Luckily I've never been seasick, not even crossing the Channel in a gale, but my daughter felt ill and her brother and I took her up on deck, where the air made her feel better.
I can't wear flat shoes or trainers as they make my calf muscles ache but if I see Tony in high heals I will certainly take a photo, especially if he wears them with his co-ordinating string vest. :rofl

I think you'll find the cheapest place for duty paid alcohol & tobbacco is Ibiza, its certainly cheaper than Italy & France. But i don't know about Malta
On the ship at the moment of the coast of cuba somwhere. Met up with Chris on the plane. Everything is good here but Internet is expensive so won't be on here very often.
Colin
It's a few years since l've been to Malta, but if memory serves, tobacco was quite cheap in the shops, but alchohol wasn't. At the airport, however, it was all very much cheaper. The problem was that buying it was risky, as it would be confiscated at this end if you were caught with it. Malta was not in the E.U.
That being said, they were willing to sell you as much as you were prepared to buy. I don't know if this is still the case.
Joan.
Nice of you to log in and let us know you are both aboard safely! Did you see the eclipse?
Don't worry about posting in view of the expense! Have a great time and please give Chris our regards too!
Hi Colin & Chris, great to hear from you that you both made the ship. Lap up the sun & enjoy.
I think Malta is in the E.U. now?
Yes Thomas, Malta is now part of the EU!
hi maggsy .are you flying instead of cruising.looks good.did you get my message?i hope our cruising friends are living it up carol
I'm heading off for my cruise soon. I will be leaving home in the early hours of Wednesday morning to get my 10.30 flight from Gatwick. Might not get much time to post from now till then. Good luck to the 2 leaving while i'm away. Thanks for all the help from all the HT'ers.
I am planning on using the internet for a bit on ship, but as its so expensive, i'm thinking of uploading my photos to my website. This will save time compared to emailing seperately to friends and family. If this goes to plan, you can see them and maybe a few ramblings here

Baggage Info
Alitalia has a number of simple rules for hand-baggage and hold baggage which every passenger should know about.
* Every passenger is allowed to carry onboard one item of hand baggage not weighting more than 5kgs on-board.
* Hand-baggage must match the dimensions shown so that it can be placed underneath the seat in front or in the baggage compartments above the seat.
- length 55 cm
- height 35 cm
- width 25 cm
hand luggage dimensions diagram
* Passengers are allowed to check-in baggages in the hold providing that the total weight does not exceed 20kgs (Economy class) or 30Kgs (Business class), however certain long-haul routes have an extra baggage allocation - the specific limitations of your flight will be included on your ticket. Extra weight will be charged as excess baggage.
Please be aware that all airline operating from Heathrow Airport are not allowed to accept any piece of luaggage weighting more than 32kg (70lbs).The new bag limit supported by the Health and Safety Executive is in line with international recommendations.
Before boarding, we suggest that you check your hand baggage to ensure that it does not exceed these maximum dimensions allowed. In the case that your hand baggage is too large it will have to be stowed in the hold as checked baggage.
Due to strict airport security concerning hand-baggage no sharp objects should be packed in these bags.
DO NOT pack the following items in your hand luggage:
* Toy/replica guns (metal or plastic)
* Catapults
* Household cutlery
* Knives with blades of any length
* Razor blades
* Tools
* Scissors including small cosmetic or nail scissors
* Tweezers
* Hypodermic needles (unless required for medical reasons)
* Knitting needles
* Darts
* Sporting bats
* Billiard/snooker or pool cues
* Christmas crackers
To avoid having these objects confiscated please pack them in bags that will be checked and placed in the hold.
5kgs for hand luggage and 20kgs for luggage, do not add up to a lot guys, I wonder how much it would be to upgrade on the flight?
Dizzy
How long are you going for? Isn't 20kg enough for one week? Am I overestimating how much it is? probably!
As I have most of the stuff that I will be taking in October (thank goodness for e-bay) I could pack a case and see how it looks. I have bought a few silk items for both of us as it is quite light and also warm.
Dizzy
Wow Dizzy, you sound very well organised already! Every time I go on holiday I vow never to take so much stuff again. I do cut down and still find I have far too much. October isn't as easy to pack for as June I know!Having said that, one July Canaries cruise proved the point that you never can tell because it was at the time of freak storms there! I have decided on this trip that I will buy something if it turns out to be cold! If it doesn't, all the more room for buying goodies!
I am so glad that my flight is a scheduled one.Charters only give you 15kgs allowance for the hold. I usually am under, as l take a lot of silk, and always decant anything like sun tan cream into those small plastic Body Shop bottles.I need so many different factors, it's the only way.I take a little funnel with me and exchange heavy glass bottles of vodka for tonic water ones.
It is surprising how much weight you can save, although some countries don't seem to care how much luggage weighs. Spain is the best; l have witnessed grown men groaning under the strain of lifting a bulging case on to the conveyor belt, and the tags are attached without even the slightest hesitation .
I have never been to Italy, but surely there is much money to be made from tourists who buy glass, pottery miniature sculptures etc. The country is bulging with priceless artefacts, perhaps they err on the side of generosity.
This is what l shall tell myself whilst "glowing" in the queue to be weighed in for the inbound flight.
Night-Joan
I too pack the lightest things I have. Instead of decanting I buy small sizes of toiletries and just leave behind any I don't use! I hope to have far more important things to cart home! In Spain you can buy spirits in plastic bottles, I have no idea about Italy, or Greece, or Turkey in your case. (What we can buy in Croatia will be limited by Duty Free allowances)If the check in includes the overall total, inc. 5kg of hand luggage, we should be ok, I hope! Should you visit Murano while in Venice and buy glass, don't worry, they will send it to you, for a price of course!
It's getting closer now, just 8 weeks for you!
