Since I posted that I have discovered that there are 2 walks you can do, the easy walk or the hard walk. Apparently we did the hard walk, which involved climbing up the side of El Sapo falls. We've been told that other people had the choice about what walk they did.

There was a 5 - 10 minute walk involved when we did the Delta part of the trip but I think it varies depending who your guide is and what family you visit.

A couple we met this time around did this trip but their canoe broke down so they didn't visit the family and spent most of hte time on the canoe.

I'm sure when you arrive explain to the rep what your questions are and he can find out the answers for you.

If anyone wants to see my latest photo's, please PM me.

We travelled between 15th - 30th September 2005 and stayed at the Laguna Mar. the pictures include Los Roques, Seallion Swimming and the sunset cruise.

Thanks staceylc for your prompt reply. The problem with waiting till we arrive is that if we go on the trip we need malaria tablets, otherwise we don't. We have private precriptions for malarone which will cost my wife and I about £50. Obviously we need to know before we leave the UK whether any version of the trip is 'doable' or not, so we know whether to spend the money.

Thanks, Frank

Everyone I know of that has ever done that trip hasn't taken Malaria tablets. We didn't either.

hi Steve

It's hot alright but not as humid as other places I have been. We went to Mexico last year and looking at the photo's made me realise how much more humid it was compared to Margarita.

it depends what sort of humidity you're used to, I suppose.

Hi Mrfrostie,
On the 28th Sept we're doing the Lost World Adventure Tour and a week on Margarita, staying in The Hesperia Playa El Agua. I'll write a quick report when we get back. I know it's a different season from Jan but it'll hopefully give you some idea of resorts/hotels etc. Kiltman, another HT user told me to check out this website http://www.margaritaislandguide.com It has lots of info regarding the island. Read your posts on the Goan forum. We love Goa so I'll be interested to see if we like Margarita as much.

We went to MI from 22 June to 6 July this year. We stayed at Laguna Mar and it was fantastic. I was a bit dubious before going as i'm not a lover of big hotels but my fears were unfounded. We booked a junior suite but to be honest i don't think we'd bother WHEN we go againbecause we didn't really spend enough time in the lounge part of the room to warrant it.

We spent time around the Waterfall pool with the swim up bar (past the olympic size laned pool!). We would get there any time between 9 and 11am and there was always plenty of sun loungers available until the last few days (italian schools broken up for hols?) and then it was a bit more crowded.

Mealtimes were no problem - Topaz, where you go for breakfast always had plenty of choice and you couldn't fail to find something. Ok, somethings weren't to our taste, such as shredded fish for breakfast, but there was cereals, fruit, breads, cold meats, waffles, bacon and eggs. Lunchtimes were normally spent at Salvatores where, again, there was a great choice, burgers, pizzas, chicken in a basket, chips, salad. Then for dinner we went back to the Topaz where they had a different theme each evening but with enough choice that no-one was going to go hungry. Each person has one meal at the italian and one meal at the mexican per week. You can only book for each the day before with the customer services in the lobby. We had one meal at the Italian which was beautiful. Its a bit more formal and there is a sign stating no shorts, but of course you get the ones who just ignore it and come in looking like they've not changed from the pool. We were going to book for our last night but didn't go to book till that morning and it was booked up and we couldn't get in so make sure you see the staff on the morning before the day you want to go. We had two meals at the mexican - Brill. Take a camera to get you piccy taken with the sombrero's on - and try the mexican coffee - an aquired taste but i thought it was good! Service was fantastic and food was beautiful. Its a more relaxed atmosphere than the italian and i'd greatly recommend it. There is also the beach grill bar which we went to once - chicken, steak, sausages, salad, fish - lovely.

We did a couple of trips booked with Milton the First Choice rep who was great. The Jeep Tour - takes you all around the island stopping at different places where you can get out, have a look round and get a drink. Really worthwhile for the info and pics. Angel Falls (overnight) - This made our holiday! i took a change of clothes for the evening of the 1st day and a set for the 2nd day. Shoes-wise, you need sandals with grip or trainers for walking thru the falls. I wore those waterproof canoe shoes (with the holes in the bottom that let the water out) they were great. I chose to wear vest top and shorts in the falls (just cos i don't like walking round in a bikini) but if i was to do it again i'd not wear them. The night accomodation is basic - 2 beds, small bathroom with a loo, sink and shower. Don't expect hot water - its from the river and is cool - but just what you want. The food at the camp is ok but not really to my taste. I'd suggest taking some snacks with you. Insect repellant and suncream is a must particularly when you've been thru the falls and are walking back to the lunch area - you must be like basted meat for those mossies - a couple of us on our trip just got eaten! And the shopping trip - erm... don't think i'd do it again. Went to Porlamar and the flea market (once you've seen one stall in the clothes part, you've seen them all!!) then to the mall (Sambal?)

So, our feelings overall... yes we'll go back to MI and yes we'll go to Laguna Mar.

Hope that gives some help if you are trying to decide where to go on your hols.

Hi berniec, enjoyed your report. We're heading to Venezuela/Margarita at the end of Sept. What was the name of the camp you stayed at? The Laguna Mar sounds good. We picked the Hotel Hesperia Playa El Agua on Margarita. Hope it's ok too. Irishcolleen, glad to hear you thought the Firstchoice flight was alright for leg room. I'm small but my hubby's a big guy. What way are the seats configured on the plane? Is it 2-4-2? I know what you mean about trying different places each time. I like to do that as well but I do keep returning to Goa.

Hi Gail

You'll find loads of FCA info HERE, and if you post HERE I expect Dazbo will be able to tell you exactly which aircraft you'll be on
If anyone would like to post a review for the Hesperia Playa El Agua, please do so HERE.

Thanks.

Hi Gail

Just to clarify, the seats on FC long haul flights are configured 2-3-2 NOT 2-4-2 this gives extra width as well as leg room.

We flew with them to Margarita and it was without doubt the best charter flight I have been on.
