I think I am going to get some of the fishing scales, whatever they are.

Think Wizard (Mod) has some that he takes away with him, then you can do your own spot check. I'm sure once we get those out the weight will be OK.

Have a good one bluepeterno1 :D

Have pmed you both so as not to go off topic.

Just got back this morning. Unfortunately Newcastle airport messed up badly and we had no luggage for the first three days for our whole party.

We had to go out and buy a load of clothing and other things to tide us over. It cost us a small fortune, but luckily our four bags turned up three days later. We were just half a kilo over as we were careful when we went and were only there for a week. Nothing was said at all to us when we had our bags checked in at Dalaman.

I am pleased this was not our summer holiday as we are going for 28 days and would have been close to the limit going out.

Jim.

:( My girlfriend has booked for us to go away with my daughter in August. We booked with First Choice via the HolidayHypermarket and she was told to take 3 x £10 notes for arrival at Dalaman. I can only presume it has something to do with this possible scam.....unless someone can enlighten me as this is my first visit to Turkey????????

Apologies if a reply has already been posted - but here is the e mail I sent Dalaman Airport - and the reply I got back is in the next post (not enough room on this post)

I am alarmed to read about people having to pay an excess baggage allowance at Dalaman Airport when coming home from holiday - despite them leaving the UK, and not being over the limit and leaving their toiletries in Turkey and not buying anything whilst on holiday.

Apparently, the people behind the checkout desks at Dalaman Airport are taking excess baggage money of everybody
.
Have you heard of this going on? If this is going on, then I won't be coming back to Turkey.

Thanks in advance

We're the operator of Dalaman Airport Int'l Terminal. There are different responsibilities within the Airport, which are defined by international organisations. Those rules are same in whole World, Turkey, Russia, USA, England, Australia, etc.

The check-in procedure is under the responsibility of the Airline Company and operated by their licensed Ground Handler. The Ground Handling Companies follow the rules for baggage allowances which are defined by the Airline Companies.

So, the "problem" you mentioned is resulted from the defined rules of the Airline Company. If you are not satisfied about that rule, you normally send your complaints to the Airline Company.

I hope this information is satisfactory.

Please do not hesitate to contact me again, form any further question or clarification.

We flew back last night from Dalaman no one at all was getting charged we were not over but most people were and they did not charged one single person

That was with Excel yet last time we were there we got charged £20 just for hand luggage and we know it was not over but we just paid it that was with Onur.

Excel messed up big time yesterday on our return but thats another story i'll put review on when i recover from our Dalaman experience :D

There're are people who post on here who tell us this doesn't happen (some of us know better).
No matter how many of us have experiences of being ripped off at Dalaman.
Those of you who say it doesn't happen A) No smoke without fire & B) Theres a lot of people saying the same thing. & C) It seems to be one airport in particular, does that alone not indicate that something "fishy" is going on at this one.

There are five of us going and I have paid for an extra 5 kg for each of us. The problem is that most family cars can only take a couple of cases. My husbands ancient Peugeot 406 has a massive boot but will still only take two cases and a holdall and then one case goes under the kids legs.

This year however, I have a new Xsara Picasso and it has the benefit of quite a decent boot space and height as well which the peugeot doesn't. Anyone know how many cases fit in a Picasso?

If you believe the adverts about 134 cases with room left over!!

I get four medium size cases (28'') in mine with the parcel shelf insitu, so you should get 5 with the shelf out.

Hi just to let anyone who is still worried about overweight cases coming home from Dalaman.

I have just received my set of luggage scales from ebay today. They were 9.49 with free postage. Very good, up to 40kg and very accurate.
Do not be tempted to buy the cheaper fishing scales, as the accuracy cannot be guaranteed, so a waste of money for weighing luggage.

In case anyone is interested here is the link

Think I might set up a stall at Dalaman and charge a pound a go, could be quite profitable  :rofl
