We also always take sterling,as we always get a better rate over there.
I've decided to take approx 1500 Lira and £400 Sterling although £100 of that will just about cover the cost for 2 weeks for the hotel air conditioning (£25 per week), safety deposit box (£15/ week) and £10 each for the tourist tax for the 2 of us.
As I've already got 400 Lira I'll just exchange another £450 which should about do it.
I'm hoping the rates stay pretty good as I don't have the money until pay day which is on 19th August
I'll also take my debit card as a backup but I reckon I shouldn't really need it.

Am in Marmaris now - most exchange offices offering 2.6875 x small shops 2.70 x some places 2.75! You need to shop around!!!
Just called a friend in Icmeler. Is 2.78 from him. 
Seems to be on the rise again, bank rate is 2.832 at the moment...
