Hi to everyone who is going to Margarita on 28th sept 06.
We are going to get married, we are staying at hes playa el agua.
We have had a bit of a nightmare. We were informed last week by first choice that there is building work going on at the hotel. So I changed hotel to go to Laguna mar but then found out they too are having building work carried out. So now I have gone back to el agua as every other hotel is fully booked.
I just hope it doesn't cause too much distruption to our wedding.
As anyone been there recently love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Maryann, sorry for not getting back sooner. I've been on holiday. If your question was addressed to me, re Angel falls trip then we went with Marcos tours. He has a hut on the beach of The Dunes Hotel, but it is better to contact him by e-mail before leaving for Margarita and he can contact you in your hotel when you get there. He is Excellent, nothing is too much trouble.

Thanks for your help - do you think this would be cheaper than going through the hotel rep?

We've just returned from Margarita yesterday and booked tours with Marcos. We didn't contact him prior to arriving but spotted him on the beach at the Dunes hotel on our first morning.

We did the overnight Orinocco/Canaima/Angel Falls trip and saved £25 per person and the Landcruiser Safari and saved about £7 per person compared to the prices offered by First Choice. From speaking to other guests we gather that the trips were the same as those from the Rep.

I am booked for laguna mar 28/02/07. Just received a letter from first choice saying building work is behind schedule and rather than finishing December it will finish end of April 2007.

It says they have demolished the guacuco bar in order to make way for a new restaurant. and are reconstructing the bar at the other side of the pool area.

Can anyone tell me is this just a pool bar and is it beside a normal pool or one of the feature pools. Any advice on where to request a room so we are not affected by the building work or is it that bad we should ask for a change of destination?

Would be grateful for your views.

Take a look at the hotel's webpage and you can see where this pool is and the size.

You just need to select the English version.

Hope this helps.

P.S We are going on 31st Jan for 2 weeks

You could also try asking about the Lagunamar on THIS website as I know there are many posters on there who go regularly to MI and are a fountain of knowledge.

Hi karen,
Have you found out any other information on the reconstruction of the pool bar? I am a travel agent in Lincoln and have some clients travelling to the laguna mar in April 2007. The only information ive got from First choice is that the building work doesnt affect the pools water slides etc and is still at its construction stages at the moment. I was wondering if you have gained any other information so far?

Would be grateful if you could let me know

Thankyou

Hi Amy,

First choice letter states - they have demolished the guacuco bar in order to make way for a new restaurant. At present the management are re-constructing the bar at the other side of the pool area which is situated next to the south tower. The project was due to be completed by 31 December 2006, unfortunately it has fallen behind schedule and it is now anticipated to continue until the end of April 2007.
Although the management of the hotel are unable to guarentee rooms will not overlook the workthey and the resort staff will do their best to ensure you have a fabulous holiday.

I have been on their website, maryann has sent a link above. On there it has a map of the site and it looks like it is just a small pool.
There is also their reservations email on that site and I have emailed them to request a room in the north tower, but as yet had no reply.

If I find out more I will let you know.

I also emailed the Laguna Mar but not received a reply. It might be a case of asking for this on arrival! I'll put a message on here when I get back mid Feb to let you know the situation!

Perhaps anyone going before this time could do the same so at least we know what to expect!
