Tony, I checked on the internet and -
"Political protests are to be curbed in a half-mile "exclusion zone" around Parliament, it emerged today.
A map of the zone, drawn up by ministers and slipped out in the Commons, shows that it takes in the whole of Whitehall and the London Eye.
Inside the zone, spontaneous demonstrations, even by a lone protester, will be banned"
I'm not certain if Ludgate Hill comes within that area but I think not.
I'll do some more checking though. I was planning a 'peaceful' demonstration to get some form of media cover to the situation which is not really being resolved. The only other protest I have been involved in was the Countryside March and that was peaceful, too peaceful really in that it was under-reported and there were thousands there.
Count me in Mai, I'll even wear my sarong, the DE might look on me as a ethnic minority and so report it as another reason to kick them out, or is that the the Mail. How about Des's retreat in Kent - it should be east to find.
Have you emailed Watch Dog or Business Lunch about the protest yet ?
I can get there by about 9.30/10ish from Bristol, mind you the rail fares hjust gone up to £130 I'm told, If I get a second cruise out of it - it'ss be cheap.
Bye for now
Phil (cell 49)
Two of the people on my cruise only got theirs because they turned up at the paper's offices - and then followed it up a few days later with return visits.
No demos, just spoke to the staff. And, days later, they received their tickets.
Cruiser
If that doesn`t work then we could follow up with a bit more of a presence to raise the profile of this disgraceful situation in the media.
Phil, if it comes to that I could give you a lift up....you`re only in Bristol and I`m near to Warminster so a short (and much cheaper) train trip to Warminster station and I could take you you rest of the way.
Salty seadog stories for 100 plus miles from us both I think!!!
I Don't think this could be classed as a political protest,no matter what the Directors may say!. Mid week would probably be the best time as we could then be assured the offices are at least open!
Will pass on contact details when and if all finalised.
Paul M
We too are getting very cross at the lack of response, did wonder if my last letter was a little too sarcastic, I asked what the definition of "in the near future"was and how much longer I was expected to be patient but have had no reply!! By the way there are two of us who applied, separately, even offered to share but neither of us had any recent news.
We would join forces with HT members if a protest was organised, would be difficult for me in the week though, job restrictions and holiday allocations are always a problem, hence wanting to know where we stand and plan ahead. My friend is retired so perhaps could attend if its a weekday. Anyway will keep checking this site for news.
If you could all post, to give some idea of numbers we could see if its worth 'organising'.
So far, the non cruisers, that have posted, would fit in Tony's taxi
Peter
Because I had various family occassions last year [one wedding, two births] I have suffered in silence apart from sending a few e-mails. My new years resolution is to find all the paperwork, photocopy it and send it all off with a nice letter, followed by a nasty one if I get no response. If you decide to protest on a Mon a.m. of Fri p.m. I could maybe make that a weekend away!!!!
I think I am ready to join in a visit to their offices, perhaps someone will pm me the intended date, as I am away end of Jan.
Hi everyone, I have not posted for a while partly because I have almost given up and partly because I have been away. I would certainly join a protest as long as there was enough notice to arrange to get to London and off work. I have sent letters with photocopies etc. with mostly quite reasonable content and have heard absolutely nothing. I personally would not mind waiting until later in the year but I would like a definite booking. How patient do we have to be maybe they hope we will all die of old age keep posting details of any protest. Maureen I can't believe you are still waiting I thought you had cruised? hang in there we will succeed if it kills us Bye Carol R
good to hear that there may be some action.i am sure if a crowd of those still waiting band together you may be successful.
It looks as if this protest is getting up steam I thought I might take 'Cruisers' advice and visit the office direct. I had thought of going up one day next week but if others would like to come perhaps we should hold fire until the first week in February (weather permitting) and aim to go on possibly a Thursday before lunch. A cheap day return cannot get me into Victoria before 10am and usually it's 10.30am. Then it is the tube to Ludgate Hill and a walk, so aiming for about 11.30 seems feasible. Unless, of course, others want to make an afternoon visit?
I'll keep watching the board and see how others feel.
Ever had a feeling you've started something
I would have liked to have supported everyone who is still cruiseless, but I can only go at the weekend! Never mind, I am sure if enough people can go during the week, you will get the desired result
I am still waiting for my cruise but living in the North East would have difficulty getting to the Big City.
Hi i am still waiting but living up in north yorkshire would be difficult for me to protest. i have written, and telephoned but no luck at all. i havent given up though, off to gambia monday for three weeks and then will be back to start hassling in a big way.
No I haven't cruised yet, at least not with the DE. There is another Maureen who posts as MEH and she cruised back in May/June. She is a seasoned cruiser but chooses the QE2 if she can.
Sorry, have not been on this site for a few weeks. I am feeling I do not exist as D E have totally ignored my correspondence. I have contacted working lunch and also watchdog. Will join forces with you all to demand what we are all entitled to.....our £10 cruise!
Any regional consumer programmes would be worth trying, plus your local newspaper and national papers too.
Your local Trading Standards & your MP should help.
Some people have had success through legal action - would one of them post to explain how they did it, please.
Sorry, I can't make it to London in the week, but for those still waiting, don't give up!
I think we should try to get media interest in any protest.
I wonder why none of the other papers have have taken any interest in this, so far, since they would be expected to seize any opportunity to take a swipe at their rivals?
Has anyone actually contacted any of the other national newspapers?
