondering if what i have been told is true. When the smoking ban came in in the uk and everyone was moaning because it never stopped raining, I was told that spain had overturned there ban on smoking. Does anyone know if this is true??
Thanks

I have just been reading the resort reviews and there was a couple of things i forgot about salou (it was 4yrs since we went last) I forgot about the flies and the smell of the drains in certain parts :duh . Is it still like this :que If so and your going in june you will know us if you pass us when having something to eat, there will be four of us waving our arms about like complete nutters to keep the flies away.

I loved salou and it was our very first holiday abroad but i must say i really did forget that bit about the flies and smell and i couldnt stand it :cry

Oh well we are HB this year so thats should be the fly bit sorted and i just wont walk down the streets that smell. SORTED!!!!!!!!! :tup

Hi Kerrie

I went last August for a week and didn't notice any flies. Went August 2005 also no flies. Perhaps they only come at certain times of the year :think

Hi Doe
I hope so. We went in oct 2003 ( i think) sure i am losing the plot :)
When you went did you go to any of the water parks?? We want to take the kids 11/9 but i dont know which one will be best, which one has the biggest slides for instants?
Thanks

Both times I went to the Costa Caribe which is right next door to Port Aventura

But I got this for free as I stayed in theme park hotels each time and you get one days entry free included.

If you have to pay, I would try and read up on the other one as well and then take your choice. I think it's at La Pineda :think

Costa Caribe is fine we enjoyed both our days to it. We spent a whole day in it this year, but I have heard the other one is even better for older teens and has the better slides. What age are your kids, if they are younger they will love costa caribe?

Hi Doe
My boys will be 11 and 9 when we go, the 11yr old has just got into all the big rides so i think he would like big slides saying this my 9yr old is a bit of a dare devil when he wants to be too. Are there only a few big slides in costa caribe :que We never went there when we were last in salou (oct 2003) as only the inside was open and we didnt think it was worth it. We had a 14 day pass for the price of 3 to port adventra and i think it was free entry to costa caribe for 1 day but as i said we didnt bother. This time i really want to take them to a water park. Do you know how long it takes to get to the other one??
Thanks

Sorry Kerry I don't. Perhaps you should start another thread there must be someone on here that knows the name of it. :que

This summer we were two families and had 14, 13, 12 & 11 year old with us and they all enjoyed it.

I dont want to put you off. I just thought it might be 'tame' if they were say 14 & 16 at 9 and 11 they will probably love it.

The wave pool was ace. When the waves are on at the deep-end the swell makes it double in size. :yikes

Two things to be aware of if you are on a budget, they charge for sunbeds and they charge for the rubber rings you can use on some of the rides.

But they probably do that at the other one as well. :banghead:

Kerry,

For us Costa Caribe at PortAventura was better than Aquopolis at La Pineda. That's because it's newer, cleaner, and the rides have lower height restrictions meaning that our 6 year old (then 1.15m high) could go on everything. The PortAventura rides are great for kids and adults alike, the queues are short (quick) and the food and drink prices weren't a complete rip off (we went July 06 and 07). Aquopolis does have dolphins and seals, but we waited ages to get on the rides, and even longer to buy a bottle of water. The rides are good but I wouldn't say that they were any better than PortAventura. Try both - if you like water parks you'll have 2 great days out.

Thanks Doe/harry boat
We have been to port adventura in 2003 but it looks like there are a few new rides since we went. The one that goes up really slow and then comes down in 3 seconds (sorry cant remember the name) My 11 year old wants to go on it :omg I told him if he does i will give him 20 euro (not much i know but he wants to go on it anyway)

I think i will settle on costa caribe as you dont really need to go out your way to get to it and it sounds like a good day out. How come we have to pay for the inflatables to use on the rides :really Thats a bit of a rip off isnt it. How much will they be and i suppose if you dont pay then you cant go on certain rides. They always find a way to up the prices somehow :rage
Oh well it is a holiday and i suppose they know you will pay for it in the end.
Thanks again

Kerrie,

The ride you're thinking of is the Hurakan Condor. Too high for me - I'd want a lot more than 20 euros to go on it!

Re the inflatables at Cost Caribe. There's two ways of doing it.

1. Hire them. They cost about 4/5 euros plus a small deposit. You get them near where the lockers are. If you do it this way, you keep your ring all day and can take it on any of the rides where they're allowed, plus you can take them in the wave pool.

2. Use the supply on the individual rides. You queue up at the bottom of the ride, get a ring, and then hand it in when you've done the ride. You can't take these ones away, they're a different colour to the ones you hire (yellow, I think). Thay also have plenty of these floating round the lazy river. You just wait at the steps for an empty one to come along and jump on. They won't let you take them out though.
We hired them - that way you don't have to bother with any extra waiting around if you go on a busy day.

Hi HB
So if you do hire one you dont have to wait in the queue because others are waiting for the inflatables, is that right :think . Think i might be hiring then.

Thats what its called Hurakan Condor, I can just see his face when he see's it and i am positive that he will back out :omg ( I know i would and i wouldnt do it for 20 euro's either :tut ) But you know what kids are like if they want to go on something and someone is giving you money (no matter how small) then they are determand to go through with it (NOT)

Its funny he has been watching it on Y T (wont let me write the full name) and its got the music too (really dramatic its brilliant) I nearly have heart failure just watching it :yikes .

I am worse than the kids for being excited :hyper
Thanks
Kerrie
