Well i have took the plundge and booked for the Laguna Mar Hotel next july (2007), with first choice. They had a deal on as well if you booked there star class premium service, thinks its 36inch leg room.

Eclipse ( as usual ) came back with a very good price for 2 adults 2 children in a junior suite with all of us traveling in the star class premium seats, it came in about £4,200. Which when you consider there is 4 of us and its all inclusive etc, you can grumble at that.

The web site for the hotel is : - http://www.lagunamar.com.ve/ZZZ/08/06440/Home_eng.htm

There is lots and lots of information on there

I did price beaches up, but at nearly £7,000, well could not justify the money ( let alone pay for it ).

I am looking at booking a holiday for next March, Margarita seems cheap compared to other places, is there a reason for this should it be avoided.

Thanks for any help Karen.

Hi Karen
Have you read this thread?

Margarita is slightly less developed (and in my opinion all the better for it) than some caribbean destinations.

There is a lot of information already on this page

You will also find lots of info on thise site http://www.margaritaislandguide.com/phpbb/index.php

I have some photos of MI here http://community.webshots.com/user/kiltmangraham

MI is excellent and I would highly recommend it.

Thanks to all of you, thats very helpful and I think made up my mind. We are going to book laguna mar for 28.2.07 Just a couple of things, please could you confirm it is hot in february, any excursions recommended and I know it is adviseable to have vaccinations but I hate them and wondered if many of you go without?

Thanks again Karen

Oh and does anyone know if the casino in laguna mar is ok for a bit of fun or is it serious gambling?

Went to LTI Costa Caribe last year and had a fab time, we're staying at Hesperia El Agua this year. I had loads of jabs last year and they now last for 3-10 years so i've not had any this year.

thanks for that suppose I had better take the plunge and get jabs done. I have been to barbados and cuba without jabs but think they may be more essential for Margarita.

Hi Andy 2006,
Did you get a chance to have a look at the Hesperia Playa el Agua when you were there last year? We head off on the 28th Sept. We are touring on the mainland for our first week and then we have a week on Margarita in the Hesperia. We picked it because the brochure said that it's near local restaurants and bars. We thought this would be handy just in case we don't like the AI. Hope you enjoy it and maybe when you get back you'll let me know what you thought of the hotel.

Thanks Kazzalisa, that's good to know. We're not into golf but never mind as long as the hotel is OK. We love food and I was a bit worried about going AI

we went to Margarita in May 2006 and enjoyed our stay at Costa Caribe but had a nightmare time at the airport once we were through in departures
The police arrived and demanded that they be allowed to search cases so about 100 of us were called and we had to stand in a queue with no seats for an hour. The flight was boarded but we were stuck. We (and everyone else) complained to anyone and everyone but they wouldn't budge,
because of the South America drugs connection they are very hot on searching bags but don't have resources to deal with it.
Our flight was delayed and we had to stand in the queue for 90 minutes before our cases were briefly searched and it really ended or holiday on a sour note. I have no problem with being searched but if they want to encourage and welcome tourists then they need to address this treatment

Last year everyone got a touch down by local police on arrival due to a flight from Amsterdam 3 weeks earlier containing 15kg of a class A drug!!
Didn't get to see it but spoke to people on the flight home and they said it was fantastic!!

There doesn't seem to be a specific forum for linking videos of locations/excursions to this forum.
I went to Margarita last November and went on a 1 day excursion to fly over the Angel falls and land in the Canaima national Park. We went across Laguna de canaima in a powered canoe past some huge waterfalls. The more able bodied ones walked to El sapo waterfall and walked behind it and back again. I did a 10 minute video of this day out. If you go to Margarita, you must do this, or better still the 2 day excursion.

Broadband users can watch it here :-
