Hi everyone. Me and my friend have booked a 4 nights break in Majorca (flying with BMI Baby) and decided that we would not pay the extortionate sum to put our luggage in the hold :tongue . We are allowed 10 kilos each and just wondered whether we are allowed to put liquids in there (you know the sort of stuff; shampoo, conditioner, make-up, suntan lotion). Any advice very much appreciated. :glynis

All liquids still have to be put in clear plastic bags that can be re sealed. They also have to be less than 100mls - so just travel sizes really. We've found the best thing to do is buy at the airport after you've cleared security. We don't usually have much left to bring back so leave them for the maids in the hotel rooms.

Small sizes of liquids only, each can only contain up to 100mls and the grand total can't add up to more than 1000mls. They must be carried in a small resealable see through plastic bag measuring no more than 20cm x 20cm (approx 8" x 8") this has to go through the xray machines at security seperate to your other hand luggage.
No large bottles are allowed in hand luggage even if they only contain a small amount of liquid.

I'm sure one of the mods will post a link that shows exactly what can be carried in hand luggage.

Edited for missing words.

Sorry Helen, I was typing as you were posting. As Helen says best to buy after security if you need to take a lot.

The link to the hand luggage regulations is HERE in the flight forum

To be honest I always transfer less used items in 100ml bottles and then buy the larger items like deodorant and shower gel airside and then there's no problems. We usually share this between us and leave behind what we don't use

Remember that nail files and nail scissors are not allowed to be carried in your hand luggage during the security screen - having seen three of each being confiscated at Geneva airport this weekend!! Emery boards seem ok.

I've had emery boards in hand luggage and nothing was said. I've also had my travel jewellery box including earrings in hand luggage and nothing has been said. The only things I've had problems with was getting electronic goods through security at Belfast International, May last year due to Easyjet opening check in 20 minutes late and then having hand search of bags at security due to electronic goods, hubby and I had 30 minutes to get something to eat before we had to be at the gate. When we go to England April/May, I'm going to put my electronic items in a clear bag and put it at the front of my bag. Reason being that hubby and I have twin girls who'll be 5 months old and I don't want any delays especially as it's looking likely that feed time will be before getting on the plane.

Can I take it that electrical chargers are allowed in hand luggage as my life seems to be taken over by them and there is a big heap to take with me

I haven't had any problems when I've had chargers for mobile phone and other small electronic items in hand luggage.

Few times have not even been asked about liquids in hand luggage even though they have been in correct amounts and bagged! It does seem that half of my luggage is made up of chargers for various electrical equipment!! On a return flight from Mexico few years ago I "lost" my i-pod charger from my checked in bag which was not locked! I now always carry them in hand luggage and never had any problem on check in. :)

Thanks for the replies, I have allways put them in the case but would like to do few days trips and only take hand luggage.

Just wondered would you be allowed a pair of boots with stilletto type heels in your hand luggage? I only ask as I will be travelling next month and for the first time I will be taking hand luggage only. I didn't really want to wear the boots while travelling but will do if they arent allowed in my bag.

ScubaLeanna,

A list of prohibited items are shown on page 1 for reference. Boots / shoes are fine.

Usually you can buy mini sizes of most toiletries in Boots and Superdrug but I'm not sure whether they are available so early in the year. You might be able to buy some small containers and decant from your full size containers. If you have to wait till arriving in Germany to buy supplies the shops DM and Müller usually stock small sizes of many products.
Don't forget that toiletries have to be placed in a 20cmx20cm transparent plastic bag.

Tesco or Asda have most of what you'll need, just put them in a bag as suggested, that is what we did last year when we went to Spain for 4 days,no problems with it.T.
