:D hi all, my wife and i have always brought rolls and drink from the local shops before we leave,as we too dont like being ripped off,i think evrey body should boycott the air port resturants and shops, except for the duty free ones, maybe then they would lower there prices, but i cant really see that happening

we were not being ripped off either and as we had a 5 hour delay, first choice verykindly kept us in the resort. Instead of picking us up at 2.00pm they picked us up at 6.00pm and we were able to have a really big meal at the hotel first then take some cakes from the tea time buffet. We also bought some crisps and pop from the shop, no way were we going to be ripped off at the airport. Didn't buy a single thing, not even anything from duty free...

agree with the posting above, I know that burger king in glasgow airport is the same price as any town centre burger king , thought mc donalds was the same price wherever.

I saw a woman at Dalaman on Friday, pay 18 lira for 2 cups of tea ( in polystyrene cups) and then she left a tip in the box.

Just returned and a warning about the prices at dalaman airport mcdolalds 12 quid a meal,2 quid for a small bottle of water, 8 quid a pint, ect, ect, no seating areas except in cafes. They are set up to get the last penny out of you before you get home. Then when you finally get to your departing gate you are baked liked a chickin in a oven because there is no shade from the sun.Putts a damper on a really good holiday it needs to be sorted.

It's a pity you didnt read this Topic before you went Pete is it, It's the same for us all at Dalaman Airport im afraid, You could always pay extra money to go into the VIP Lounge, Where you will get Air condioner on all the time, But you cant take that to the departure gate, Note you can smoke in the departure gate and you can use the Toilet and the shop, But remember your going to be ripped off bigtime, On the subject of the sun, When you passed through passport control if you turn right beside the duty free and head for the seats you wont find the sun.

Just a reminder to everybody comming home from Dalaman Airport, make some sandwiches up,or bring snacks, you can bring drinks in your hand luggage ,no security problem as on departure from UK,prices at airport are so high, you will believe it when you see it!!!.This is good advice!!.

After checking in your suitcases, turn around and go down the escalator to arrivals, and leave the airport. You can now use the cafe outside which is half the price of food and drink inside. You will have passed it on the left, just over the bridge, when you arrived.
Then take the escalator back up to departures (walk back to the exit doors, don't go in - not allowed - but turn left and the escalator is ahead and right slightly). You will have to go through the scanners again, but thats not a problem as there is hardly ever a queue.
But don't tell anyone!!!

Last week in the bar in Bodrum airport I saw a man pay 25 lire for two pints of efes

I went through Dalaman in the early hours of this morning and I was amazed at just how many people were buying food and drink, seemingly irrespective of the extortionate costs.

One cheeky young Turk (I think he was on the Pizza Express stand) actually had the nerve to shout "best price!"

We took some snacks but as it was a late flight and I'd already had a steak to fortify me, I ended up not actually eating anything on the return trip.

i also think the prices are too high but saying that i still pay them, i look at it this way ,,the prices are high but then again i have payed nearly as much when stopping at motorway services in england ,also if you have lira left and are not returning again that year why not use them up lol they will probaly get lost at home anyway  i have been too dalaman 5 times this year and are returning early hours monday ,each time we have been we have left liras at home amounting to around 60 lira in small change(i will take them this time) also ,21 lira is nearly as much as 2 tia marias and coke in resort.i have had mcdonalds in dalaman and was grateful because when we got called to the gate we were delayed 4 hrs, after being in airport 3 hrs ,1hr 40 mins transfer i was glad i had eaten  so sometimes paying that £8 for a meal doesnt seem that bad ,with children i know it can work out expensive but if you keep all youre 1 liras change during youre holiday you will have more than enough to tip the maid and buy a meal  after all either you go hungry or thirsty because theres no chance the prices will reduce and i dont think a boycott will work ,xx jan

Very true about spare lires, I suppose it depends though on whether you plan to return to spend the rest! :D

Good tip about keeping your spare lira,i always keep my spare change in a drawer and then at the end of my holiday give it all to the maid who in my eyes do a fantastic job for next to nothing. Our maid this year was there everyday, she even washed up for me when i left some in the morning which i didnt expect her to do,such a lovely lady 8)

What are these "spare lira" to which you refer? It's not something I generally have at the end of a holiday

Actually we really didn't have any spare this time. Maybe it's psychological, but as the exchange rate fell throughout our holiday and we got less lira every time we changed up some money, so we changed smaller amounts towards the end. I paid for our final evening meal in Icmeler using sterling as we were out of Lira and that was that.

I did notice that prices have gone up quite a bit since we last went to Turkey a few years ago. In fact I'm sure that we have found supermarkets in Portugal and Spain recently that are considerably cheaper than Turkey for holiday essentials such as local beer, wine, brandy etc.

Cheers.

spare liras are like spare uk coins ,all my small change under £1is put in a bottle at home and i do the same on holiday, taking the odd few liras for dolomush, we always have loads left no matter what the exchange rate is.sometimes the exchange rate is not worth bothering about its only a point something anyway not going to make a big difference,we always use the bank machine anyway for a better rate, like i said i have around 60 lira here at home which was left over from other holidays this year so i will be taking them ,i agree you do seem to be getting a little less for youre money this time but theres nothing you can do about ,i too tend to compare with other countries such as goa :P but it doesnt help  cant spend my ruppees in marmaris  xx jan

Goa - now that's somewhere my girlfriend mentions from time to time as somewhere she would like to go, although I haven't seen any affordable (for us) deals when I've looked.

Regarding the falling Turkish exchange rate over our holiday, the difference was getting around £8 less Lira when changing up £100. It may not break the bank but it did also have some Turks moaning. Our local shopkeeper wasn't happy as he apparently had £8,000 in sterling that he couldn't afford to change up at the bank unless the rates improved again.

Cheers.
