Yes I think its probably a mixed between plain ignorance & some people just love to moan about everything & anything and sheer jealousy 'cos they aint going nowhere'.

Some people were complaining but it turned out these had paid brochure price and probably expected more from a 3 star hotel than we did.

oh don't i know this one.... they don't know the difference between a t/o rating and an official rating,, so many times when talking to other holiday makers i have had its not 4 star i payed for,, so i point out that apart hotels in Greece/Cyprus are rated a to c +tourist and this hotel is a grade B [and say roughly 2-21/2 star] all i get is ar thos cook/thomson/etc etc sold it as a 4 star, then i get into the argument it was sold to you as 4T's/suns etc not stars but most wont listen and again most have never been on an independent forum. . .. their loss but will they learn..NO they wont

Sorry, off the thread but..
Brian - Can you tell me what a hotel has to have to make it a 4 star because we have been to 3 star hotels and some are better than 4 star. We always thought it was having an indoor pool and a bidet (in the bathroom!)
Thanks

I personally find I get more information from the photos people post on review sites than from the actual reviews but then I'm usually looking at access issues for us as we are disabled.

The one thing that does get me a bit annoyed is that whenever I mention that we holiday in the Caribbean most years people seem to think I'm showing off. :que when the fact of the matter is that we prefer to holiday in our winter months, to avoid the cold weather here, and our two weeks AI usually costs us less than going to Europe in peak season.

(But please don't tell everyone or the prices will rise :zip )

:offtop sorry folks

official rating's are issued by the country they are in, there is no international standard, but they will normally grade a hotel on things like quality of lobby quality of fitting, size of rooms and facilities 24hr reception, food/drink availability and quality, decoration and the quality of staff, TO'S will usually upgrade a 3 star to 4 or even 5 XXX because it has a pool, a children's pool, a play area, [the biggie children's club] and other ancillaries

in Greece and Cyprus apart hotels are graded A to C with A roughly equal to 3+ and c =1+ and a further classification which is gradually disappearing Tourist accommodation however i know several class A which had they been hotels would rate 5 star

Thanks Brian.
Back on topic now - What about Easyjet etc where you get on the bus to get on plane and people are pretending to be on the phone and standing off the bus so they are last on and first off - therefore getting the best seats!!!!
I would prefer to be allocated a seat when checking in so there is none of that! More relaxing.

LOL The other thing that is annoying is when you are at the boarding gate at the airport and the staff call you in a specific seat order to make boarding easier, but people whose seat numbers haven't been called go up hoping to get through more quickly and therefore block the gate and cause confusion when the staff turn them away telling them to wait for their own seat numbers. Why don't they just wait to be called ? :que The staff are loading people in a specific order for a reason.

I sound like a real moaner now but what about the people who sit in front of you on the plane and they put their
seat back - without even asking you if you mind.
I once asked the flight attendant to ask the person to put their seat upright as it was so uncomforable
for me and she said "I can only do that when the food is served so I suggest you put yours back too"
I said that I would not dream of it as it would make the person behind me feel the same as me.
Imagine if everyone did that!

Suzie,PM me if you want to avoid the seat in front of you going back!

I had that problem last year on the flight home from dalaman. The flight attendant didn't even ask her to put it up when we hit turbulence and everyone had to put their seat belt on. to say i was annoyed would be an understatement.

Someone tried to shove their seat back on me once when I had my baby on my lap, I was not happy about that. Luckily they moved it again but I would have caused a fuss if they hadn't. Some people are just so inconsiderate!

I have never understood why people all rush to get on the plane before their seat have been called, they have a seat number it's not as if the plane is going to go without them.

He he Im just laughing as this happened to me just last week on a flight to Liverpool - as soon as the flight was called they all jumped up and stood there queuing for half an hour - some holding heavy bags. I just waited till the queue had gone down and walked straight on..............I mean I'd checked in so it wasnt as if there was no seat for me!

I can sort of understand it on flights with no seat allocation and folk have young families - but folk travelling on their own were also doing it............ah well takes all sorts I suppose :sun2

I know, it's daft isn't it?

I too don't like people putting their seats back but to be honest, the facility is there for them to do so, if they want their seat back then they shouldn't really have to ask the person behind - it's the fault of the airlines for their space issues not the passenger.

Having said that, I was coming back from Turkey one year, we were in the row behind the emergency row and cramped as anything - the guy in front spent the whole journey with his seat back so I could barely move, despite being able to stretch his legs out in front of him like he was lying on a deckchair or summat. Tsk.

I always laugh when everyone jumps up and queues for ages too, what is that all about? We wait until the queue has gone down too then we just calmly walk straight on, saves a lot of uneccessary standing about.

Another one that makes me laugh is when you get off your flight and there is a rush for the conveyor belt! And you get families all lined up about 5 or 6 in a row waiting for their cases - why do they need 5 or 6 - then the rest of us arrive and there's no space to stand - meaning you are popping your head from behind above everyones shoulders trying to spot your belongings and try to nip in on time to grab them! :really

and theres always a little child who decides to have a ride on it - meaning the thing shuts down for ten minutes :D

There was one woman last year who managed to slip past the staff at the gate for the flight when they had called the first lot of seat numbers out. Silly cow created exactly what they had been attempting to avoid, ie. she's on row 10 or summat and blocking the aisle putting her stuff in the overhead lockers etc. and every single other person getting on was head for the back 10 rows. So everyone had to stand there waiting for her to sort herself out before finding their seat. :duh

I'd forgotten people who get on and recline their seats from the moment the seatbelt light goes off time it goes back on for the descent. :duh

That happened to me coming back from Sharm, he was not going to put it up as he wanted to sleep, I watched the TV with my nose virtually touching the screen!! :(

Another one - why do people put their mobiles on as soon as we land when they are clearly asked not to do so until inside the terminal AND undo the seatbelts before the engines are off, they are obviously going to get their luggage before the rest of us :que

I remember one year waiting patiently for the queue to board to go down before I joined it and being one of the last ones on the plane. I won't do this anymore as when we got on there was no room whatsoever for our hand luggage or coats in the overhead lockers above our seats. The stewards found some space half way down the plane for our stuff. So for that reason I DO join the queue now but only when our seat numbers are called ;) Wouldn't want this to happen now with the amount of 'stuff' I have to take with 2 kids in tow!
