You might be OK I put my hubbys birth date down for the 12th of the month when it is actually the 11th, I didn't notice until I'd sent the forms off.

No problems at all they came back after ten days. It was never queried.

I'm not too worried but I'll be relieved when they come back

Can anyone tell me if you can still go and collect your visa in Birmingham in person, if so, is there a specific time?, do they still only allocate 200 tickets a day? thank you :)

The problem with making mistakes is it seems so hit and miss as to whether they notice. I put down the wrong passport expiry date on the online form, and it was one of the details you couldn't change.

I didn't know whether to point it out to them, or hope they didn't notice. As it was I did email them, and was told to cross out the error on the printed form and sign along side it. Just to be on the safe side, and to avoid refusal, I printed the email and added it to the items I posted, and wrote on the checklist that I had enclosed it and why.

I'd love to know if they put as much attention to detail into reading the forms as we put in to completing them!!!

We took our passports into VFS office in Edinburgh for our visas on Friday 6th.
It's now Thursday and they're still not ready. :duh

Just glad we're not in a hurry. :)

Hi Dawn
I think you're talking about the old system where you could call in person to the CGI Birmingham and get your visas the same day.

Visa applications have been outsourced to VFS, here's their website:
http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/

You can no longer get visas on the same day, although you can submit them and go back a few days later to collect them - but only at certain centres.
Other centres accept applications in person but return them by 'secure post'.

All postal applications go to the Hayes centre.

I think crossing the 't's and dotting the 'i's for anything to do with India is a good idea.
You never know when bureaucracy is going to kick in.

In the 'olden days' when wanted postal orders we used to buy 2 x £30 instead of 1 x £60 (even though the poundage was more) 'just in case'.

Is there still a section asking for referees in India? 5 years ago I put the rep and the British Embassy, recently, I've just put N/A and its gone ok. Any change on that this year ??>

still got the indian referees on the application, NA was enough last year & I've put the same this year, I don't expect any problems

I usually put details of where we're staying and the Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, although I believe that NA is accceptable for this specific question.

Don't put a slash (/) on the on-line application.

Posted on Sat morning at the post office to arrive by midday on Monday - received back on the Thursday !! Fantastic service!!

Checked online tracking of passport with VFS Edinburgh and they were ready late afternoon today.
That makes 5 working days to process visa - 7 days since dropped off last Friday.

It used to be done on the same day at the Consulate office and with no extra charge! :duh

Thanks for the replies to the Indian referee query. - Well, the online application isn't getting any easier...worth mentioning that once you've entered all the info for all applicants, it takes you to a screen VERY like the initial one, so, for one awful moment you think you have lost everything and been switched back to the beginning again!! ...but, it's OK, this one leads to the printing / payment bit.

Yeah I'm glad it's out of the way with - I also made a mistake - put a wrong digit in my passport No. :yikes

It was too late to modify my application as it was paid for but I managed to download the pdf again, edit it & now my application form is now in line with my passport - I've emailed them to explain that the payment/receipt shows the incorrect passport number :whoops

Fingers crossed they're understanding

Got our passports & visas back today! All OK, even though I tried my best to c*ck it up!
