Anyone confirm teh exchange rate applied to credit/ debit cards as compared with rate on cash exchange
Reply
Great, thanks.

The exchange rate is always better than a cash transaction. We opened a Nationwide BS account and use that card when abroad. They don't charge you a fee for making foreign withdrawals, which most other banks do.

Yeah I use their credit card ( a fee fees on cash... bit still no 2.75% loading) ... used to get reward points but no dropped that ... might go from the debit card but whether tehy will be keen just for my holidays..??

Always had a good rate on the card.. although thats been for a "poenly exchanged" currecncy.. wondered if a soft one like TD was different

Hi all.

First time to Tunisia (Hammamet).

I'm with the Abbey National and I only have a Visa Electron.

Is Visa Electron acceptable in their ATM machines??

I've used my card all over Europe and USA..but worried about Tunisia.

P.s. England Til I Die... 8)

I think your card will be ok if its cirrus and im pretty sure most bank cards are...i found out last night that the 'link' ATM network is uk based only, but cirrus is definately accepted worldwide, there are plenty of ATMs in Tunisia that accept cirrus cards.

Right i've read loads of posts but i cant seem to see an answer for this, will my Bank of scotland visa electron card work in the Atm's(cash points)

no it won't. they only take visa or mastercard, not electron as its not europe. we took all our cash in sterling and put it in our safety deposit box.
the hotel changed it for us as it is a fixed rate currency the same rate is used wherever you change it. also the hotel gives you a receipt which you need to be able to change it back at the airport.
you dont need a lot of money though as its really cheap for everything out there depending on what you do on your holiday. :D
any more help please feel free to ask

I'm planning on taking sterling T/C. Do you know if they charge you for changing them rather than using Sterling Cash ?
Thanks.

No,.
Every exchange of money is at the same rate,we were there 4wks ago and changed both TC and sterling and got the same exchange rate for both with no charges.

was just advised by the travel agent, cannot take dinar into tunisia.
apparently you have to change your money when you arrive?

can you change it at the hotel or at the airport?
Reply
Hi,

We took sterling travellers cheques and they were all in £20.00, it was easy enough to change them into Dinars at the hotel and make sure you use your Dinars before you leave Tunisia.

Have a great time

Sorry to be a nuisance as I'm sure someone has already posted on this, but has anyone any idea of what time the bureau de change at Monastir Airport closes at night? I have a late arrival on 1st October and I'll need some cash for a taxi. Failing that, can anyone tell me where the ATM is at the airport? In all the years I've been going there I've never needed to use that one.

I've just given myself a good talking to for being lazy and checked back on another part of this forum. Lucy Locket says the ATM's are by the baggage carousel and someone else says that the Bureau de Change will be open so it seems I'm sorted. :)
