We are flying next thurs LGW to LPA with Thomson we fly at 1935, on recent weeks does anyone know how bad the check in and security queues have been?

Should be pretty dead at the time, at both check-in and security. I'd say fifteen minutes max from joining the check-in queue to being in the departure lounge.

Yes, premium service will give you a seperate check-in desk, which at that time should be fairly light. They won't get busy until around 6am on a Friday.

Does one still have to remove one's shoes at security?! I'll most probably be wearing flipping great walking boots which take forever to undo and do up again! :duh

Mind you, as they have metal on them I guess I'll have to remove them at the metal detector point anyway??

I depends on the airport Pippy. I would say yes although hubby didn't have to remove his, but I had to remove mine last time we flew from Aberdeen. I asked security why that was and she said it was random, but every other airport everyone had to remove their shoes, belts and jackets.

When we flew from Gatwick last year we did have to remove our shoes and I think they went through the x-ray machine with our hand luggage, if I remember correctly!

we did in may, it seems luck of the draw.. some times they will ask and others not

Hi Pippy,

South terminal doesn't always make all passengers take their shoes off, but at North terminal all passengers have to take shoes off and put them in a separate x-ray machine.

I am flying into Gatwick South and need to get to Heathrow, the terminal BA use, 4 is it?

Whats my best way of getting there please, I will be travelling with a 20kilo bag plus hand luggage and laptop. No doubt the suitcase wheels will have been smashed to pieces on the flight into Gatwick so I may have to carry it.

Thanks in advance, John.

Thanks for your replies :tup

I'm flying from the South terminal so maybe I'll get away with leaving them on.

I sincerely hope not! I doubt I'd be able to skip in my big, clumpy walking boots!

steview or anyone who can help,

Are saturday mornings at the thomsonfly/FC check in desk at gatwick busy? We are flying to Cozumel at 10.30am and want to check in around 7am. Would it be ok to do this and will the check in desk be open because I am guessing there are a few flights before ours?

Thanks

xxdaniellexx,

It is recommended you check-in at least 3 hours before your scheduled departure time for long haul flights so 7am is fine. The desks will be open from early morning. Expect it to be busy as there are 4 other flights due to depart around the time of yours and several others before / after.

Hello,

Is Gatwick Airport busy on a Monday morning? flying out to Luxor at 9.45am on 13th October with First Choice, have never been to Gatwick before and planning to check in around 7am, do you think this will be o.k? Am not sure what the check in desks and passport control queue's will be like then so want to leave enough time to get through, get a few items at duty free and try and relax a bit before boarding the plane (nervous flyer). :cheers

Thanks.
Suzie.

suziesuze,

Gatwick airport is busy every morning!! Most airports are at their busiest in the morning with international flights arriving and departing. It is recommended to arrive at least 3 hours before your flight at LGW.
